The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1683: Let’s Save Some Nobles

Chapter 1683: Let’s Save Some Nobles
Haxel had made preparations to sabotage the mission well.
It was a slow but meticulous process that took him years to complete.
Each attempt was profound and would’ve worked had it not been for Rex, who was an anomaly that he didn’t expect. More importantly, each one was prepared well, so there’s no chance of preventing it all from happening.
All Rex could do was react and adapt to it.
However, it doesn’t mean that Haxel was free from disadvantages.
Having prepared the plan years—before the mission starts meant it’s hard for him to alter the plan with Rex in mind. He could only hope—that the sheer depth of his plan would be enough to overwhelm Rex and successfully sabotage the mission.
It was precisely why, even though Haxel knew what Rex was, he made such a grave blunder.
Or perhaps, his confidence came not from knowledge but from ignorance.
He simply didn’t understand the Immortal Slugs well enough to realize the foolishness of relying on it to go against Rex. But then again, this was all well for Rex as he was going to show exactly what grave mistake Haxel made.
Crack!
Haxel unconsciously stepped back as Rex’s body transformed.
Ink-black furs that blended with the Black Rift like they were a part of it began to cover Rex from head to toe. Canines elongated, glistening with sharpness that could pierce anything. Muscles swelling to the point that Rex, who was slightly taller, now towered over him.
From the appearance of a spirit, Rex transformed into a being that was closer to a monster than a man.
A Werewolf.
Haxel wasn’t the only person who saw this happening, but the soldiers behind him also saw it.
All of them stood stunned as Rex, whom they had always believed to be a normal spirit, shifted before their eyes into a Demon Spirit. It was a transformation none of them had ever imagined possible. Spirits and Demon Spirits were two entirely separate species, divided by an unbreachable line.
And yet, Rex had crossed it as if it were nothing at all.
Even April looked at this transformation in awe—it was her first time seeing it happening this clearly.
’The Great Elder always told me that the Mortal Realm has its own share of monsters. Unlike Spirits, there are countless races down there,’ Her breath was caught in her throat, staring at Rex as if he were a different person. ’So, this is your other form or… is it your true self? Such monstrosity.’
’His transformation didn’t even use life energy.’ She sweated. ’It’s purely a physical boost.’
On the other hand, Rex savored the look on Haxel’s face.
“Let me remind you again,” He grinned, his crimson eyes glowed with malice. “I’m a Werewolf.”
“You—” Haxel’s eyes widened, “You can turn into this form in our realm?!”
“Soldiers!”
Crack!
Boom!
Rex’s voice thundered through the air domineeringly as his aura exploded, cracking the ground beneath his feet from its sheer force. His physical might form into a heat—that sizzled from his body like blood-red vapor.
Then, he looked over his shoulder and swept his gaze across the shocked legions.
“If you want to impress me, this is the moment. Show me your fierce fervor, and I’ll make sure you will be rewarded,” Rex summoned a vial from his inventory, the Overload Potion, and drank it all in gulps. His aura skyrocketed the moment he emptied the vial. “I won’t allow the nobles to die! And you fuckers better be on the same page as me!”
Hearing this, half of the legions’ air changed.
Most of the changes came from the back part of the formation, precisely, it came from Rex’s legion.
Just the sheer mentioning of the rewards made them vigorous like hungry wolves, and their duties as soldiers to protect the empire—were also riled. The nobles are a vital part of the empire, and it was their duty to save them.
“What’s wrong with them?”
“I… I don’t know, but aren’t they a legion that was assembled in a rush? How come they’re united?”
“Never mind that… their aura is rising! How is this possible?”
All of Haxel’s soldiers turned to the other half of the legion in absolute disbelief. That division—meant to house the new knight was supposed to be a patchwork of recruits—from every corner, strangers with no bond or shared discipline.
By all reasoning, they should’ve been the least united force on the field.
Nothing like the other seasoned legions.
But for some reason, these soldiers were responding to Rex’s words like a single beating heart.
Like they had fought through countless battles together.
Even Haxel was shocked at the sight.
Rex bared his teeth in a strained grin, eyes burning with a razor-sharp focus as he locked onto each one of the nobles within the dome through the System. His legs coiled with power; muscles taunt and bulged as the earth beneath his feet cracked as he braced to launch forward.
“CHARGE!”
Boom!
Like a bullet, Rex dashed out of the Seeker Flare and headed straight to the dome.
Behind, the soldiers also roared and followed after him.
All of them followed Rex’s lead despite knowing that there was a big chance of dying from doing so.
“Sir Rex—ugh, why’d you have to call them all at once like that?” Ethan groaned—as the formation to encamp the horde wavered—from the sudden lack of soldiers. He gritted his teeth and barked an order through gritted teeth while pointing at Haxel’s legion, “Thin the line and cover the rear! Keep the damn horde at bay!”
Hearing this, none of the soldiers moved as they were too stunned at the situation.
Most were wondering what inspired Rex’s legion to throw their lives away like that.
“If you don’t move right now, I’ll throw you all into the dome!” Ethan’s voice boomed again.
It snapped them out of their dazes as they quickly hacked the voidal monsters that managed to slip out of the horde before forming the formation again. Even though the formation was weaker now, it’s fine, as their only task right now was to hold long enough for the nobles to be rescued.
Once the formation was formed again, Ethan turned to look ahead.
’Come on, I have to stay behind. I have to stay behind. I have to stay…’ He kept repeating—the same words over and over again, almost like he was hypnotizing himself to stay back and ignore the burning passion that made his hands tremble. ’Fuck it! It’s over if the nobles die anyway!’
Haxel sprinted ahead with the intention of participating in this suicide rescue mission.
Near the front, he stopped when he saw April rooted to her spot.
“Hey, aren’t you coming?”
“Rex… Rex told me to stay behind.”
“It’s going to be fine. Haxel is under the spotlight; he can’t do anything. Just stick close.”
Not even waiting for April to answer, Ethan continued, exiting the Seeker Flare.
On the other hand, April bit her lower lip and clenched her fists.
’Why am I even hesitating?’ She wondered, forcing her feet to follow after Ethan. This was the perfect chance to test her strength, to measure how far she’d come. ’I’ll never reach the heights I seek by staying behind. I need to grow stronger—to carry the legacy forward.’
Swoosh!
Meanwhile, Rex eats the distance between the Seeker Flare and the Dome in an instant.
His legs were moving like a blur underneath him.
Transforming into this form is risky, but I have no other choice. I’ll think of a way to explain after this.
Rex’s eyes narrowed, staring at the edge of the dome ahead.
Even though it was still a few dashes away, the energy from the dome already brushed his skin.
Luring the nobles to the Immortal Slugs is a brilliant way to cause casualties without harming those who were important to him. I know what the Immortal Slugs were capable of thanks to the System, but saving all the nobles is still a gamble, a race against time.
But this wasn’t entirely a bad thing for me.
A smile crept to his lips.
This also made Haxel unable to get himself involved directly.
Since the nobles didn’t die instantly, but rather were trapped in a struggle against the Immortal Slugs, Haxel couldn’t attempt to stop Rex. If he did, that would be the same as announcing himself as the one who was responsible for this.
It would be akin to him confessing that he was the traitor.
Despite realizing that Rex has the capability to save the nobles, he was powerless to do anything.
All he could do was watch and hope that Rex would make a blunder somehow.
System, is there a way to minimize the losses on the soldiers?
<Does the user want to purchase the information for 250,000 gold?>
Buy it and tell me!
<Affirmative.>
<It’s advised for the soldiers to form a group of five to counter the Immortal Slugs’ attack pattern.>
“Form a group of five and then enter!” Rex roared without looking back—commanding the soldiers the strategy provided by the System. “Try saving the nobles near the edge of the dome first, and then work your way to the ones located deeper!”
Swish!
As soon as Rex said that, his voice disappeared as he entered the Desolate Zone.
Rex could feel the air shift instantly—it was like stepping into the lair of a primordial monster. But the inside became clearer than it had seemed from the outside. Now, he could see the White Mask and the serpent at the center, thrashing violently as black goo from the fissure latched to them—the very crack where the Immortal Slugs should’ve dwelled.
It was surprising to see that a Voidal Monarch couldn’t even break free that easily.
Naturally, the black goo’s hands were snapping one by one with each thrash from both of them.
But more came to replace ones that broke, making it hard for anything to break free from its grasp.
<Warning: the Immortal Slugs have sensed the user’s presence!>
From the fissure, a thick obsidian shaft erupted, shooting skyward like a smooth spike driven from the earth itself. It did not stop there—before Rex’s eyes, the black pillar fractured, splitting into countless smaller branches that whipped downward with violent speed, all angling toward him like black spears.
Rex’s instincts roared to life.
He somersaulted backward just as the ground where he had stood a heartbeat ago shattered.
It splintered under the devastating impact.
Once he landed back on the ground, steel boots grinding against soil—he snapped his gaze back to the writhing black appendages. “Huh, for some reason—these things made me recall the Black Field Orko spell. The resemblance was undeniable.”
Considering that the branches lashed out of the ground, this was really similar to the Black Field Orko.
However, unlike tentacles of black lightning, these were solid, monstrous limbs.
Each one pulled the air around them, drinking in power with the relentless pull of a vacuum.
System, scan the nobles and put a timer above them until they are devoured by the Immortal Slugs.
<Affirmative.>
Almost instantly, a timer appeared above the nobles scattered inside the Desolate Zone.
None of them was any higher than five minutes, and the lowest of them all was two minutes.
Each of the nobles was protecting themselves well, but with their life energy being drained rapidly, none would last. It was quite astonishing to find that the Immortal Slugs could kill powerhouses like these nobles, as if they were nothing but ants.
Like the System described, I can’t use my life energy here.
Rex nodded, then a grin crossed his lips.
Physical strength is key, and Law power seemed to still work, too. Good.
Giving no time for Rex to recover, the black branches writhed and shot towards him again.
“Now…” Rex straightened his back and combed the furs on his head back as his acute senses flared, covering every inch of the Desolate Zone as if he had eyes everywhere. His Werewolf bloodline was on full display. “Let’s save some nobles and score some points on the empress in the process, shall we?”
