The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1705: Stubborn Duo

Chapter 1705: Stubborn Duo
<Warning: the user is being overwhelmed by pain!>
<It’s advised to stay conscious.>
Unlike the previous trials, the Crypt of Nature’s trial caught Rex completely off guard.
He wasn’t aware that there was this level of pain.
So overwhelming that a scream tore from his throat despite his desperate effort to hold it back.
Rex stared at the dark sky above with the reddish moon peeking behind the veil—his vision turning into a haze that distorted every minute detail. Veins bulged across his body, blood spilled free, and even his regeneration ability went into overdrive.
His senses were overloaded with a culmination of nature’s wrath.
Lightning coursed through his blood vessels and spiritual veins, paralyzing him from the inside and also scorched his nerve endings. Lava burned his entire body, causing his skin to bubble and melt like he was made of wax. Cold water wrapped around his head, drowning him, keeping him in the brutal state of suffocation.
And lastly, the wind turned into sharp blades, slashing and stabbing him relentlessly.
Rex was trapped in a perpetual state of agony.
One that he has never experienced before, especially since this vortex also attacked his soul.
Fortunately, his three Soul Artifacts were on the way, shielding his actual broken soul from the torment.
But it wouldn’t last long.
Swoosh!
“RAARGGHK!!”
<Notice: the Reaping Seed is activated!>
From below, the Blood Moon Echo hummed with a violent reddish surge of power.
It shot upward in a spiral and pierced through the vortex to reach Rex.
As soon as the surge seeped into Rex, the focus and ferocity in his eyes returned as he snapped back to reality. His regeneration grew even stronger, and his physique grew even more durable. What’s this? Is this the Berserker of Skartold Echo?
He could feel his anger boiling hotter inside.
Like something was amplifying his anger, thus making him even stronger.
Rex recalled that the Reaping Seed had devoured a big portion of the Berserker of Skartold Echo.
It must be because of that.
System, how long is it going to continue?!
<Notice: Approximately under five minutes.>
Five minutes?! Five minutes of this?!
Rex gritted his teeth, as even though he could endure it right now, it was barely.
He didn’t know if he could keep up with this or not.
No… I can.
Rex’s expression turned grim as he recalled that, above saving Nivellen—and also the others by getting stronger from this visit to the Spirit Realm, he also had to save one more person, his dear friend Edward, who was trapped in the Chaos Realm.
In there must be torment beyond comprehension.
Compared to this, Edward must’ve suffered worse, so Rex couldn’t fail right here.
Not in a million years.
Not to mention, he still has a promise to keep to Haxel.
Roar!!
Rex unleashed a thunderous roar, enduring the trial with everything he had.
Underneath, Princess Davina heard the howl and immediately snapped out of her trance.
She had stayed behind because she refused to do nothing while Rex was fighting for his life—she hurled everything she had at the Immortal Slugs in hopes that it would make a difference. But now, as Rex was facing a trial set by the world, why was she standing still like a statue?
No matter what Rex says, she ought to help.
“Esmeravon!” Princess Davina roared.
Scree!
Esmeravon immediately came down from the sky and landed before her, protecting her from the violent rush of energy. Even such a big creature was forced to claw deep into the earth to anchor itself, and the closer they get, the worse this rush is going to be.
“Drop me in the fissure!” Princess Davina instructed and climbed on.
Scree?
Naturally, Esmeravon looked at her in rebuttal.
“Are you crazy?!” Althea exclaimed from the side. “What about April? If you want to help, we should keep April safe until the trial ends!”
“You protect April,” Princess Davina urged; her tone final. “I’ll help Rex endure this.”
Swoosh!
Not even waiting for Althea to answer, Princess Davina and Esmeravon shot forward.
From behind, Althea kept calling her name, as this was reckless.
But Princess Davina didn’t care.
’Nothing in the texts stated—that external help is ineffective,’ Princess Davina thought, eyes staring at Rex as she lay flat on Esmeravon’s back and held on tightly. ’You don’t want help, and you’re stubborn about it. But I’m also stubborn. Just wait, I’ll help.’
Swoosh!
Having no other choice, Esmeravon flapped her wings harder, taking it up another notch.
Even against the pressure, she was strong enough to approach the fissure.
Princess Davina summoned her Soul Artifact and grabbed its edge with her hand before yanking on it hard. In response, the ethereal emerald cloak grew bigger and translucent, covering Esmeravon entirely like a protective shield.
It helped lessen the rush of energy and also helped Esmeravon keep afloat.
Underneath, the grounds were cracked and shattered.
Esmeravon couldn’t afford falling down, or else she wouldn’t be able to take off again.
Nearing the fissure, the rush of energy turned into a thousand blades.
It penetrated through the translucent cloak and cut Esmeravon’s body relentlessly.
Each strike spilled blood and caused her to flinch—but feeling how determined Princess Davina was to reach the fissure, she kept forcing her way forward. She was doing her absolute best, especially—when the vortex that reached the heavens grew even more powerful.
Scree!
As opposed to crossing the fissure to drop Princess Davina, Esmeravon banked right.
She needed to immediately fly away right after.
“Thank you for always sticking with me,” Princess Davina rubbed Esmeravon’s back—and sprinted to the left wing before making a wild leap. She fought through the rush of energy and went into the fissure without a second thought.
Unlike earlier, the fissure wasn’t dark anymore.
Princess Davina could see the bottom.
’The Immortal Slugs are inactive… Are they also suppressed? Or are they afraid?’ She shook her head as the answer didn’t matter, shifting her focus to the glowing crimson sphere. ’That should be the Echo. Rex’s Original Echo.’
Tap!
Princess Davina landed lightly and immediately went to the Blood Moon Echo.
Swoosh!
“Krggh…!”
As she got close, a pulsing energy blasted from the Blood Moon Echo, striking her hard.
Blood drizzled down the corner of her lips.
Since the Blood Moon Echo was being tested, it treated everything nearby as an enemy.
“I’m not your enemy,” Princess Davina whispered—raising her hands in surrender as she kept trying to approach closer. “I’m here to help… I’m only here to help.”
Swoosh!
Once again, another pulse struck Princess Davina.
Now, she was forced to cough out a mouthful of blood, but the stubbornness never left her eyes.
“Just let me come close, and I’ll show you that I can help…”
Echoes of this level will have a conscience and could pick and choose who could wield it or approach it, so naturally, Princess Davina has to convince it that she wasn’t a threat. Perhaps feeling her genuine emotions, the third pulse never came.
Princess Davina immediately approached and pointed her hands at the Blood Moon Echo.
“Arghk!”
Her hands were zapped by an unknown power that reacted the moment she was too close.
It wasn’t from the Blood Moon Echo, and she knew it.
“Don’t underestimate me!”
Swish!
Princess Davina’s eyes glowed emerald, and her entire being erupted with enormous life energy that was strong enough to suppress the rampant energy inside the Blood Moon Echo. Her entire being glowed with emerald light as she unleashed everything that she had from the start.
Pointing her hands at the Blood Moon Echo again, she began to use her power to help.
Across the chamber, countless emerald stars began to appear rapidly.
And each one of them immediately fired a beam of energy straight at the Blood Moon Echo.
It was her strongest Echo, the Starfall Echo.
Princess Davina roared, eyes bulging and glowing as she pressed everything she had against the invasive energy within the Blood Moon Echo. Around her, everything cracked. Her entire being turned into one emerald silhouette. And blood seeped out from her mouth more.
But she didn’t care.
Crack!
Boom!
Above, Rex’s eyes sparkled as a notification appeared.
<Notice: the Starfall Echo has aided the user in suppressing the Crypt of Nature trial!>
Even without needing to look, Rex already knew that it was Princess Davina.
Countless stars appeared around him, mingling with the vortex, and infused him with more strength.
“Nobody listens to me,” He uttered, but the corner of his lips curled a little. “Fine, let’s end this.”
“Rrraaargghkk!”
KABOOM!
Rex’s entire being exploded like a supernova, blasting a shockwave along with an expanding crimson ring that stretched to the horizon. Upon the blast, the vortex evaporated instantly, and everything around came to a standstill as he levitated above like a celestial beast.
His arms stretched to the sides, basking in the feeling of triumph.
Even though his muscles and bones were exposed on parts of his body, they regenerated rapidly.
His flesh grew, and in a matter of seconds, his form returned to normal.
<Notice: The Blood Moon Echo has passed the rank of Crypt of Nature!>
<Does the user want to proceed to the next rank or surrender here?>
Once the energy dissipated, Rex plummeted from the sky and landed hard inside the fissure.
Dust covered the entire chamber from how hard he crashed down.
But once it settled, Princess Davina came to view.
She was kneeling on one knee, panting heavily beside the Blood Moon Echo with blood tracing down the side of her face and also her lips. Just from the looks of it, she has exhausted her life energy, as even her face was paler than normal.
System, is she going to be okay?
<Yes.>
<Notice: External help requires more strength to spend compared to being the one tested.>
I see.
Considering that the Crypt of Nature trial was the second-highest rank for an Echo, it was no wonder that Princess Davina was spent.
Noticing that he was standing before her, Princess Davina raised her gaze weakly.
She met his gaze and smiled a little, “Don’t look at me like that. I came because I want to help, I know the risk.”
“I didn’t even say anything,” Rex chuckled and approached.
Rex approached her slowly and gently went down to one knee to match her eye level.
Even as he stared at her for a few seconds, she refused to look at him.
Perhaps she was tired, or maybe it was something else.
Rex summoned a soft, silk white cloth and also a vial from the inventory.
He then reached out his other hand and gently lifted Princess Davina’s chin, exposing her embarrassed face that was stained with blood and sweat for all to see. It was Rex’s first time seeing her like this, and it’s definitely his first time seeing her this disheveled.
“I’ll appreciate it if you don’t say anything right now,” Princess Davina broke the silence.
Rex smiled a little and wiped the blood and sweat with the cloth.
And to his surprise, Princess Davina let him.
He wiped her face good and then gave her the white cloth and also the vial.
“Drink it and go as far as you can from here,” Rex whispered, staring at her eyes while holding her chin.
Naturally, she wanted to avoid her gaze as she didn’t want to leave.
Not when their fate was intertwined.
She turned away, but paused mid-track.
“Thank you.”
Princess Davina looked at Rex again, surprised that that kind of thing could even come out of his mouth.
“Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it,” Rex continued, staring at her eyes—with a flicker of tenderness that she had never seen before. “But your role ends here. I’m going to accept the next rank, so get as far away from here as possible. If I survive, and I definitely will, I’ll find you back home.”
“Home…?” Princess Davina stared at Rex in surprise.
But then, she cracked a smile and stood up.
“Nothing I say will stop you, so I’m not going to try,” She turned to the side. “But remember, your life is not only yours. It’s important for me, so don’t be reckless. Come back safely.”
