The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1780: What’s Next?

Chapter 1780: What’s Next?
What’s next?
That’s the question that all of them wondered silently while waiting for Rex to return.
All eyes were on him.
Each one of them was wondering how he would proceed after this.
Considering what went down to reach this very moment, there are a lot of ways he could play this out.
None of them could read his mind, so they were curious.
’He… He’s not going to actually massacre the empire and rampage through the entire Spirit Realm—is he?’ Alana held her elbow with her other hand, squeezing tight, fearing that he would still venture into the path of revenge and blood. ’Even though it’s not perfect, this realm is where—the Divine Countess was born.’
Despite how fractured and dark the realm became, it was still their home.
Alana didn’t want it to be destroyed.
Especially now that she and Kei Xun were basically gambling it all on Rex.
If that’s what he wanted to do, the two of them couldn’t refuse.
’Saving Devo is next on the list,’ Amanir thought, glancing at the sky. Somewhere up there, Devo was waiting to be rescued. Delaying it any further wouldn’t be ideal. ’Since the relationship with the empire has become like this, I don’t mind skipping the aptitude upgrade until Devo is rescued.’
Being inside Rex together involuntarily made them closer.
Amanir might not show it, but he was worried about Devo.
At this moment, he might have already fallen into the scheme of his family members.
Or perhaps he was now being tortured, or worse… killed.
Either way, this couldn’t be delayed anymore.
’His Majesty already gave them the benefit of the doubt, which was extremely kind from someone like him,’ Linthia thought, closing her eyes as she knew Rex wouldn’t let this go. Letting it go would mean pardoning betrayal, and that was a precedent someone like him could never afford.
’Someone will have to pay first,’ She thought with certainty. ’No doubt about it.’
In Linthia’s mind, that’s the only way Rex would proceed with this.
She had seen and analyzed how Rex made his decision countless times.
As one of the future generals of the Clarentium Empire, she made sure to learn from Rex.
Brand the vision Rex has for the empire and his image into her mind.
And this is the only way for him to retain those things.
Rex remained silent for a couple more minutes, really thinking about his answer as the tension swelled in the air. Every single one of them was anticipating what he was going to decide, and the pause made them breathless.
Eventually, his eyes cleared of doubts.
“I came to this realm for the Phoenix Feather—that’s one of the main reasons why I rushed here,” Rex said; his eyes hardening and his brows tightening with fierce determination. “Naturally, the next thing would be the next main reason I’m here, to rescue Devo.”
Hearing this, Amanir nodded, as that’s what he expected.
On the other hand, Alana breathed in relief as this was a lot better, while Linthia was surprised.
But their reactions shifted again as Rex continued.
“However, I also couldn’t allow what the empress did to me,” Rex added—eyes glistening with savage murderous intent. “At this moment, the empire must be searching for her, and would soon find her. So, this is what I’m going to do. I’m going to align these two goals into one. And then depending on how the empire reacted,”
He shifted his gaze to look at Alana, “I’ll decide to either spare the bloodshed or not.”’
Alana lowered her gaze.
Even though the moment already passed, Rex still remembered what he said.
He didn’t say those things only out of sheer anger.
He said that because it’s simply what needed to be done.
No chance he’s letting the people who went against him go easily.
“As long as I’m still breathing, I will follow you wherever you go, Your Majesty,” Linthia bowed.
Just like Rex, the words she said were backed with determination.
“If that’s your decision, then so be it,” Alana also stood up and bowed. “I am at your disposal.”
On the other hand, Amanir watched the two of them pledge their loyalty further, then turned to Rex—clear confusion written across his face. “So… what are we doing again? I’m confused,” He asked with a sheepish smile. “Are we rescuing Devo or are we getting back at the empress?”
Rex stared at Amanir lazily, like he was looking at a stupid potato.
“Just follow my lead,” He said, shaking his head. “Where is the Maw of Oblivion? Did you leave it?”
“Oh, right…” Amanir flicked his fingers, remembering the other treasure chest. “I haven’t opened that one, and I left it behind when I saw the Voidal Lord attacking you. It should be fine, though, it’s a hard chest to crack.”
“Get the other treasure chest,” Rex turned to Linthia. “Bring it here. Also, find a place to lay low.”
Swish—!
Like a phantom, Linthia seeped into the ground and swam away, tearing the ground like water.
“Why haven’t you returned to Kei Xun yet?” Rex fixed on Alana. “She’s on my side now, right? Call her and bring her here. I want to have a few words with her. If she’s really on my side, then it’s time for her to prove it.”
“I need to recover a little bit more,” Alana regretfully answered. “I’ll do it once I’m ready.”
Rex didn’t rush her.
She was the one who helped him greatly earlier, so there’s no need to be harsh on her.
“Sir… Err—Your Majesty?” Alana hesitated over what to call Rex right now.
She felt out of place calling him normally when others referred to him as the emperor.
“You are not one of my subjects, and I’m no longer a knight of the empire. Call me by my name.”
“R-Right… Rex, I wanted to inform you that the princess should also be near the Tomb of Heroes earlier.”
“Princess? You mean Davina?”
“Yes. For some reason, she was headed to the Tomb of Heroes.”
Alana had sensed two distinct presences—while barred from entering the invincibility trial’s arena, one of them being the shadowy signature of Linthia, while the other was an approaching convoy. And within one of the carriages was the unmistakable presence of Princess Davina.
It’s worth telling Rex about this, considering their relationship.
Davina, huh… I don’t know why she turned around, but I hope she can get April.
Just as he thought of that, he couldn’t help but massage her forehead.
Once again, April was dragged into his mess.
At this point, it would be too unfair if I didn’t turn her into a werewolf. She’s too involved not to become a pack member. That is… if she survived.
Rex clenched his fists.
He decided that once he found a place to lie low for a moment, he’d send Linthia to check on April.
“But the princess’s energy is different now, I don’t know why,” Alana added.
“Oh, that’s my fault. I turned her into a werewolf,” Rex answered, recalling the magnificent spectacle—that manifested upon making Princess Davina a pack member, Heiress of Moon and Stars. “She is now one of my pack members.”
“Eh…?! You did?!” Amanir exclaimed; he wasn’t aware of this.
Then, he recalled that same grand spectacle that appeared suddenly in the sky.
“Oh! That time!” He flicked his ears, only now realizing that it was the spectacle born from Princess Davina’s transformation. “Did you really turn her into a werewolf? Are you really, really sure she’s fine with it? What about the others?”
“She’s the one who asked me to turn her,” Rex rubbed the side of his face. “And she’s damn strong. I don’t know what to say, even if I want to refuse. As for the others, I’m sure they won’t mind since she’s a great help to me.”
“Congratulations on expanding your invincibility cadre,” Alana congratulated.
“Invincibility cadre?” Rex raised a brow. “What’s that?”
“All Scions have their own special group, normally called an Invincibility Cadre, or simply a Cadre. It’s basically servants, supporters, those who help you ascend the stairs,” Alana explained, aware that Rex was a new Scion and might not be familiar with this. “I belong to the Divine Saintess’ Cadre. All of her servants are priests or priestesses, and they live in the sanctuary.”
Hearing this, Rex recalled something.
It was a new skill that he got from the System, the Silverstar Genesis.
A pocket dimension that he hadn’t had the chance of entering because of all that happened to him.
This ’sanctuary’ Alana is talking about must be a type of pocket dimension, but was controlled by Kei Xun. But if the sanctuary is her place—what about the Sun-Domain she pulled me into back then? What is that?
Just from this alone, Rex realized that he still had a lot to learn about how the Scions worked.
Like, what’s the significance of this Cadre?
Why aren’t the Scions killing each other if all of them are rivals?
Or how to ascend the stairs to reach the Highseat of Invincibility?
“What else do you know about the Scions? Tell me about it,” Rex asked curiously.
Since they were waiting for Linthia to come back, it would be more productive if Alana could tell him more about Scions. Judging from how close she was to Kei Xun, she must certainly be the equivalent of a Female Alpha or Luna in Kei Xun’s Cadre, so she must know a lot.
At least a lot more than Rex currently.
“I apologize,” Alana offered an acute smile and raised her hands. “I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to be explaining about these things to you. The Divine Saintess is more suitable to answer your questions about the Scions.”
“Is that so?” Rex shrugged.
He knew that this was coming.
Not a lot of people know about Scions, and those who knew wouldn’t talk about them easily.
“What are you guys talking about?” Amanir intervened, completely oblivious. “What are Scions?’
“Nothing.”
“Are you treating me like a kid?! I’m thousands of years older than you!”
Rex turned his face away; no sign of any intention of explaining.
Seeing this only made Amanir clench his ear into a ball, angry that he was being treated like this.
“Hah… In any case, aren’t you going to tell Davina that you’re fine?” He asked.
But he got no answer.
Rex remained silent, patiently waiting for Linthia to come back.
“Wha—? Are you not going to tell her? Why? I thought—she’s now closer to you,” Amanir stammered, eyes widening in shock. “Wait—does this have something to do with what you’d be doing?! Rex, what are you really planning to do?”
“You want to quickly rescue Devo, right?” Rex glanced at him with one brow raised.
He was staring at Devo like this; all should be obvious.
Then, he pointed his index finger skyward, “In order to do that, we need to get up there. There will be a lot of blowback from the Skillian Divine Court. All of them, assumed is as strong, if not far stronger, than the Spirit Emperor. Do you think it’s going to be easy?”
“What are you saying?” Amanir asked breathlessly.
“Extreme measures for extreme situations,” Alana answered for Rex. “That’s what he meant.”
“Extreme… measures?” Devo repeated.
Rex stood up slowly, still exhausted but now having enough strength to stand on his own.
His mouth slowly turned into a muzzle; bones cracked and shifted.
Once the muzzle was formed, he sucked in a deep breath.
Aooouuu!!
A thunderous howl pierced through the air, even through the vortex that Linthia summoned.
Amanir looked at where Rex was howling at, and then back to Rex again, “What’s that for?”
“I don’t intend to involve Princess Davina, but I still need to have an eye inside the empire,” Rex said, smirking as he listened to his howl reaching extremely far attentively. “And I have someone in mind. As stubborn as she is, she couldn’t resist me now.”
