A Thousand Years Later
After resting and relaxing with his family, they each returned to their tasks.
Back in the Space-Time Lab, Maximus and his family began working on integrating Lazo’s biological factor into the micro-surveillance bot.
This time, instead of splitting up, Lily and the others joined the team.
Having more knowledge about the biological factor, they quickly integrated into the group.
Filled with excitement, they eagerly started to deduce the optimization path of the micro-surveillance bot.
Having found the direction of optimization, they thought they would have success in just a few thousand years.
However…
—
Thirty Thousand Years Later, the team was still in the dark.
They hadn’t progressed a single inch, beginning to feel hopeless, like a lost child in the dark.
“This is too hard.”
“Mechanical, Alchemy, and Biological Factors. Embedding them all into a single creation seems impossible.”
“Could we be in the wrong direction, Father?”
Luke, Sam, and even Lily were having headaches, having no idea how to move forward.
“You just need to be patient,” Hazel advised, seeing her children on the verge of breaking down.
“Your father hasn’t said anything yet. How can you give up so easily?” Angeline added, seeing their shaken confidence.
“Maximus spoiled you too much. A little difficulty and you’re already giving up?” Irene clicked her tongue, watching them lose focus.
“Alright, don’t rile up the kids. Let’s just concentrate on the work,” Denice said, calming the scene before an argument broke out.
“Oh, that’s right! Concentrate, we can do this!”
“Just keep thinking. Don’t stop. The answer must be right in front of us.”
Seeing their children cheer up, the four mothers couldn’t help but smile.
Though they also felt helpless, they couldn’t show it on their faces.
As mothers, they had to be the light, the ones who gave guidance and strength to their children.
Besides, having been with Maximus nearly their entire lives, what challenge had ever truly stopped them?
If tens of thousands of years weren’t enough, then a hundred thousand. If not that, a million.
They didn’t believe there was anything in this world that could stump them, especially not when they had their husband.
“It’s good to have you…” Maximus whispered, watching his wives lift their children’s spirits.
Tens of thousands of years were nothing compared to what they’d endured before.
But not gaining even a single clue on how to proceed was disheartening.
It felt like they were just wasting time, doing meaningless things.
Then again, if even the Archons hadn’t figured out how to use the remains of the Chaos Eater, what hope did they have in such a short period of time?
Even though they had a weakened biological factor version from Lazo, this wasn’t something they could just figure out in passing.
What they needed was enlightenment, a burst of inspiration that would lead them to the answer.
Unfortunately, even after tens of thousands of years and burning through hundreds of millions of plane origins, they still had nothing.
“Should I use my plane ability?” Maximus thought.
True path is divided into passive and active use.
The Passive use of the True Path gave him a general direction, a feeling of whether to head straight or go back.
Active use, however, revealed every detail that would eventually lead him to the result he sought.
From every action, every item, every word—even the slightest shift in wind and earth.
As long as Maximus could bear the cause and effect, he could find the perfect, shortest path to his goal.
Unfortunately, without complete control of the ability, it was like using his life as collateral.
Remembering how they were attacked by a special dark beast after he used the True Path in the Primordial Origin Realm, Maximus couldn’t help but shudder.
He might have been safe, but his family wasn’t.
If it hadn’t been for Zar, Paragon, Sira, and Nyx, he couldn’t imagine the devastation they would’ve suffered.
As for using the True Path earlier to deduce the optimization route for the micro-surveillance array, it had only given him a vague direction, so he wasn’t heavily affected.
At worst, the dark beast’s invasion of the Aeon Plane had tripled for a short time.
Taking a deep breath, he decided to hold out a little longer to see if inspiration would come.
—
Unfortunately, after another thirty thousand years, they were still stuck.
By now, his wives and children had grown numb, mechanically studying Lazo’s biological factor.
Even the breaks every ten thousand years didn’t seem to help. The weight of the problem was simply grinding down their minds.
“Let’s stop for a while. Follow me back to the Shadow Void Land,” Maximus said with a sigh, finally giving in.
Since he couldn’t think of a solution, he’d cheat.
Instead of wasting more time, it was better to face the danger head-on.
He was also curious to see what kind of price his curse-level plane ability would extract this time.
He was stronger now. He didn’t believe anything in the Aeon Plane could truly threaten him anymore.
“What do you mean, Father? Are we giving up?”
Unlike their earlier numbness, they looked unwilling and frustrated.
Although the process had been torturous, they didn’t want to give up.
“What are you talking about? I’m going to use my secret ability to find inspiration.”
“Huh? Secret ability?”
“What secret ability, Father?”
“It’s called a secret for a reason. I can’t tell you. Not now.”
He wasn’t sure why, but the passive effect of the True Path was warning him not to reveal the details of his plane ability.
It seemed to involve massive cause and effect, beyond what he could currently endure.
Not wanting to implicate his family, he chose to keep it to himself.
“Then why do we have to go to the Shadow Void Land? Can’t you use it here?”
“Tsk. Don’t ask too many questions. If your father says we’re going back, then we’re going back.”
“We’re just curious!”
“Oh~”
Hearing their playful banter, Maximus smiled.
It seemed that just knowing he had a solution brought their spirits back to life.
“Let’s go back. It’s time we exercised our bodies…”
