The Innkeeper - Chapter 2150 As fate would have it

Chapter 2150 As fate would have it
Lex was well aware of everything that was happening inside the Inn. From the mass sacrifice someone was attempting to orchestrate, to the countless guests trying to use this opportunity when everyone was distracted to loot, to the silent kidnapping attempts. He was aware of them all.
The reason he was not personally acting to stop any of them just yet was because he was giving the security team a chance to fix all the issues. He was the last resort, and he would only make a move when things went entirely out of hand.
This wasn’t because he was lazy, but because the Midnight Inn and its staff needed to be competent enough to handle such issues. Although the over a trillion guests inside the Inn would leave once the wedding, and thus the free services, would end, this would not be the last time they had so many guests. Nor would it be the last time things became so chaotic.
Only by knowing the exact limits of what the Inn could handle would they be able to work on improving. Previously, Lex never had the luxury of just sitting around and waiting for his workers to mess up, as he was not strong enough to take a risk. He had to act before someone got hurt.
Now, though, he had absolute confidence. No matter who the enemy was, as long as they weren’t Dao Lords or Demi-Dao Lords, Lex knew he could handle them. Thus, even if he didn’t react immediately, he knew he could act at the absolute last minute if he needed to, and everything would be fine.
It was while watching Pierre climb through the multi-tiered cake mansion, searching for the ghost of the ring bearer who stole the ring Brenda was supposed to give him, that Lex noticed something unusual. It wasn’t that Brenda was wearing multiple spatial items – no, he’d seen her put her red packets in those. No, what he noticed was Z having an oddly serious conversation while the Inn was a mess.
If he didn’t act, it was one thing. He had his reasons. But if even Z was not acting, then it could only mean that there was an even greater issue that required his attention. Lex pondered for a moment, but then decided to check up on things anyway.
“Is everything alright?” Lex asked, appearing behind Z and the worker called Paul, Lex and Paul had technically never met, nor had Paul ever personally met the Innkeeper. That didn’t mean that Lex wasn’t aware of him.
Paul was a worker a few generations older than Pierre and Brenda, with a cultivation at the Foundation level. He typically worked in the glass, flying city that could usually be seen in the sky from time to time.
All in all, he was a normal Inn worker and had never caused any problems. Yet now, when Lex looked at him, it was obvious that Paul was extremely upset, and seemed as if he hadn’t slept in months!
Paul did not answer, for he had only heard of Lex, and didn’t personally know him. Z, on the other hand, did not hesitate to elaborate. While it was technically true that the Inn was in a lock down, and that guests could not come and go, Z had a feeling that if Lex really wanted to, he could find a way around that restriction. It came with the territory of being super strong but pretending to be weak.
“There’s a situation, and I’m not sure how to tackle this kind of issue,” Z explained. “To be clear, it’s not that the Inn has an issue, but Paul has a personal issue, and a pretty serious one.”
Lex raised an eyebrow, and looked towards Paul.
“What’s the matter? Tell me, maybe I can help,” said Lex in a reassuring tone.
Despite his Foundation level cultivation, Paul was at the end of his rope, and could only rely on others’ help now.
“It’s the war. There was a guest who used to come to the Inn before the Inn shut down. She worked as a Henali soldier, and was directly responsible for fighting in the ongoing war, protecting the realm. Between missions, she used to come to the Inn, and many times we’d end up bumping into each other… to the point where we started developing feelings for each other.
“It was all… very new for me, and I wasn’t sure how to react, or how I’m even supposed to behave in such a situation. We were still just exploring things, but then suddenly the Midnight Inn was sealed, and she was unable to return. I am stuck in here, and she is stuck out there, now no doubt fighting even more dangerous battles than before, unable to come to the Inn as a refuge.
“I did my best to not think about her, to focus on my tasks but… but I can’t help it. I’m extremely worried about her. This war is too big, and she is too insignificant in the face of it. If she died, no one would even know. The thought of her dying… it… it rips my heart into pieces. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I’m too worried about her.
“I know it’s not the place of the Midnight Inn to interfere in these types of situations, which is why I was asking Z if there is some way I can be sent outside. I’ll… I’ll use up my holidays to look for her and…”
Lex placed a hand on Paul’s shoulder, and stopped him.
“Enough. That’s enough,” he said, his voice deep and heavy. “Since when did the Midnight Inn need to give explanations to anyone about what we do and how we behave? If you want to go save your girl, then there’s no need to think so much about it. We’ll go save her, restriction or no restriction.”
Lex was not planning on returning to the Origin realm until the wedding was over, at the very least, but it seemed like fate had other plans for him. The forces of the universe had done their best to stop the reach of the Midnight Inn, and while that worked for most places, nothing could stop Lex from returning to the Origin realm if he wanted to – not anymore.
“Z, I’ll leave things here to you. In case things get out of hand, use this,” said Lex, handing Z a Go bead.
That was not his Karmic bead, but a replica of sorts he had made using karmic
laws to hold a portion of his strength. As for how big that portion was… it would be big enough no matter what the issue was.
