The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1703: Breakthrough (4)

Chapter 1703: Breakthrough (4)
<Notice: In order to complete the Original Echo—the Blood Moon Echo, the user will be tested.>
<It’s advised for the user to brace yourself.>
No Seekers were around, but the Black Rift’s smoke parted away as if there was an unseen force pushing them away. The fissure, Rex, and the Immortal Slugs were exposed under the brilliant red light coming from the Blood Moon Echo.
The Immortal Slugs writhed violently, twisting upon themselves like leeches scorched by salt.
Standing dominantly was Rex, who was snarling at the sky.
In quick succession before the trials hit him, he grabbed April’s body and threw her out of the fissure.
She flew high and far.
April was still unconscious, weak, but Kraken would cushion her fall.
But he didn’t need to do that as the moment April emerged from the fissure, Althea extended her hand, creating a cushion made entirely of sparkling water, and brought April towards them. It was shocking to see that April survived, but this wasn’t the time to stay idle.
“How is she?” Princess Davina asked.
“She’s… alive,” Althea replied, still shocked at what she was witnessing. “She actually survived.”
Princess Davina cracked a smile as she turned to the fissure again.
“I don’t know what happened in your past that scarred you so much—but you did it,” She whispered as if Rex could hear her words, hear her genuine happiness for him. “Against all odds, you saved her from inevitable death.”
Rumble!
Inside the fissure, Rex spread his arms and growled at the sky.
His tongue licked the air as his crimson eyes glowed with exhilarated madness.
Even through the commotion, he heard Princess Davina’s voice.
And that… that is all it takes for him to let loose.
<Fundamental Niches trial is commencing…>
Upon the notification, white vapor began to emerge from the ground around the fissure.
It came out like thick mist, moving like an encroaching wave toward the fissure.
Rex kept his aura high—and his focus to the maximum, knowing that the trials would be a hazardous process since even the System warned him to brace himself. But at this very moment, knowing the fact that finally, when it mattered, he succeeded in saving the people around him, he felt like he could take on the entire world.
Nothing is stopping him.
Since he was creating the Blood Moon Echo, he was aiming for the rank of 10 Altar of Gods.
Or perhaps, even higher.
Strong enough not only to coax the Spirit Emperor, but also the Sky People to return Devo to him.
And of course, strong enough to slaughter his way to Haxel.
He already gave Haxel his words.
He already promised that he would kill Haxel, and he intended to fulfil it.
Just then, Rex watched as a thick strand of energy came out from the Blood Moon Echo—moving slowly, but deliberately. It looked aimless, going left and right, but its destination was crystal clear. It was going towards Rex’s chest.
Rex allowed it to touch him.
And when it did, the crimson energy spread across his entire body.
Inside, his Spiritual Veins were charged with a foreign energy, causing them to glow crimson.
Even beneath his skin, his Spiritual Veins pulsed visibly—etched like glowing rivers for the naked eye to see. Rex felt nothing from the foreign energy at first, but in the next second, he could hear the sound of a pulse inside his ear.
Each throb matched the pulse from the Blood Moon Echo.
<Notice: the user is now one with the Blood Moon Echo until the trial ends, or the user surrenders.>
<Bear in mind, the Blood Moon Echo’s durability will exactly match the user’s durability.>
<All empowerment from myriad sources of power will be accounted without limit.>
Pssshh!
Rex didn’t turn to look as the white mist descended from the fissure’s mouth and also the walls.
He stood with his chest lifted and arms spread wide; eyes still fixed on the sky above.
In the next second, the white mist that had moved slowly earlier shot quickly, penetrating his body like a ghost devouring a person from the inside. Rex could feel a burning pain that gradually grew stronger as the white mist enveloped his whole body.
“No, it’s not enough!” Rex growled, laughing maniacally. “Don’t waste my time!”
Boom!!
Just with a roar, the white mist evaporated, burned by the heat coming from Rex’s body.
Even the Blood Moon Echo sparkled, untouched by the white mist.
<Notice: The Blood Moon Echo has passed the rank of Fundamental Niches!>
<Coffins of the Drowned trial is commencing…>
Another form of trial seeped from the crust of the earth—this time, it was liquid white.
Like water taken from a sea of milk.
It splashed around violently, dropping from the fissure’s mouth and drowning Rex entirely, attempting to drown him completely. His Spiritual Veins throbbed as the pain mounted, far beyond the Fundamental Niches’ trial.
But it was still not enough.
Roar!!
<Notice: The Blood Moon Echo has passed the rank of Coffins of the Drowned!>
<Long Lost Catacombs trial is commencing…>
Rex’s senses spiked as, unlike before, the approaching danger this time put him on guard.
Compared to the first two, the leap to this one must’ve been a lot higher.
Outside, Princess Davina and Althea watched as the trial began.
Both of them were on their knees and even suppressed their auras to avoid being recognized—as a part of the trial by the world. Even though it had barely been a minute since the trial started, the two could only suck in a cold breath when Rex cleared the first two trials with ease.
At most, the two expected Rex to take on the first two trials for an hour.
But their expectations were way off.
“Now is the Long-Lost Catacombs trial. Sadly, I don’t know much about it,” Althea shook her head.
“Even in the texts I’ve read from the Imperial Library, the trials for the Long-Lost Catacombs and above are unclear,” Princess Davina said, recalling the texts she read years ago. “If I’m not mistaken, this trial is called the Endless Pulse. As for how it works, I don’t know. But I do know the death toll for this trial is way higher than the previous ones.”
CRACK!
Out of nowhere, the fissure collapsed harder as a violent vortex of darkness shot down to its depth.
It was a thin vortex, no bigger than a person, but the concentrated energy coming from it was shocking.
Not only did it make them feel breathless, but it also negated all forms of energy.
A real test by the world.
Inside the fissure, Rex fell to one knee.
Boom!
He was pressed down by the dense black vortex from above—the force was so immense that he couldn’t even last a second standing against it. Even then, Rex resisted the pressure, but he soon realized it was not aiming to crush him directly.
Instead, the black vortex was seeping into the earth beneath his feet.
And in the next second, the pressure stopped.
“Hmm?”
Rex frowned for a fleeting moment as the sudden pause felt like the calm before the storm.
Just as expected, the ground around him cracked open.
He stood up abruptly and saw three coffins emerge from the ground and encircle him at the center.
Or so he thought—what appeared to be coffins initially were, in fact, only coffin lids, each suspended and connected by faint strings of worldly energy—that Rex couldn’t quite discern. Before he could even react, the three lids snapped shut in unison, sealing him inside their grasp.
Rex wanted to leap out, but the top was also closed by a worldly energy, giving him no way to escape.
<Notice: the user has been suppressed! Life energy, voidal energy, and Law power can’t be used.>
Is that so… What about my skills then?
<All skills associated with the system can still be used.>
A test for the body. I’m sorry to say this, but I excelled at these things.
Splash!
Inside the enclosed space, drowned in darkness, Rex’s eyes widened when countless magical spikes stabbed out from the coffin lids and pierced his body. None of them pierced deep, only the surface, but the locations were merciless.
Rex was stabbed across his entire body, including his eyes and head.
And from these spikes, a searing hot energy was forced into him.
<Notice: the user has been inflicted with the Endless Pulse.>
<All of the user’s pain nerves—will be stimulated past the limit, and with each heartbeat, the pain will only grow and grow until the user either dies or surrenders to the world.>
“Heughh!”
Immediately after the notifications appeared, a surge of scorching energy coiled around his beating heart like a snake, pulsing in rhythm with every beat. Rex’s body went rigid; agony tore through him so much that even breathing felt dangerous.
He wanted to roar, to release the pain, but he knew that doing so might tear his flesh apart.
Even the smallest motion causes extreme pain.
Rex was forced to stay absolutely still lest risk the pain growing stronger.
So, he gritted his teeth.
Hard.
Keep everything inside while he endured the pain.
Badump.
Badump.
Badump.
His heart was racing, and that worked against him.
Each beat made the pain deeper, more visceral, more agonizing than the previous trials.
It even resonated with his soul, which made the pain unbearable.
But that doesn’t matter.
Though most of my powers are suppressed, this trial is at the end of the day, meant to test, not kill.
Despite the suppression, its base power is around the same as mine.
And in a battle of raw strength against the same level of power, I will never lose.
BOOM!
Rex tensed his muscles, a ripple of strength coursed through his body as he shattered the coffin spikes with relative ease, tearing free from their grip—as though they were nothing. Even the coffin lids were shattered and dissipated, a sign that he passed the test.
His wounds sealed instantly—even his eyes regenerated, vision returning in full clarity.
Then, with a faint, defiant smirk, he looked up at the sky as if he was mocking it.
“Is that all?!” Rex laughed, eyes widening—with feral mania. “Give me the Altar of Gods trial! Give it to me!”
His Lone Alpha skill triggered his Survival State.
Killing him in this state would be extremely hard, as his regeneration was far stronger now.
Not to mention, now that Kraken was not around, the skill also grew stronger.
For wounds inflicted by the world’s energy, they would’ve taken him a while to recover properly—but now, they vanished in the blink of an eye. His regeneration became even more monstrous. If before Rex was hard to kill, now he was bordering on impossible.
As long as he’s conscious, the chances of someone killing him drop significantly.
“Let’s continue!”
<Notice: The Blood Moon Echo has passed the rank of Long-Lost Catacombs!>
<Mausoleums of the Stars trial is commencing…>
Just as he said that, Rex looked down at his body and saw that his flesh was convulsing, and his ink-black fur was shimmering with great power. It was the Lona Alpha passive skill that was stimulated, and his body was now adapting to the world’s energy.
But this made Rex grin as he stopped the process forcefully.
It hurts his internal organs from doing this, but what’s there to worry? He healed in an instant.
“No need to adapt to that,” Rex looked up to the sky again, staring straight at the reddish glowing moon above that seemed eager to have—a taste of him. “I can handle the rest of these trials on my own. Save that passive skill for when that angry-head made a move.”
Oblivious to Rex, there was a figure nearby, watching the situation unfold.
Kei Xun stared at what was happening.
She had been watching this situation from the start, expecting to see Rex confronting the test.
But then, she bit her lower lip hard as if she was reluctant.
In hindsight, she seemed displeased and angry, but there was something deeper behind her golden eyes.
