The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1646: Doubting Her Words

Chapter 1646: Doubting Her Words
It was a time-pressing matter.
Rex’s anger couldn’t reach the level where he could take down the Faceless Reaper with ease, especially now that it had shown its cards, and there were also too many eyes around for him to transform. His hands are tied, so he had no other choice.
Only the Invincible Apparition can help me in this moment.
Disagreeing with its requests might change the Invincible Apparition’s mind, and that’d be bad.
I really don’t want to ask for its help.
Rex was still bitter about what the Invincible Apparition did to him.
Just the simple fact that it immediately resorted to kicking him further down when his mind was reeling from the breakdown was enough to tell that the Invincible Apparition is not on his side. Kei Xun said to become a Blank, I needed to become one with the Invincible Apparition. Once I achieved that, I would be able to be in the Invincible Apparition state at will.
His brows dropped into a frown as he thought of something troublesome.
Something that he couldn’t allow to happen.
But can it be the other way around? Can the Invincible Apparition be the one in control?
He had always known the truth—that the Invincible Apparition longed to take control, to take over and become ’Rex’, stealing his very identity. It had no body of its own, no place in the world beyond what seemed to be the prison of his mind.
For it had been born from him and was bound to him alone.
Now, with this realization, he knew that it was entirely possible to become a Blank.
Get used to your Invincible Apparition taking control of your body… That’s what Kei Xun said.
Rex recounted the last meeting they had.
She explained to him the method to achieve the Disconnect and become a Blank, and to do that, he’d need to get used to becoming the passenger, she said. Because when the time comes, he’ll need to absorb the Invincible Apparition at its weakest.
And its weakest was when it was taking control of his body.
No matter how I see it, this seemed like a trap.
Kei Xun came out of nowhere and proposed a deal to let bygone be bygone.
It was surely because—she somehow was pressured by the other Scions for a mistake that Rex was not aware of, which put her in a position where she couldn’t have another enemy scheming behind her. And at the time, Rex could tell that she was telling the truth.
She seemed serious, and the words that came out of her mouth flowed smoothly.
Every gesture, every flicker in her expression carried the weight of truth. If she was lying—then she deserved an award for a performance beyond mortal skill, a super actress. But Rex doubted it—his gut twisted with certainty, whispering that she was telling the truth.
And he trusted his gut feeling.
But at this moment, his conviction began to waver.
Getting used to being the passenger sounded like she wanted me to give up control.
At this moment, the realm of invincibility, or what Kei Xun called the Highseat of Invincibility, is not something that Rex knew about. All he could grasp was the likelihood of its existence since the System wanted him to reach that apex, and the Scions exist, too.
It was an uncharted territory.
One mistake could spell his doom, literally.
Having the Invincible Apparition take over his body permanently would be an imminent doom.
Just the thought of it made him shiver.
But there was no other choice.
Rex had to go forward, become stronger, so that he could protect what was important to him.
I am the enemy of the Lunirich Gods. Most of them wanted to see me dead, especially the Blood Moon and the Yule Moon. Kei Xun asked me how many Gods I had slain the first time we met, and that alone implied the other Scions had killed Gods. Perhaps, even Kei Xun herself had done the same.
Clearly, Rex had to participate in this path.
Killing Gods, he couldn’t even fathom how to do it or where to start.
But the Scions talked about it as if it were nothing.
So naturally, this path was a surefire way to defeat the Lunirch Gods.
And the information he got from Kei Xun was priceless, which was worth the risk he was taking.
No pain—no gain.
System, can you at least verify this? Should I get used to being the passenger or the other way around?
<Notice: the user can’t cheat the way to reach absolute invincibility.>
Tch.
Rex could only sigh as he needed to put more thought into it.
He doesn’t need to be hasty, but it would be preferable for him to decide soon.
Deep within his core, something stirred—vast, overwhelming, straining to break free. Something that was outright incredible was rising, and it was about to emerge. He didn’t know what it was, only that it carried an almost unbearable weight of power.
But a certainty pressed on him now: it was tied to the Invincible Apparition.
After all, Kei Xun did imply that the moment would come on its own.
And Rex needed to be ready.
Should I trust her words…? Or not?
Meanwhile, as Rex was contemplating inside, the Invincible Apparition was on the move.
Promising the devouring of monsters, the bad people, and the wounded, it was excited and full of vigor.
Rex has to make a quick decision, and he decides to allow the Invincible Apparition to let loose.
He remembered what Amanir said to him, that this wasn’t his real home—this realm was nothing more than a stop for him. Regardless of the relationships he made in this realm, he has to remember that this wasn’t his home.
No obligations were tied to him in this realm.
Its people were not his responsibility—thus, he granted the Invincible Apparition permission.
Crack!
Despite retaining the form of a human, the Invincible Apparition’s moves were anything but.
He scaled the wall rapidly, fingers gouging into the concrete with every pull—his ascent was more like a beast crawling than a man climbing. Crimson eyes fixed on the summit, fangs bared in a grin as a low chuckle rumbled in his throat.
Last time he was out, fighting against the Singing Lady, it felt incredibly good.
Since this was the second time, the sensation should be less than the first time.
But he was wrong.
As he climbed the wall, he reveled in the miracle of flesh.
Every breath was a revelation—the air cool and sharp as it coursed through his lungs, the brush of wind against his skin as vivid as anything the mind could give, and beneath it all, the steady thrum of a heart resounded like war drums, surging hot blood through his veins, filling him with a strength and rhythm that no prison of thought could ever grant.
Scents assaulted him, intoxicating and maddening in their richness.
He could smell the musk of stone, the iron tang of blood, even the faint sweetness of life itself carried on the breeze. Even the taste of saliva on his tongue was a marvel, thick with memory of hunger. Every single detail screamed of being alive.
It was what he wanted the most.
But that was for later; now, the mere existence was not enough.
Life demanded proof, and he yearned for the bite of pain, for the thrill of blood drawn and blood spilled, and for the exultation of breaking another’s body and the ache of his own wounds in return. To kill was to affirm his presence.
To hurt was the venting of this unbridled fire of hatred and anger inside him.
And to devour is the meaning of life for a Werewolf.
Only in the dance of violence and agony could he taste the fullness of being alive again.
So, he rushed to salvation.
Growl!
The Invincible Apparition landed on the top of the wall.
All soldiers near him turned to look at him and were confused as to why he was growling like a beast.
But he paid them no heed.
As promised, only the monsters, the bad, and the wounded could he devour.
Devouring these soldiers would be going against that, so he fixated his gaze beyond the wall.
About a mile deep into the bubble, beyond the circling river stretched a majestic city unlike anything he had ever laid eyes upon. It was vast, radiant, and eternal—filled with history and power. The waters of the river glimmered like molten sapphire, which glowed brighter due to the shroud of darkness from the sky.
At the heart of the city stood a single, impossibly tall spire—its alabaster frame piercing the heavens.
From its pinnacle, a searing light blazed.
It was the beacon of life within the Spirit Realm—a powerful Obelisk of Life.
Even from afar, the Invincible Apparition could already see the grandeur and memories the city contained. Roads spiraled outward like veins of silver, weaving between towers and halls of old stone and polished marble, structures that bore their carvings whispering the birth of a hero.
Every street, every column seemed steeped in history.
Just as expected for a city where the Spirit Emperor had been born.
However, what struck the Invincible Apparition the most was not its grandeur—but its peace.
Banners of soft hues fluttered in the breeze, markets hummed faintly in the distance—and gardens of radiant blossoms adorned the edges of courtyards and balconies, spilling colors into the air or to anyone who was seeing it from afar.
But his sensitive hearing could already hear trouble approaching.
Grunts and the sound of clanking metal.
Looking down at the bridge spanning the broad river, he counted them—rows upon rows of armored sentinels, each encased head to toe in burnished steel. Above, there are also soldiers making a formation to guard the skies.
In total, they are at least five hundred strong, and more are coming from the other sides.
Boom!
Boom!
Several explosions thundered, pulling the Invincible Apparition’s attention somewhere else.
About half a mile from the bridge, the Faceless Reaper and its phantoms were approaching fast.
One could tell that, since they turned out to be gliding through the air, their legs aren’t touching the earth from behind their robes; they could bypass the first layer of the city’s defenses—a mechanism that only awakened when directly touched by anything that contained voidal energy.
Now, they were on the second layer, which seemed to be a minefield.
Each blast was as strong as an attack from a Master Immortal Spirit.
It gave the Faceless Reaper and its phantoms some trouble, but one blast wasn’t enough to kill them.
A third blast would leave them badly wounded, yet with the mines now revealed, it was harder for the explosions to catch them off guard. And thus, the surging tide of powerful monsters was closing in on the bridge with alarming speed.
“Let’s move!” Rick came out of nowhere, landing beside him. “We can’t let them reach the bridge!”
Not even waiting for the Invincible Apparition to respond, he leaped down and dashed forward.
His legs were moving like a blur underneath him.
On the other hand, the Invincible Apparition didn’t rush like Rick did.
He scanned the place, seemingly searching for something, until his eyes landed on a building.
It was oddly located outside of the city, and there were guards guarding it.
Naturally, one might think that it was a safehouse or even a treasury, which was placed outside for safety reasons. After all, anyone who tried to go there would be spotted by the guards who were stationed on the city’s wall.
And the space between the wall and this building was a completely open field.
No place for anyone to sneak around.
However, the Invincible Apparition smirked as he realized that it wasn’t a treasury.
Just the reinforced wall around it alone was enough to affirm what it was.
And without wasting a single second, his leg muscles bulged before he made a powerful leap, skipping over the first layer of the defense easily, which made the soldiers around him to sucked in a cold breath as it would need an extreme amount of strength to do something like that.
