The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1679: Aiming the Nobles (1)

Chapter 1679: Aiming the Nobles (1)
<Sudden Quest!>
Description: The Rift Hurricane provided the user with the perfect opportunity to gather the amount of blood needed to complete the first layer of the Blood Moon Echo. Finish the first layer of the user’s Original Echo, the Blood Moon Echo, before the horde goes through the Rift Hurricane!
First Layer Completion: 47%
Reward: Copy Link and 10 million gold.
Penalty: 20% decrease in Sanity Stat.
…
Rex looked at the sudden quest and immediately checked the reward’s description.
Surprisingly, the Copy Link is an item that would outsource the energy needed to create the Original Echo from his existing Blood Moon King Mark. It basically allowed him to skip the rest of the process after creating the core layer and formed the Blood Moon Echo instantly.
As always, the System would absorb the power needed from the Blood Moon directly.
It would be a frustrating surprise for Kaiser, but Rex didn’t care.
He had already offended the Lunirich Gods way before this moment, so there’s no reason to hesitate.
Even though obtaining the Blood Moon Echo is not mandatory now, thanks to Empress Morgana, who was kind enough to grant what he needed to heal Nicvellen, it would be a bad thing to do since the very opportunity presented itself like this.
Once I obtained the Blood Moon Echo, the effect it has on this body would be impeccable.
Most of the powerful Unique Echoes have a mind of their own, a sentient being that would choose its wielder. Not just anyone could assimilate with such forces. From this lone—the Unique Echoes clearly have a compatibility aspect to them, which would determine how much power they could generate.
A hidden bond that decides the power output in the hands of its wielder.
High compatibility would mean stronger output.
It was probably the reason the strong entities within the Spirit Realm mostly have an Original Echo.
Not a Unique Echo.
An Original Echo would always be compatible with its maker.
So, there was no doubt that the Blood Moon Echo would do wonders for him.
Even so, I shouldn’t prioritize it.
Rex looked at April and clenched his fists, feeling a flicker of unease rising to his throat.
A flash of the tragedies, the death of both his biological and foster parents, crossed his mind like a great omen, forcing his brows to crease in a frown. But the snippets of dread were relentless—as following that, the voices of the others asking him for help echoed within the deepest chamber of his mind.
Inside, his heart raced.
He had always failed when it mattered, and that haunted him up to this point.
Wished I could turn back time. Rex thought, looking at April with pure concern. I would’ve stayed away.
Ten years inside the Forsaken Tower was spent mostly with April, and even though Rex had tried to maintain his distance from April in the first few years, it was hard not to get close when there were only the two of them inside the top chamber.
It was bound to end this way, and Rex needed to accept it.
Just be a straightforward man, Haxel. Focus on me. Don’t use underhanded methods to win.
Moments later.
As expected, the Rift Hurricane was incredibly vicious.
Even though it hadn’t been fully formed yet, the air swirled so hard that the Seekers who were keeping the horde—and the legions safe from the Black Rift’s influence through their Seeker Flare were having a hard time keeping the protection up.
All of them needed to use all their might to keep the Seeker Flare standing.
And even so, a few traces of dark smoke managed to slip inside, empowering the horde a little more.
Not to mention, due to the anomaly in the voidal energy level, it also attracted Voidal Monsters from around the area, and even caused them to behave erratically. The Seeker Flare was made entirely of life energy, but it didn’t feel the same as normal life energy.
Instead, the Seeker’s gift altered its property—turning it into a repellent to voidal energy.
It was the reason why the Seeker Flare was able to push away the Black Rift’s influence.
As a side effect, the Voidal Monsters also tend to avoid Seeker Flares as long as they’re compact and tight.
But now, the Rift Hurricane had warped the Voidal Monsters’ behavior, drawing them irresistibly toward the Seeker Flare. Its touch seared their flesh, yet they did not hesitate or feel discouraged—hurling themselves at it again and again, like doomed moths flinging themselves into a flame.
Slash!
Rex swiped the Red Dawn of Kaiser, sending a crimson arc that cuts through anything that stood in its way. Several Voidal Monsters were killed with each swing of his arm—as he protected the Seeker Flare from the outside.
As the knight in charge, it was his duty to keep the formation intact.
He would be the one protecting the Seeker Flare outside while the soldiers focused on the horde.
Slash!
<Voidal Pawns killed: 30,000/ 30,000>
<Chain Sudden Quest 1 of 2 completed!>
<Congratulations on completing the Chain Sudden Quest 1 of 2!>
<20 million gold, 5x Quad Absorption tickets, and 3 Red Nightfall Stars have been rewarded!>
…
<Chain Sudden Quest 2 of 2>
Description: Knight Haxel has been identified as the traitor, and the user has successfully intercepted two of his three attempts by killing the required voidal monsters. Now, Haxel has been cornered. Both Althea and Marquess Darius had set their eyes on him, so he was determined to finish the mission off with his last attempt! Intercept the traitor’s last attempt! Failure to complete this task will result in a significant setback to the user’s progress in the Race Evolution Quest and the Sudden Quest to cure Nivellen!
Save the nobles: 0 / 12
Gather proof that Knight Haxel is the traitor: 0 / 1
Reward: 100 million gold, Lone Alpha skill, and Lone Beta skill.
Penalty: 20 level decrease, paralyzed for one day, and maxed Sanity and Berserk stat.
…
Rex read the second chain sudden quest and frowned uneasily.
I need to save practically all of the nobles? All of them are going to be in danger?
As expected, Haxel was down to his final gambit—this time, he would strike at the nobles. Even felling a few would’ve secured the sabotage’s success, and Empress Morgana’s name would plummet. But Rex hadn’t anticipated that this last attempt carried the potential to wipe out every noble in one devastating blow.
Since the quest asked to save twelve nobles, there should be one exclusion.
Along the way, there are nobles who participated to score points on Empress Morgana and the Emperor.
And now, the total nobles helping the mission were thirteen, including the empress.
Is it Empress Morgana? He would be excluding Empress Morgana.
Considering that Haxel and Empress Morgana have a history, that was the most likely scenario.
Despite his fierce determination to see this mission’s failure, he wouldn’t go as far as killing the empress in the process, or at least, that’s what Rex thinks based on his observations. Perhaps the emperor’s wrath is not something Haxel wanted to deal with.
Either way, this is terrible news.
Just what could he do to threaten the likes of Marquess Darius? What can he possibly do?
Based on the two attempts before, Haxel had mainly relied on his preparations to sabotage the mission.
He used deception and ambush to create chaos before striking.
But that was only possible due to his Unique Echo to boost the voidal monsters’ strength.
Now, he was aiming at the nobles who were vastly stronger than him.
Normal means would not be effective, especially since there were two Marquesses among the nobles.
One was wounded, but the other, Marquess Darius, was still fine and alert.
Rex cleaved through several Voidal Monsters with ease, cutting them down in an instant as notifications flooded his vision. Then, he seized on by the neck, lifting him effortlessly off the ground—with one hand before casting a sharp glance to the far side of the formation, where Haxel was fighting.
With both Marquess Darius and Althea on his back, he couldn’t afford to play passive anymore.
Both were already suspecting him, and that’s bad news.
Based on what Ethan said—if he were reported to the emperor one more time, he would be executed.
So, he was now helping the formation for real, dealing with the Voidal Monsters on the other side.
Exactly like what Rex was doing.
Rex fixed his gaze on Haxel as he retrieved a Blood Pouch from his inventory, the item he bought and used specifically to drain and store the blood of his fallen foes. The moment he opened the lid, a strong suction force erupted, making the surrounding carcasses shudder violently.
One by one, their lifeblood was ripped away, leaving behind nothing but hollow husks of flesh.
Once their blood was drained, Rex stored the drained flesh in his inventory.
He’d eat them all later to get stronger faster.
Nonchalantly, Rex did all of this without looking, as his eyes were fixed on Haxel.
System, scan his body. Scan any item he had on him.
<Affirmative…>
<Necklace of Anger—>
<Berserk Ring of Skartold—>
<Armor of the Crimson Rampage—>
One by one, the System scanned and identified each item that was on Haxel.
However, none of them proved to be anything more than equipment or the items he used in his earlier attempts. Not one item looked suspicious or could be used to trigger some sort of mechanism that could endanger the nobles.
Most of his tricks relied on luring and using Voidal Monsters. Did he do something to the White Mask?
Or maybe to the Voidal Prince?
Considering that the nobles were busy with those two, influencing them would be convenient.
But Rex quickly shook his head, finding it impossible.
No, that can’t be it. Even though there’s something out there that could help him control the White Mask or the Voidal Prince, he couldn’t get close to them. The nobles had already encamped in the place where those two had resided earlier, so there’s no chance Haxel could get close.
Solamen Island is an extremely important place, nicknamed the Vault City.
So naturally, the nobles were quick to surround the White Mask to protect the island.
It would be hard for Haxel to sneak close.
Just then, Rex opened the holographic map again to check whether there was anything powerful nearby.
Since killing a Marquess would need a powerful Voidal Monster, Rex quickly told the System to get rid of the small red dots that represented the Voidal Monsters around, and only focused on Voidal Lord—or stronger.
Fortunately, as soon as he did that, the red dots immediately faded from the holographic map.
No sign of danger nearby.
“Anyway, System, recommend me a few items to reinforce the Seeker Flare,” Rex mumbled, deciding to spend his gold at this moment since he had gotten twenty million earlier. It’s a good idea to prepare for when Haxel’s last attempt hits. “Also, recommend me an item that could help me teleport instantly to the nobles’ side.”
<Affirmative.>
<Searching for the described items from the Shop…>
Rex leaped to the crowded area to take out more monsters while he waited for the search to finish.
On the other hand, Haxel hacked a small herd of Voidal Monsters.
All died with one swing.
Even though the Voidal Monsters became fiercer under the influence of the Rift Hurricane, they weren’t that much stronger. Once he saw the stacked carcasses around him, he straightened his back to breathe before glancing over his shoulder.
He acted like he was focused on the battle, but he noticed Rex’s burning gaze.
It was hard not to feel it as Rex was practically drilling his back.
Smirking, he stared at Rex, who was busy dealing with the Voidal Monsters again.
“He’s being cautious… From what I did, I don’t blame him.” Haxel uttered, shrugging his shoulders, and looked ahead to where the nobles were. “I don’t know the fixed path Morgana settled on, but it does not matter. Nobody can anticipate what will happen next. Be prepared, Rex… You’re going down.”
