The Mirror Legacy - Chapter 1337: Old Enemies (II)

Chapter 1337: Old Enemies (II)
Mount Xiaoshi.
An air of desolation hung over the sparsely vegetated slopes of the mountain range of Mount Xiaoshi. The rare torrential rain made it appear even more barren. Pale yellow rainwater flowed down the mountain gullies, washing away what little sand and soil there was. The sand and soil flowed eastward through the tributaries, quickly merging into the broken channel of the ancient Huai River and flowing into White River Stream.
Yet, several illusory glows of divine abilities floated within the dark torrential rain clouds. A man in a brown robe, with pale gray eyes, stood in the heavy night sky. His hands were clasped behind his back as he walked upon dark light formed by divine ability, his gaze sweeping across the mountain.
Mount Xiaoshi had once been the mountain gate of the Mifan Sect and was the source of the present Mifan Dao lineage. Although it had once been occupied by Buddhist cultivators, the mountains were still filled with broken walls and ruins that carried an ancient air, appearing even more desolate in the downpour.
After taking a single look, he pressed his palms together before his chest and exhaled a strand of dark yellow light that spread across the area. He focused on circulating his divine ability, as though searching for and calculating something.
On the other side stood a woman in red robes, her features somewhat youthful. She stood half a step behind him, her head slightly lowered in a display of respect, and spoke in a low voice, “Lord Kuiqi… have you gained anything?”
This woman was naturally Daoist Master Zhugong. She hailed from the outer-sea and cultivated Earth Virtue. In her early years, she had also been labeled a devil cultivator. Now, facing a cultivator of the Supreme Yang Dao lineage, she was naturally very deferential.
The man in brown robes had a resolute expression on his face. His gaze remained fixed on the mountain as he shook his head and spoke, “I cannot determine it clearly. Let us wait a bit longer. In any case, the Northern Buddhists will not escape… There may even be more than one group.”
Daoist Master Zhugong immediately felt troubled, fear showing on her face. She clearly knew this concerned the matter of Qi Wang’s Profound Heaven Hearing[1] and said softly, “What are we to do? If it truly is those people of Pijia[2], how could we withstand them with only two early stage Purple Mansion Realm cultivators? If something were to happen, it would be earthshaking…”
“With just them?” Daoist Master Kuiqi was clearly far calmer than she was. He even frowned slightly in irritation, evidently harboring little fondness for Zhugong in his heart. However, out of regard for Tinglan and because this was a critical moment, he still spoke in a measured tone, “It is not just Pijia. Pijia alone could not accomplish this. Back then, Senior Zipei seized Metallic Essence from the hands of a group of monks, offending the veteran Maha Zhelu, who already possesses the strength of the late stage Purple Mansion Realm.
“I was not present at the time, so I do not know how many other factions were involved. If they all act together, that is when things truly become troublesome.”
Daoist Master Zhugong grew even more uneasy at this, her heart sinking immediately, Although Kuiqi appears mild on the surface, at heart he still carries the lofty arrogance of the Supreme Yang Dao lineage. He bears no goodwill toward me at all. Getting close to him will not lead to a good end.
She remained vigilant inwardly, yet her resolve to rescue Tinglan did not waver. At the moment, she had no choice but to follow this man, lowering her gaze and restraining her expression, while Kuiqi said in a calm, focused voice, “There is no need to worry too much. We have already arrived, and they will not be able to hide for long. Tinglan and Ning Wan will at most suffer some light injuries. These Buddhist cultivators all harbor their own schemes and will not dare tear things apart with my Supreme Yang Dao Lineage. Moreover, those two carry many treasures on them. Nothing serious will happen.”
Zhugong let out a deep sigh of relief. Kuiqi quickly released the radiance in his hand, as if dispelling some form of concealment, and began calculating with his fingers.
At that very moment, the torrential rain abruptly stopped. Endless multicolored light burst forth in the sky, transforming into a massive curtain of radiance that descended from above with overwhelming force. Daoist Master Kuiqi reacted instantly. The calculations in his hands dissipated at once, and a bronze sword flew out from his sleeve.
The bronze sword was iron blue in color, adorned with a golden tassel. Agile as a swallow, it shot skyward and temporarily held back the descending radiance.
Boom!
Dark light and multicolored radiance collided between heaven and earth, illuminating the surroundings with myriad hues and instantly dispersing the dark clouds.
Kuiqi’s voice turned icy, “Which Maha is present here?”
A rainbow like a blessed land appeared in the sky. Within it sat a solemn, majestic golden figure, a black serpent coiled around its body. A long, horse-like head, its eyes large and round, glowing pitch black, rose from its shoulders.
It opened its great mouth and laughed, “Daoist Friend Kuiqi! I have long heard of your great name!”
This Maha was truly hideous beyond comparison. Though it could terrify common folk, it was simply ugly in the eyes of cultivators of equal realm. Daoist Master Kuiqi glanced at it, a look of disgust appearing on his face as his expression grew even colder and he said, “So it is Maha Daisi. What is this? Instead of staying in that wretched place of yours, do you intend to block me?!”
Maha Daisi still wore a broad smile as he replied, “I have long heard your name and wished to exchange a few moves. I wonder whether your Great Kui Convergence Bronze Sword is more formidable, or my Kongsijiang Demon Bowl?”
A large purple bowl with a smooth surface appeared as he spoke. It was rimmed with dark violet edges, from which raging Karmic Fire poured forth.
“Daisi!”
Kuiqi was widely learned, but Zhugong had spent many years in the Eastern Sea and did not recognize these Buddhist cultivators. It was only now, upon seeing this iconic dharma artifact, that she recognized the figure before her, finally sorting out the cause and effect.
So it is yet another enemy forged by Daoist Master Zipei. She had deliberately prevented them from harvesting fate back then on the river, forcibly protecting Li Xuanfeng, causing many of their Master Monks to die, and making them lose face. This Maha has nurtured that hatred ever since.
“That Grand Daoist Master was far too domineering in her later years and made too many enemies. Now that she has passed away, retribution has finally arrived!”
Her heart chilled with fear, yet she saw Kuiqi sneer coldly as he drew his sword and leapt up, raising a swath of dark radiance. Divine ability flickered in midair as he shouted, “That haphazardly cobbled together treasure artifact of yours dares to compare itself with the spirit artifacts of my Xiukui lineage? Then let us try!”
The Xiukui Dao lineage was strange and ever changing, and he himself was equipped with spirit artifacts from head to toe. How could he fear this newly advanced Maha before him? He even believed there was a chance to injure Daisi and then proceed to search for Tinglan.
He felt no fear, but Zhugong felt her scalp go numb, unsure whether she should flee or stay. Before she could think further, numerous figures appeared on both sides amid swirling white mist. Many faced massive golden bodies with three heads and six arms, accompanied by waves of chanting, emerged one after another.
They were indeed the Merciful Ones of Maha Daisi!
These Merciful Ones were not as massive as the golden body in the sky, yet each bore a different expression as they gradually emerged from the great void, one after another.
“One, two… four, five…”
Five Merciful Ones!
Maha Daisi was newly advanced, and these five Merciful Ones were likely his entire foundation. Even if he had more, it would not be many. The depth of his hatred was obvious from how he had deployed them all.
Five Merciful Ones acting together was already enough to threaten her life!
Zhugong stood frozen in place, watching the five Merciful Ones appear one after another around her. There was none of Kuiqi’s imposing presence on her face, only utter distress, as waves of chill rose in her heart.
It’s over!
