Chapter 629 – Tutorials And A Pick Up

I know I shouldn't tease him right now but it is too hard not to.
Beau looks like a joke and I know that Alanis probably is the one that put him up to this. Shit. Is this what it means to become a family man?
"Dude, you are begging for it right now,'' I exclaim, walking over to him.
"Just don't fucking say anything,'' he glares at me. Beau has no issues cussing in front of his kids. In fact, I think it is a habit that he has never been able to break.
Alanis wouldn't like that.
His son is holding him tightly and he hides his face away just as I get close enough to him. I know who it is immediately. Colin is the one that would be this shy. He is the one that wouldn't let anyone but his dads hold him.
"Hey Colin,'' I lean forward as he peeps at me through his right eye. He wants to engage. I can feel it but it is not so easy for him.
I know what it is like to be in your shell. I have handled in your shell before. It took a long time for Jabi to come out of his shell.
"Hi,'' he manages slowly. I like the kid.
"Don't you want to go play with your brother and friends?'' I ask him.
He shakes his head immediately. Colin understands everything and by everything, I mean everything. He is a smart kid but he doesn't like to talk.
"He is fine with his daddy,'' Beau blurts out, ruffling his hair in the process.
"Oh, don't you mean, bunny man,'' I tease because like I said, I can't help it. He looks so fucking ridiculous right now.
Beau rolls his eyes, probably choosing to ignore me "Where's Jabi?'' he asks once he notices that he is not in the crowd. I smile just thinking about him.
"He's in school, running a bit late but he promised to be here."
Jabi has a life outside the community. I have always wanted that for him but I never thought it was something that would be possible. Knowing the kind of power that his blood carried, I didn't want to have to look over our shoulders. That is the main reason why I wanted us to remain in the community. We would be in a safe space. We knew that we could always count on the people here.
It took a lot for us to come to terms with the fact that we would have to have a life. We couldn't live in hiding forever. At least, he can't. I don't mind the life we created in the community. I have done the whole living thing. Gone to the outside world. Had fun, I have done it all. Now, all that matters to me is this place and my family.
It is weird that I would become such a shut-in but I am okay with it.
I have Jabi.
"He is always out lately, I don't even see him anymore." Beau points out.
Beau was his biggest support when he wanted to go back to school. I wasn't on board at first but I couldn't refuse. Now I am okay with it.
Knowing that he has friends that are not in this community, knowing that he finally feels like he has a purpose in life is all that matters to me.
"Yeah, he has exams. It's a lot more than he thought he would be. He is on his way home though,'' I assure Beau because I know this is something that he needs to be present for. The only things that Jabi is not allowed to meet are the monthly Family dinners and the parties.
This is a party—in fact, it is a very important party to Beau.
"He better,'' Beau tells me with a serious expression.
Beau notices that Colin's attention is where the kids are "You wanna go to the bouncy house now?'' he asks him calmly. His tone is soft and sweet. I never thought I would describe Beau as sweet.
Colin nods slowly.
"I should take him to play.'' He tells me and walks away from me. I grab my phone from my pocket and there is a new message from Jabi. It is a response to my previous message asking him where he was.
Jabi: Running late. Tutorials went on forever.
I don't like his message because I miss him.
I dial his number and he answers immediately "When are you coming?'' I go straight to the point.
I can almost imagine him smiling "In class, answering your call,'' he adds.
I walk away from the noise of the music and to a corner close to the main house. The music lowers and I rest on the wall as I speak up "I miss you."
"I miss you too,'' he whispers.
"Should I come to pick you up?''
"I took your car." He reminds me.
I sigh, slowly running my hands th4rough my hair from the frustration "I could run over there. It will take me a couple of minutes and then we can come back here together."
I saw him this morning, I mean why do I miss him so fucking much? The other end of the line is silent but I wait because I know he is going to give in. just the way I have a weakness for him, he feels the same way about me.
"Uh, I am not done yet but why does this sound so appealing?'' he cries into the phone.
I smile.
Just as I called it.
"Because you miss me. You want me to come to you. Because you hate that you have to study while your man is here looking like a snack,'' I tease him.
He sighs again.
"I want to ask you what you are wearing right now but that is so cliché,'' he groans into the phone. His voice is still low and I can hear noises in the background.
"Come on, let me come to you,'' I beg him.
I wait for him to respond even though I already know what he is going to say.
"Come on then mister.''
I smile, happily.
