The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1788: The Princess’ Perspective

Chapter 1788: The Princess’ Perspective
Sever the head, and the limbs will twitch, but they cannot fight.
Several Alpha Primes cleared the area—with their respective Indirect Moon Abilities, quickening their speed in an instant and rendering the enemies around them into meat chunks. Then, their growls reached their inner pack members.
From an aerial view, three Alpha Primes cut into the center of the battle.
Every enemy that stood in their paths was cleared by their inner pack members efficiently.
They rushed forward with their eyes locked on the target overhead.
And upon reaching the range, their powerful hind legs propelled them skyward, straight at the empress.
All three of them leaped at the exact same time.
Three daunting figures reached their energy-infused claws at the gliding empress.
Killing her is a surefire way to stomp on the enemy’s morale, a surefire way to make the battle theirs.
Swoosh—!
Closing in from behind is a werewolf with bronze-armored scales for skin, sprinting mid-air.
Gistella’s eyes narrowed at the three Alpha Primes that were trying to reach Evelyn.
In an instant, she charged her hands with mana—and summoned a translucent barrier right above those Alpha Primes, blocking their paths. None should be able to touch even a strand of Evelyn’s hair. She’ll make sure of it.
Shatter—!
One Alpha Prime, blessed by the Blood Moon King Mark, pierced through the barrier.
Donning a mid-ninth rank realm power, he was able to overpower the barrier that Gistella rushed.
Evelyn glanced down and was surprised to see the Alpha Prime was closing in rapidly.
It only took a moment for him to reach right underneath her.
“Your death is our first step to victory! I’ll make sure to savor your body limb by limb!”
A hand clasped around the Alpha Prime’s ankle right when his red claws were about to clamp around Evelyn’s foot. The sudden increase in weight halted his momentum, and the sharp pain forced him to look down and growl.
Someone reached him first before he could reach Evelyn.
“You traitor…” the Alpa Prime growled, eyes reddening from sheer anger and disappointment.
“No one is to touch the empress,” Mavok’s eyes blazed with determination; the same Blood Moon King Mark was also displayed—on his forehead, showcasing that they were the children of the same full moon. “You’re on the wrong side of the war, brother….”
Mavok pulled hard.
He grabbed the Alpha Prime’s foot with two hands and twisted his body.
Like a comet, the Alpha Prime was thrown back to the ground with a thunderous crash.
A shockwave exploded as a big crater appeared on the back side of the rebel forces.
Once the coast was cleared, Evelyn and Gistella continued onward, gliding through the air—and landed right on the balcony of a big cathedral—where Princess Selene should be. Unlike the battlefield, it was silent in this place.
No sound could be heard other than the chaos in the background.
“Going here is a mistake, Evelyn,” Gistella whispered as she landed on the cold stone floor.
“I… I’m sorry,” Evelyn clenched her fists. “I was angry and didn’t think it through.”
Seeing how many Alpha Primes—and werewolves that were on Princess Selene’s side still made Evelyn angry at the situation. Prince Alaric has the majority of the Alpha Primes now, and his decision matters most, but it would be perfect if Princess Selene could also be in the picture, helping him.
The Scarlet Banes Kingdom would adapt to the new reign faster with both of them in the fray.
Evelyn doesn’t want this battle to reach its inevitable conclusion.
Both sides fighting to the death.
She was prepared to do so the moment the Great Army marched, but that doesn’t mean she gave up.
Gave up finding a way to defeat Princess Selene without killing her or her forces.
No method came to mind.
But Adhara carved a way that could make that idealistic scenario come true.
A duel that would decide the winner.
And when total victory was beginning to form, Princess Selene destroyed it all.
For something as meaningless as her pride.
It angers Evelyn so much that she lost her mind for a moment there, wanting nothing more than to have her hands around Princess Selene’s neck to strangle her. To make her understand that submission to the Clarentium Empire was not a defeat, but an evolution.
Rex would certainly help them elevate their bloodlines to the next level.
Helping them go past their limits.
“But now that we’re here, let’s meet her,” Evelyn said as she looked into the entrance to the balcony.
Princess Selene must be inside right now.
“Do what you need to do, but if this turns into a fight, please cooperate with me,” Gistella said with clear concern in her voice. Even with them working together, they might not be able to beat the princess. “I’ll bring you away as soon as it gets dangerous.”
“Okay,” Evelyn nodded and walked onward.
She didn’t argue with what Gistella was saying.
For one, Gistella doesn’t excel in a direct battle as her power revolves around protecting others.
Her offense had always stemmed from her Undead nature, which was now negligible in comparison to her werewolf side. As for Evelyn, she’s good in offense as she’s an Awakened before all of this, but at this moment, she couldn’t utilize her bloodline.
Borrowing Adhara’s power is out of her options right now, so she could only rely on herself.
And because of that, there’s no saying if she could harm Princess Selene enough to kill her in a battle.
Entering the cathedral was quite unnerving for them.
It was extremely silent and dark.
Unlike what the exterior entails, the inside was nothing more than rubble and broken furniture.
Both remained completely alert.
Evelyn’s hair and armor shimmered with a rising violet light—as she transformed into her Luna form. Beside her, Gistella’s enchanter power hummed to life, weaving a translucent protective dome around them both.
Any attack would now have to break that barrier before it could touch their skin.
They could sense no aura and scent of Princess Selene.
But there was no need for them to locate her.
She was right before their eyes.
Reaching the stone rail of the top floor, Evelyn and Gistella looked down. Below, where the altar should have stood, Princess Selene waited amidst a mound of twisted, mutated animal bones. A shaft of bloody moonlight fell through the hole in the ceiling, crowning the peak of the mound in red.
Like a natural spotlight that highlighted Princess Selene, who was sitting on top of the mound.
Evelyn and Gistella didn’t hide their presences.
But there was no movement coming from Princess Selene.
No sign of aggression or the inkling feeling before an attack.
Both of them exchanged a look before jumping down to the ground floor—landing a dozen meters away from Princess Selene. Evelyn didn’t address Princess Selene instantly; she swept her gaze around first, scanning for anything that stood out.
’Is there any trap? Can you feel any?’
[Channel your luna energy into your nose, and picture the pack in your mind.]
’I can do something like that?’
[Yes, all Lunas could do it as long as they have enough luna energy. A Luna’s responsibility is to keep the pack whole and safe through a myriad of means. You still have a lot to learn.]
Evelyn glanced at Princess Selene again.
Once she made sure that the princess had no intention of attacking, seemingly staying completely still, Evelyn closed her eyes and did—as the entity inside her moon earrings said. She pictured the Silverstar Pack as vividly as possible, then channeled her luna energy into her nose.
Countless scents seeped into her nose.
More than normal, almost like her smelling sense was amplified by a hundred.
[Focus. If there’s an ashen smell, then there’s a trap set up within the cathedral.]
Evelyn inhaled deeply and smelled nothing like that.
It was clear.
’She must want to talk with me,’ She thought inside, watching the silent Princess Selene. Since there’s no sign of a trap or aggression, there might be a chance that the princess wanted to talk to her. Perhaps, she wanted to be convinced.
“It’s still not too late, princess,” Evelyn finally said, her voice cutting the quiet. “It’s not too late to end this and end this unnecessary war. If I hadn’t made it clear already, I don’t want to kill you.”
“For me, maybe…” Princess Selene answered whisperingly. “But it is too late for you.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“I meant there’s no chance for me to accept you, your empire, and those traitors outside.”
“I’ve spared most of your people who surrendered. That should count for something.”
A humorous chuckle—blared from Princess Selene’s mouth, prompting Gistella to take a step closer to Evelyn, fearing a sudden attack.
“You don’t get it, do you?” Princess Selene sneered in contempt.
“Then make me understand,” Evelyn answered, her brows furrowed in concentration, trying to really understand the reason behind Princess Selene’s stubbornness. “What is it you think you’re preserving? Your kingdom will remain. Your power, as the Honey Moon Princess will remain. You would not be treated unfairly. I swear it. So, what is this truly about?”
“This is about preserving the werewolf’s legacy,” Princess Selene replied hauntingly, then she raised her index finger to point at Evelyn. “The one your Alpha is destroying…”
A low, simmering growl vibrated inside her throat, bleeding into the final words.
A raw, real testament to the hatred carved into her soul.
“The Werewolf Race,” Princess Selene started, rising from the mound of bones. “Is indigenous to the forest.” She took her first step down the haunting mound, the dry relics crackling like dead leaves under her weight. “We are feral. Aggressive. It’s in our nature.”
“But your Alpha…” Her voice dripped with contempt. “Your Alpha was too dignified to be what we are outside of battle.”
She descended another step as the air around her grew colder.
“Your Alpha tainted our sacred bloodline with the blood of humans.” Her words sharpened, each one a precise, venomous strike. “He gifted you and other humans the curse of shifting, of bearing strong skins. He gave you, a human, the wild and called you a werewolf… Stripping real werewolves of our identity.”
Princess Selene reached the midpoint, her eyes blazing under the crimson moonlight.
“Your Alpha sullied our divine grounds.” Her voice rose, echoing off the stone walls. “The soil where a million of our ancestors bled, where our pups learned history—where our elders returned to the earth, where our Great Luna gave her life to save us! He desecrated it. Treated it as common dirt. As rubbish.”
At this point, her entire body was shaking.
Even a tear drizzled down one eye, a crystallization of her emotions.
One that made Evelyn’s face harden.
She listened attentively to what Princess Selene had to say, but wasn’t expecting it to be this rapid.
This direct.
The final steps were taken in a silence that throbbed with rage.
“Your Alpha deserted our Gods.” Her whisper was the most dangerous sound yet. “The Lunirich Gods, who helped us survive in the Ancient Era, who gave us fang and claw and fury. He turned his back. He made us enemies in the eyes of the very deities who sheltered us.”
Princess Selene finally stepped onto the cold stone floor and stopped.
She stood tall, her composure a thin veil over bottomless wrath.
“Now, tell me… Evelyn,” Princess Selene continued, calling Evelyn by name as if it were an insult. Her glowing eyes were narrowing sharply. “Knowing those things, knowing what would be the end of this, what would you do in my position?”
Evelyn gritted her teeth.
She was cornered by the question.
Even Gistella could sense that she was sweating something awful.
“Would you kneel—knowing your submission meant the werewolf’s identity would slowly fade away for good, replaced by your Hybrid kind?” Princess Selene tilted her head, her voice a claw of cold reason. “Or would you stand and fight, and die? In death, at least, you remain what you were born to be.”
