The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1789: Saving the Condemned

Chapter 1789: Saving the Condemned
From the moment the werewolves found out about Rex’s existence, it tries to make a move to take him down. It almost worked a couple of times, cornering him to the brink of death, but he survived and came out stronger than before.
Humans sheltered him through his adolescence in power.
As for the werewolves who wanted him dead, they could only be patient and wait for their chance.
Despite suffering losses against the fake werewolf, despite the sorrow, the werewolves remained patient.
It was a trait of the hunter to be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.
That chance soon came as Humans finally realized what he truly was and made him an outcast.
However, by then, it was already too late for the werewolves.
Rex already has fangs and claws of his own.
Attacking him only resulted in making him stronger and stronger, which was repeatedly proven by those who had the bravery or stupidity to try. And it doesn’t take long before the werewolves come to the vivid realization that they had condemned their race.
Making an enemy of Rex was the greatest mistake of their race made in the new era.
Now, not even the elders from the ancient era could go against him.
And for the condemned, even patience expires.
Princess Selene understood that very well—and this was her only option to at least preserve the dignity of actual werewolves. She and her people have lost so much that there’s nothing else to lose, other than themselves.
Other than the blood of werewolves inside their bodies.
Evelyn opened her mouth, intending to respond, but she stopped.
Not because she doesn’t have anything to say, but because she noticed something on her periphery.
It was Gistella.
Her entire body was shaking, and her hands were clenched into fists hard.
“Gistella…?” She called in a whisper.
“As the head figure of the werewolf race—you have a singular gift for blaming everyone but yourself,” Gistella said, her voice trembling. She lifted her eyes—a gaze glittering with fury and disbelief. “Have you ever truly looked at yourself—in the mirror? I have always believed that Liches, with their hollow emotions, were weakened by it. But you… You showed me otherwise.”
Princess Selene’s brows dipped into an evident frown.
Out of the entire Silverstar Pack, she knew that Gistella was the most docile.
For Gistella to speak out, as this caught her off guard.
“Gistella, what are you saying?” Evelyn held her shoulder, also surprised by this reaction.
At this moment, however, Gistella didn’t want to heed her.
Hearing Princess Selene blaming Rex for everything made her blood boil.
Gistella had intended to let Evelyn lead—but it was clear her focus was fixed on peace at any cost, even if it meant overlooking Princess Selene’s hypocrisy. She could no longer stand silently and swallow the poison the princess was spilling about Rex.
She pushed away Evelyn’s hand and stepped forward.
“Let’s get one thing straight, princess…” She whispered hauntingly. “You’re not the good person here.”
“Rex is too dignified to act feral and aggressive…? Yes, that’s because, unlike you, he’s already stripped of what he once was. He’s now also a werewolf, whether he likes it or not.”
Gistella stopped about ten meters away, meeting Princess Selene’s gaze head-on.
She raised one finger up, like she was making sure there was no point that she forgot to address.
Even though she was within Princess Selene’s reach, she didn’t seem to care.
Then, she raised her middle finger.
“Rex tainted your sacred bloodline with the blood of humans? When? Who? Flunra? In case you don’t know, he tried killing Rex first, and that’s his consequence. I never saw him going around and turning other werewolves into his kind.”
She was on a streak, venting out her anger to defend Rex, who was villainized.
Now, her ring finger was raised.
“Rex sullied your divine grounds… Because of what, princess?” Gistella asked, raising a brow as if she was taunting Princess Selene to answer. “Did he go there unprovoked? No. He went there because your kind ceaselessly threatened him and those around him.”
It was a blatant fact.
Though Princess Selene’s face remained neutral, nothing she said or showed could rebuke that.
Gistella’s eyes then narrowed as she raised her pinky finger.
“And finally… Rex deserted the Lunirich Gods?” Gistella’s smile was thin and cynical, as if the princess were a pride-blinded fool. “You never acknowledged him as a werewolf, so what does that have to do with him? What claim do your Gods have on him? What kinship does he owe to deities—you say he was never part of?”
“Choose one,” She sneered condescendingly. “Is he a werewolf or a fake one? Make up your mind.”
Silence enveloped the entire chamber after Gistella’s voice rang.
It was a deafening silence as Princess Selene couldn’t say a single thing back.
She only stared at Gistella, still with her hateful gaze.
Evelyn had been so intent on understanding Princess Selene’s perspective that she’d barely registered the venom aimed at Rex. Now it struck her: Princess Selene was painting him—as the villain, when he had always been the one who was attacked first.
Everything that came after was the consequence of said attack.
Had the Scarlet Banes Kingdom shown no hostility, then there would be no need for this.
The kingdom doesn’t even need to be a part of the alliance.
Just being neutral like the Undead, Demons, and Shapeshifters would more than suffice.
Since none of them aimed to attack Rex or the empire, those races were completely fine and untouched by the fury and destruction that Rex could bring. Yet the Scarlet Banes Kingdom doubled down on their intent, so this happened.
“You see?” Princess Selene shifted her gaze towards Evelyn. “There’s no peace to have here.”
She turned away from them.
“Leave now,” she commanded, her voice icy. “Watch your army break from a distance. Mine thrives on endurance. Yours will falter, and when they cry out for you… You will be too far to answer. This is your only chance to go with dignity.”
Evelyn didn’t turn around to leave.
Instead, she approached Gistella and held her shoulder again.
“Thank you for standing up for Rex,” She whispered. “Now, let me take over from here.”
Gistella stood up for Rex.
Normally, it would be a deal-breaker, as that would only make the other side angry.
And if both sides are angry, then there can be no talk about peace.
But for some reason, though mild, there was a subtle but unmistakable shift that crossed the princess’s face. One that was prompted by Gistella’s words. ’It’s a miracle she hasn’t gone berserk, especially with the Blood Moon so close,’ Evelyn thought. ’But for whatever reason, she’s holding back. If anything… her resolve seems to be softening.’
Evelyn could sense it.
It was vague, but she could see that Princess Selene wanted them to leave.
And it was because of a weakness in her resolve.
Princess Selene’s determination was wavering, so she didn’t want to talk to them anymore.
Gistella huffed from her nose and stepped to the side, allowing Evelyn to take control again.
“Just what are you expecting to get from this?” She walked past Gistella and stood behind the princess. “Even if you won this battle in a spectacular manner, what’s the point? The next one, who is going to come, is going to be Rex. Do you think you have a chance against him?”
No.
Even though Princess Selene didn’t say anything, the answer should be clear enough by now.
“If it were him you faced, you’re not going to be given the liberty to talk like this,” Evelyn pressed, her voice tightening with urgency. “He doesn’t show mercy to those who’ve wronged him. No matter what. But I… I’m different.”
She pressed her hand against her own chest, her gaze unwavering.
“I believe people deserve a second chance if they truly mean to take it. Spare your people this slaughter. Swallow your pride this once—work with me,” Evelyn continued, wanting to make Princess Selene see clearly the golden opportunity before her. “I promise you, there can be a future. For you, and everyone who follows you.”
Princess Selene clenched her hands into fists.
Her shoulders were shaking.
It was hard to do exactly what Evelyn was suggesting, no matter how good the deal was.
Seeing her breaking, Evelyn didn’t give her anytime to contemplate, “I will guarantee that the Scarlet Banes Kingdom would not be under the rule of a tyrant. I will talk to him about your concerns, and help find a common gro—”
Rumble!
ROAR—!
A thunderous roar rumbled through the entire cathedral.
Evelyn and Gistella snapped their heads to the roar’s direction, sensing an enormous aura crashing onto the battle out of nowhere. An aura so massive and strong that it was even more oppressive and denser than Princess Selene’s aura.
An entity that could easily change the tide of war.
’Adhara, who is that? What’s happening outside?’ Evelyn asked telepathically.
Then, Adhara’s voice answered in her mind, ’It’s Sven! He got here so fast! I’ll try stalling him!’
Hearing this plastered a frown onto Evelyn’s face.
From the start, it was clear that they had to keep Sven out of the picture as they took down the rebel.
If he were a part of the battle, then the Great Army would be in trouble.
Sven’s arrival was the equivalent of Rex suddenly stepping onto the field for the Great Army—a shift that meant only one outcome for the other side. Now—Evelyn had to make Selene stand down, and she had to do it fast.
Anymore than this, then there would be no other choice but end this war through blood.
“I have already accepted death,” Princess Selene opened her mouth, not even reacting to Sven’s sudden arrival, which should be a good thing on her part. “It doesn’t matter to me if we’d lost and die later by his claws. In the end, all we could do was struggle. We rather die…”
Princess Selene turned around to look at Evelyn.
There was no malice on her face, only silent acceptance.
“I’ve been enslaved in the past. From the rise of the Ancient Humans until their fall. I knew better than anyone that the oppressor would never sympathize with the oppressed in the end,” Princess Selene let out a heavy exhale through her nose. “How can you even guarantee that the Royal Black Prince would not discriminate against us? It’s impossible.”
She walked forward, climbing the mound of bones again.
“Just leave—and let’s end this battle,” She said breathlessly. “Don’t worry, I won’t kill you or the other Silverstar Pack members. If you want to help, then tell him that. At least that way, he would spare my people from a gruesome death.”
Even though Princess Selene wanted to believe Evelyn, she simply couldn’t.
Her past was still fresh in her mind, and there was also no guarantee once she submitted to the empire.
It was a gamble.
And she didn’t want to gamble with her people’s honor and loyalty, it’s simply not worth it enough.
“Come on, Evelyn,” Gistella grabbed her arm and pulled. “There’s no use speaking to her again.”
She pulled Evelyn away, intending to bring her back to safety.
Since Sven is involved, Gistella was slightly nervous that she might not be able to protect Evelyn well.
A few steps away, Evelyn pulled back and firmed her ground.
“What about the Great Luna?!” She shouted.
Hearing this, Princess Selene shook her head in her ascent.
She couldn’t believe how persistent Evelyn was in achieving a peaceful end to this war.
“Can the Great Luna not soothe her Alpha, the Werewolf Origin?” She continued. “Can she not guide—the Werewolf Origin to a better path? Calm his anger and help him see a better way? In case you forgot, that’s exactly what she did at the Massacre of Inklaus!”
Tap—!
Princess Selene’s step halted abruptly, and her eyes widened in complete shock.
“I can do it, too,” Evelyn said confidently. “I can convince Rex to look past this and start over.”
Princess Selene looked over her shoulder—staring at Evelyn in confusion, “How did you know about the Massacre of Inklaus?”
Knowing that the question was coming, Evelyn smirked.
All she needed to do was to make Princess Selene believe, and this is the best way to do it.
She then pointed at her moon earrings, ones that Princess Selene only now realized.
“How do you think I know…?”
“G-Great Luna?!”
