Chapter 746: The Potential of Becoming the Greatest There Ever Was
Damian continued, “You can only have the answer when all people in our land have full-belly food, no worry for their children’s safety, no worry about where the food of tomorrow will come from. Give them knowledge—education. Make a place where the basic needs of people are met, and they will show you our bodies are not humanity’s strongest asset. It’s our mind—our ideas.”
“Still, you could have used a different method..” Lucian said.
“I need trusted people in all the dungeon towns to have control of traffic,” Damian explained.
“The army?” Einar asked.
“No. Once I have some things ready—some of the runic devices I’m working on—I’m planning to open all our dungeons, including the ones I found in the ocean, to the general public.” Damian revealed the last thing he had on his list. The reactions were as he expected.
“What!?”
“Are you insane?”
“That makes no.. Why?”
“Okay, there has to be some big, eye-opening reason behind this, right?”
Mostly it was Sam, Grace, and Evrin. With Einar adding things from the side. Soon they quieted down, then Souldealer said,
“Dungeons are what consolidate the power in charge. Without controlling who gets to enter and who doesn’t—all kinds of people could gain power and knowledge. Why would anyone serve the ruling authority anymore?”
Damian replied, “Because we will control what people get to keep. I will make a system that won’t allow suspicious people to enter. And power.. If it was that easy to transcend or go beyond, then they wouldn’t have been so rare. We will have all the knowledge and technologies before others—if we gather the best talent with the incentive of free dungeons to do research, give them the best tools and the best education with our own academy. No individual can surpass the level of innovation we can make as one united organization. Before arguing, just for a minute, forget about the risks and think about the benefits.. Do they make all our efforts worth it?”
All faces were deep in thought, just entertaining the what-if scenario.
Sam was first to mutter aloud his thoughts, “It would indeed end all territorial tensions, making our Sanctuary a unique nation in this world.”
“The occupation of the masses will see a big change—from farmers to warriors and explorers..” Evrin followed behind.
“Our market will flourish with items from hundreds of dungeons.. The wealth of Sanctuary will transcend all three countries combined,” Einar added.
“The biggest change will be the whole mainland’s focus shifting from all major cities to our Sanctuary. We will become the center of everything,” Souldealer said with wide eyes. “The warriors, researchers, merchants—even other countries’ lords coming to take a look—could be easily taken by us. The fastest growing nation in history..”
Damian gave a bit more flame to their imagination. “And let’s say I make some of the flying ships like Dreamlight, and our trusted people can cross oceans—exploring this world of ours at speeds no wooden ship could ever match..”
“Land!” Grace replied in an instant. Then followed with, “With your waygates connecting everything, as you said before, we will have more land than we’ll know what to do with.”
“A revolution in the mainland..” Lucian murmured, with an expression of seeing something too great to comprehend in her mind—Damian had no idea she could pull that off with her stoic persona.
Damian shook his head in reply. “A revolution in all of mankind. A chance to give history something more to write about than just strength and wars.”
“That is too ambitious, boy,” Souldealer said, standing up. “It scares me. But then again, I have not felt such excitement since my first time finishing our family dungeon.”
“It is not going to be easy, I know. And we all will have to play our part to the best of our abilities for it to be true one day and not be stained by people who don’t understand the meaning of taking a step forward,” Damian concluded in the end.
“Are we doing it? Like seriously doing it?” Einar asked twice.
Evrin shook her head, smiling. “I don’t think we can stop him from changing this world even if we tried.”
“You just say what we need to do, and it shall be done,” Lucian said, ever the soldier.
“Not just saving people and giving them shelter, but building a home better than the one they lost, huh?” Souldealer said.
Damian smiled. “Our mission will never change, but that doesn’t mean we have to remain less than others. We will save all those who wish for a shelter, and we will provide a home they could be proud of.”
The seven of them picked up their wine glasses and made a toast for the bright future. Damian did not shy away from telling them how much they would have to work for that to become reality—he was just doing it for the fun of it though. He already knew these were the people he could trust with his life. They would give their all to make this land a place unlike anything.
The day after, Damian gathered all the lords and declared the decisions taken by the highest three of the Sanctuary. Of course, it was not taken with much enthusiasm. But then again, they were lords and knights—they only cared about the shift of power.
Prince Leon, as Damian had expected, chose to take all those who would support him to the island. Surprisingly, not many followed behind—only those who could see themselves being very favored by the Prince and saw a good land for themselves in this new region followed. The sway of Souldealer was much more than even she herself expected.
Two days after that, Damian launched the biggest gathering of men in the history of Sanctuary. The land on which Sanctum and the stone keep were built was packed full with people. They were not only from the city of Sanctuary but all the people of the dungeon towns were also invited for the grand announcement that was about to take place.
