The Innkeeper - Chapter 2157 What do you talk to girls about?

Chapter 2157 What do you talk to girls about?
Yamato looked at Lex, then at Paul, and then back at Lex. There was much left unsaid, but his gaze made his thoughts quite apparent. Was he supposed to believe that Mei was dating this mortal? If the Midnight Inn wanted an excuse to take her, they could at least put in some effort to make it believable.
The reason Yamato thought like this was because of his limited exposure. At each level, cultivators would adopt a different perspective based on the knowledge that was available to them. As a Celestial Immortal, residing inside the Origin realm, he placed tremendous value upon the cultivation technique Mei used, for if she could control the World Tree, there were tremendous benefits she could gain.
In fact, one of the reasons that the Henali had provided Mei with so much protection was due to this very ability. So it was easily understandable that the Midnight Inn would covet such a person as well.
However, if Yamato were a Dao Lord, or if he had close interactions with Dao Lords, he would know that the current reputation of the Midnight Inn among the upper echelon of the universe was that of unquestionable power.
No one wanted to provoke a needless enemy when he occupied no resources anyone wanted, nor did he plan on interfering in any matters unrelated to his Inn.
This was the irony of life. The top most powerful beings in the universe were wary of provoking the Inn, yet so many of those weaker than them were plotting against the Inn for various reasons. Of course, in the eyes of Dao Lords, the plots of such weak forces were negligible, and did not deserve any attention at all.
“If reaching the Evergreen Lancers is what you need, I can help you halfway. The Tsu galaxy is the galaxy closest to the Origin realm core galaxy, where the Henali have established themselves. There are teleportation formations I can use to send you there.
“But to reach the Evergreen Lancers once you’re inside the Tsu Galaxy is something you’ll have to do on your own. The fighting is the fiercest there, and from the reports I’ve heard, more than one Dao Lords have opened up a Mirage there as well.”
A Mirage was a place born from the thoughts of a Dao Lord within which living beings could exist. During the battle against Sekhmet, Lex had been transported to a Mirage as well. Back then, it had been opened so that all the weaker beings wouldn’t die due to the clash of Dao Lords.
“That’s good enough. I’ll handle the rest on my own,” said Lex. “I appreciate the help. If there’s something I can do for you, don’t hesitate to ask.”
The old geezer chuckled upon hearing that.
“You’re my son’s friend. I don’t need a special reason to help you. But we better get moving fast. I’ll use the excuse of sending an update report to teleport over, and I’ll bring you along through my realm. Hold on tight.”
Without wasting any more time, the old geezer’s real body left the Minor realm, and started to head towards the teleportation formation. The Midnight Inn has harbored his son for many years, so if there was a chance that it could save Mei, he would not hesitate to take it.
After all, he had grossly understated how much danger Mei was in. In fact, almost everyone expected Mei to die or get captured soon, Mei included. The Henali were too preoccupied to help her out, so this would be a critical period for her.
While Yamato handled the matter of teleporting them over, Lex looked at Paul, unable to hold back his curiosity.
“You know, if I’m prying you don’t have to answer, but I’m curious. What did you guys even talk about? How did you guys become a thing?”
Paul was not surprised by the question. Honestly, he thought he knew Mei well, but he had no idea she was nearly this impressive, or this important.
“To be honest, I didn’t know this side of her,” admitted Paul. “She told me she was a soldier, working for the Henali, and that’s as far as we talked about her work. Instead, we talked about other, random things. Small things. Unimportant things. But we just… I don’t know, we just clicked. Whenever we met, we never ran out of things to talk about.
“She would be incredibly fascinated by the work and experiences I have at the Inn, while I was always intrigued by the rich history and culture of the elves that she shared. I guess, at some point, just endlessly talking to each other about the mundane things in life, we started to develop feelings for each other.”
Lex blinked. He opened his mouth to say something, but then shut it. Romance wasn’t really his department, so who was he to say whether that sounded off. But he hadn’t dropped his guard.
If Mei had just been fooling Paul, making use of his emotions or trying to manipulate him to get to the Inn, then she would learn the consequences of that. However, if their feelings were genuine, then there was no harm in bringing her to the Inn.
Yes, it would provoke the High Elves. But backing off in this situation would be more suspicious than simply taking her. After all, the Innkeeper was not some
pushover.
“Why? What do you generally talk about when you like a girl?” Paul asked curiously, feeling like he probably had much to learn from the legendary Lex. The question was like a punch to the gut that even his formidable defenses couldn’t protect him from.
“Brace yourself, we’re about to undergo long range teleportation, Lex said, dodging the question.
Paul didn’t suspect a thing, because only a couple of minutes later, Yamato activated the teleportation formation, traveling all the way to the Tsu galaxy. Meanwhile, in the Suera Galaxy, Giselle, Alexander and the others were fighting for their lives in a war that far surpassed their understanding.
