The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1598 1598: Stings a Little

Across varying variables, paths that would lead to his ruin by confronting the Voidal Monarch only for the sake of Lorayah Village—and Kaelthar inside, it ended up well. Rex succeeded, strong-arming the threat away.
But it could’ve ended very badly.
Rex recognized that.
He could’ve died there and then, causing him to lose all of his powers and also endangering the others.
Perhaps it was because of his argument with Princess Davina, or maybe the innocent look Kaelthar was wearing right now, but he was angry. His breath turned rapid—and hot as he looked directly into Kaelthar’s eyes.
“I’m done playing games now.”
“Wha-What do you mean?”
“I’m saying you’re going to help me regardless of your situation.”
“No… No way! I’m not going to do that!”
Pah!
A crisp sound echoed across the chamber.
Rex slapped Kaelthar’s face hard, leaving one side of his face reddening gradually.
He didn’t pull back his strength either.
Kaelthar’s cheek turned puffy in a couple of seconds because of how hard the slap was.
“Do you even remember what I asked? You probably already forgot.”
“Yes, I forgot, but even if I remember, I would still not help you! Just look at yourself! You looked like a bad guy who wanted to do bad things! Someone who forced their way into Lorayah Village without Duke Lorcan’s permission, hurting the people without remorse, and then cancelling the Spirit Genesis, which was my reward after a painstaking negotiation, is surely a bad person!”
If Kaelthar put it like that, Rex indeed looked like a bad person.
So, he didn’t argue.
But then again, he wasn’t here to be a good or bad person either.
He came here to get things done, and Kaelthar has the resources to do what he wants.
Rex glanced over his shoulder and saw Princess Davina still standing there.
“Leave.”
“I’m not going anywhere.
“This is beneath your status. You don’t want rumors circulating that you’re someone who condoned the act of torture, now, would you? That’ll ruin your perfect, respected reputation. Head back first. I’ll find my own way back.”
Kaelthar’s face paled a little when he heard the word ‘torture’.
He was someone respected in the Sky City; nobody dared to do this to him.
“Are you insane? Didn’t I tell you who I am? If you even leave a scratch on me, you’ll be hunted down! Give up and leave me alone! I’m not helping you, and you’re not going to force me to help you. Know the limit, dammit!”
Rex ignored Kaelthar altogether.
He considered the words that came out of Kaelthar’s mouth as nothing more than noise.
Noise that he could ignore completely while he focused on his stubborn fiancée.
Princess Davina didn’t react to Rex’s provocation.
She could tell that he was extremely angry, but still tried to keep himself together.
It was the reason why he was talking to her like this.
“Nothing wrong with accompanying my fiancé. Besides, I want to see the real you.”
“Real me…?” Rex chuckled, finding her choice of words funny. “You don’t want to know the real me.”
Pah!
Another slap cracked across Kaelthar’s face, forcing him to clutch one cheek with a trembling hand.
Instinctively, he wanted to pull away, but he could not—Rex’s grip on his shoulder held him firmly in place. Now, his face swelled further, and even his eyes were starting to glaze over from the sharp pain of the slap.
Rex focused back on Kaelthar again, pulling him by his collar.
“Did you feel the ground shaking earlier? Did you feel an overwhelming aura earlier?” He asked with a sharp tone, then pointed upward. “That’s because a Voidal Monarch is coming your way, coming the village’s way. While you’re busy dreaming, the village was almost destroyed, killing you alongside it. Who do you think stops that?”
Kaelthar looked at Rex, pupils dilated in shock and confusion.
Despite dreaming earlier, he did feel the ground trembling and a sudden difficulty in breathing.
But he didn’t realize that it was because a Voidal Monarch was approaching the village.
It was only now that he realized he had almost died.
Rex pulled on his collar harder, shaking Kaelthar to focus on him.
“Who do you think stops the Voidal Monarch? ME!” He shouted, veins bulging in his neck. Stabbing his own finger at his chest repeatedly, emphasizing the point he was making. “ME! I saved your life. I could have abandoned you, but I didn’t. Do you understand?!”
Hearing this, Kaelthar swallowed hard.
He wanted to believe that Rex was lying since it was too hard to believe.
Rex must’ve said this to manipulate him and make him do the request.
But Rex didn’t seem to be lying.
Even Princess Davina, standing a couple of steps away behind him, didn’t deny his claim.
She wore a neutral expression as if Rex was simply stating the facts.
From her demeanor alone, Kaelthar could really believe that this was the truth.
Seems like the Voidal Monarch did come.
It was going to run through Lorayah Village and flatten it entirely.
And Rex was the one who stopped it, which means, regardless of his intentions, he saved Kaelthar’s life.
A Voidal Monarch passing through couldn’t be faked either.
Kaelthar would’ve died if Rex had truly left, which was highly probable since Kaelthar had already denied helping Rex. But even so, he stayed behind. He stood his ground against the Voidal Monarch—despite how inconceivable that sound, and now returned to claim what he was owed.
Now Kaelthar understood why Rex was so angry.
For him to refuse to help after what Rex did would be unreasonable and could foster bad blood.
One that Kaelthar most certainly didn’t want, especially knowing Rex was very capable.
“I don’t know what happened to you—but don’t forget, this is not the Sky City. You chose to come down here into the mud.” Rex added fiercely, venting out his anger on Kaelthaar. “No matter how much you try, you will get dirty, and the Sky City can’t blame anyone but you. Do you understand?”
Kaelthar stared into Rex’s glowing eyes and knew that this was a serious situation.
If he got hurt while he was here, the Sky City wouldn’t be able to point at anyone other than himself.
Rex understood the situation well.
It was he who didn’t fully understand the kind of situation he was in.
‘But still, I can’t help him, or he’ll drag me into his mess. All I want is a peaceful life of mediocrity.’
Noticing his hesitation, Rex raised his hand, about to slap him again.
Before he could do it, Princess Davina intervened.
“What is your name?”
“K-Kaelthar…”
“Kaelthar… I’m Duke Lorcan’s second daughter, Princess Davina. I understand how this must appear and that you feel threatened. Truly, I do. But I ask that you hear him out first. If his request is not beyond reason, I implore you to cooperate. In return, I shall personally petition the duke to grant you a better and safer place to live.”
For a second there, Kaelthar looked at Princess Davina in surprise.
He hadn’t realized that it was her—the Graceful Starfall.
Recognizing someone was indeed something that made him feel more at ease, and since Princess Davina had already stretched a hand, it would be rude for Kaelthar not ti do the same. He eventually nodded and turned to Rex, “What do you need?”
Rex smiled and exhaled in disbelief.
Even when he put his life on the line, Kaelthar was still swayed more by Princess Davina.
Her status is simply too incredible.
But then again, he didn’t have time to complain as long as things progressed smoothly.
“Help me locate Devoratar Tridan. I only need to know where he is—nothing more.”
Rex is still going to butter up Duke Lorcan and have him lend his seal.
However, knowing that Sky City was filled with people entrusted with the vital task of safeguarding the world by combating the Black Rift spectacles, Rex also knew they would be very proud, arrogant even, which would make it difficult to get any of them to reveal Devo’s whereabouts.
Refusal would be their first move if Rex came demanding to see Devo.
Next would be denial if Rex shared that Devo is in trouble.
Even if those people knew that Devo was indeed in trouble, it wouldn’t matter.
In front of Rex, they would certainly choose to hide Devo instead of admitting that they were wrong.
So, Rex needed to know exactly where Devo was.
Knowing where he was might help him narrow down the perpetrator and avoid that person.
“Fine. I can help you with that.”
Kaelthar finally agreed, finding that it wasn’t an unreasonable request in exchange for saving him.
Rather, it was quite a cheap request for what Rex had done.
But no chance he’s going to admit that out loud.
Rex felt a wave of enormous relief washing down his body.
“How are you going to do that?”
“I still have my loyal servant. I can ask him to find this Devoratar Tridan for you.”
“Good… Make sure to get the information by tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? That’s too quick.”
“Considering that I saved your life, you should be thankful this is all I asked. Tomorrow.”
Rex reached out his hand and branded a rune onto Kaelthar’s hand.
It was a cheap locator rune that he bought from the System.
As long as that rune was active, Rex would always know exactly where Kaelthar was.
“Do you need to do this?”
Kaelthar asked helplessly.
He knew exactly what this rune was for, even without asking Rex.
“You don’t trust me, right?” Rex asked, his face straight. “That goes both ways. I also don’t trust you.”
Once he said that, he turned around, intending to leap out of the dark chamber.
But he stopped when his eyes met Princess Davina’s.
“What? Expecting a thank you from me?” Rex sneered. “You won’t get it from me.”
Rex leaped out of the dark chamber without even waiting for Princess Davina to answer.
He headed back upstairs in search of Abras.
Since Kaelthar had one day to fulfil his request, he decided to stay in this village until then.
…
“Here’s the key to your room. It’s the best room we have, though it’s probably not much in your eyes.”
A humble middle-aged woman handed Princess Davina a key.
Currently, with Kaelthar rushing to act immediately, Rex and Princess Davina chose to remain in the village until his return. Naturally, Rex argued she should head back or go somewhere else, but she shut that down easily.
Duke Lorcan has eyes everywhere.
He might not know about them going to Lorayah Village—or Rex fending off the Voidal Monarch, but he most certainly knew the rough area they were in. If Princess Davina leaves with Esmeravon without Rex, he will know, and that’d lead to a lot of trouble.
So, the two of them have to stick together.
After all, Duke Lorcan only allowed them to leave to strengthen their bond, nothing else.
Looking at the key, Princess Davina paused.
‘Being in the same room is too soon for us. I’m not planning to bear his child from the start. Let’s have two ro-‘
Before Princess Davina could finish her thoughts, Rex had already intervened from behind.
“Give us separate rooms. We’re still only engaged. It’s too soon for us.”
“Ah… I apologize. Silly me. Youngsters these days already abandon the tradition of waiting until marriage, but it seems like both of you are the exceptions, good role models.”
Excusing herself with a polite bow, the middle-aged woman took another key and handed it to Rex.
It’s the key to a room adjacent to Princess Davina’s room.
Not even waiting a second, Rex nodded and headed to the corridor, searching for his own room.
Princess Davina, on the other hand, was stunned.
She looked at Rex’s back going further away, and then to her key, feeling conflicted inside.
On one hand, it was reassuring that Rex had the decency to refuse, but on the other… she couldn’t help feeling slightly offended by how swiftly he dismissed the idea of sharing a room. ‘What am I thinking? He’s still upset over what I did earlier—his reaction is only natural. Still… it stings a little.’
