The Martial Unity - Chapter 3384: Underutilized Dominance

Chapter 3384: Underutilized Dominance
Rui simply stared at her as his senses poured over her body while his mind sense evaluated the brainwaves that were coming from her.
Thankfully, the true world was not yet aware of the mind sense that Martial Artists of the Upper Realms possessed, giving him a systemic advantage in negotiations. From what he understood, this was an advantage that only Martial Artists possessed out of all the pathwalkers in the world.
That was why he could tell that she was being quite sincere when communicating with him regarding her request to him in exchange for her information. Unfortunately, the mind sense of the Martial Mind was hardly infallible. The truth was that there were ways, including self-hypnosis, that could alter the results that his mind sense got from the person he was looking at.
He studied her with a curious expression, sizing her up and down while his sharp eyes pierced into hers.
“…How confident are you that your information can help me achieve the goal I seek?” Rui asked her. “And what gives that confidence?”
“I know the information I have can help you demolish the War Coalition of Kiriket because it has to do with the Dragon Emperor himself,” she replied. “If you want to destroy the Coalition, you will need to defeat Lord Shenlong himself, and I possess information that can help anyone, but especially you.”
Her words sounded appealing, but he didn’t simply leap at what she offered mindlessly.
Rui heaved a sigh. “I will get back to you on the matter. For now, I’ll have to get back. But before I do…”
His eyes sharpened.
“You don’t specifically want the Empress to die as much as you want the Hlakaschken Trade Empire not to be aligned against the Kandrian Empire, correct? You wouldn’t mind if the Kandrian Empire and the Hlakaschken Trade Empire made peace and your nation returned to neutrality?”
“…I suppose that would be an acceptable outcome as well,” she murmured thoughtfully. “However, it won’t be possible without killing the Empress. She has decided to align herself with the Evolutionary Army and the Tekvorian Federation publicly. It will be nigh impossible to get her to do a one-eighty on that stance; it would reflect poorly on her and our nation.”
“If everything you have told me proves to be true and if she truly is unwilling to change, then I will assassinate her,” Rui declared. “But only if everything you have said is true.”
He got up, giving the druid one last deep look.
“Don’t forget what I have said. If I find out that you have tried to deceive me, I will be pissed, I promise you. Stay honest, and we can both get what we want.”
WHOOSH
Just like that, he disappeared.
His presence
The Whisperer found herself alone in her dimly lit underground office, heaving a sigh to herself as her hand went to her heart.
She had projected a facade of composure and relaxation, but in reality, she was quite terrified of the man who had sat opposite her. She was not delusional enough to believe that she had any right to speak to him in the manner that she did, if not for his grace.
“…He didn’t use his Authority of Alpha against me,” she murmured with a hint of confusion and uncertainty.
It was well known that therianthropes were vulnerable to the Authority. It was how the Dragon Emperor came to control so much of a continent as vast as Kiriket, spanning the area of a large planet in and of itself.
The moment she had realized who the man was who had infiltrated her base, she had already resigned herself to becoming a slave. Authority of Alpha could certainly be resisted, provided that the gap between the user and the target wasn’t large.
Rui had hidden his strength extremely well, resembling just another young man in his early twenties, but she knew that he was in a league by himself and among the other top ten powerhouses in the world. She knew that he was among the powerhouses in this world that possessed enough individual might to alter the destiny of the world.
Compared to someone like that, she was just a big fish in a small pond in the intelligence community. Her unorthodox methods centered around her racial talents gave her notoriety, but in reality, her influence didn’t go much beyond Grinolia Island. She didn’t possess even the slightest ability to resist his Authority, and yet, much to her shock, he didn’t try to enslave her with his voice.
He even effectively treated her like an equal in the partnership, even if he insisted that they weren’t equals. He appeared dead set on compensating her with value commensurate with the information provided to her, just like any other customer who would make use of her services.
“What a waste of power…” she couldn’t help but voice her true impression of him.
If she possessed the power he did, she would do with it much more than he did. She had spied on him and his partner from the moment they set foot on Grinolia Island, or even before, through the fish in the sea.
They both acted like they were regular people, much to her shock, frolicking around the city like they were tourists on a date. He went out of his way to compensate people he purchased goods from with his own power, while not using his power in any way that would make it even worth having.
She had never seen a powerhouse like him.
It made her feel silly about taking herself so seriously with all the pittance of power and influence she had compared to him.
“Huff…” she shook her head. “I need to get some rest.”
It had been a brief conversation, but it had tired her out quite substantially, leaving her in need of rest. She just hoped that he would vet her information, however he deemed fit, before agreeing to her request. It was an unprecedented opportunity to procure the services of a powerhouse to achieve something that she wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.
