Chapter 858: The Laws of the Central Chaos
After his investigation, Maximus finally understood the purpose of the barrier.
It was the strongest defensive force in the entire Planar Chaos Region.
According to the myths he had gathered, it was once used to repel one of the mightiest chaotic creatures, the Chaos Eater.
The Chaos Eater, a suspected tier 14 being, was repelled by this barrier?! What a Joke!
Reading such myths, Maximus scoffed, dismissing them as mere rumors.
Though he admitted the barrier was formidable, he doubted it could block a tier 14 being.
Even the existence of a tier 14 being was just a myth, how could a barrier from a remote void chaos region possess the power to artificially create such a defense?
Without Myriad Essence, the limit for any being, treasure, or anything else was only at the tier 13 realm.
Maximus didn’t fully believe the Chaos Eater was a tier 14 being, much less that this flimsy barrier could stop one.
In today’s times, such a limit wasn’t something a group of Archons could simply break.
Still, a barrier tough enough to block even his gaze had to be a pinnacle creation of the Planar Chaos Region.
Setting aside his skepticism, he could only offer admiration for their ability to create such magnificence.
According to his findings, the barrier served not only to protect but also to divide the Central Chaos Region into two.
Inside, it was a paradise for Tier 13 planes and Archons.
It held the most concentrated resources in the entire Planar Chaos Region, with Chaos Energy a hundred times denser than outside.
Brimming with rich resources and abundant energy, it amassed about 90% of the chaos region’s power.
Outside the barrier, besides keeping dangers at bay, it also barred any Tier 12 plane and all foreign powerhouses from entry.
Unless invited by an Overseer, they could only wander the periphery and scrape by.
Seeing such an intriguing structure, Maximus couldn’t help but smile.
But suddenly, his reckless probing of the barrier’s secrets seemed to alarm the guards maintaining it.
“Who are you? Where are you from? How dare you extract information? Don’t you know that it’s forbidden to use your path of law in here?” Zuri, an Archon Planar Warden, demanded, sending a wave of pressure toward Maximus.
Unlike the Outer Planar Chaos Region, a lawless wilderness, the Central Planar Chaos Region prohibited the use of any power beyond Absolute Rank.
Unless they were Overseers, even a tier 13 Archon had to follow the rules.
Seeing Maximus blatantly disregard these laws and wildly extract information, Zuri could only marvel at his audacity.
“Oh? There’s such a rule? I didn’t know,” Maximus shrugged carelessly.
Even if he had known the rule beforehand, he wouldn’t have cared.
“Presumptuous!”
Furious at Maximus’s blatant disregard, Zuri clenched his fists, preparing to capture him and send him to the Planar Tribunals.
“Freeze,” Maximus quickly used his power, not wanting to implicate the Aeon Plane behind him.
Suddenly, as if bound by chaos itself, Zuri’s power, blood, and spirit stagnated.
“Y-you! Wh-who are you?” Zuri stammered, resisting the chaotic force with all his might, desperate to know Maximus’s identity.
By his estimation, Maximus was only a tier 12 being, yet he could suppress a full-fledged Archon. Zuri feared he might have fallen into a trap.
Only an Overseer could suppress and seal him so completely.
“No need to struggle. I don’t want a fight. I’m new here and unfamiliar with the rules,” Maximus explained, slowly easing the pressure.
With only 127 Archons in the Planar Chaos Region, thirteen of whom were enemies, Maximus didn’t want to reduce their numbers further.
Soon, as if a mountain had lifted from his chest, Zuri stepped back warily.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Zuri asked again.
“I’m Maximus Shadowcrest, from the Outer Planar Chaos Region. I just arrived, so I don’t know the rules.”
“Outer Planar Chaos Region? There are still people there?”
Millions of years ago, the dark beast tide had worsened into an unsolvable disaster, severing all news from the outside world.
This was also why no one had arrived despite the Paragon’s relentless calls for backup before.
“Besides us, there should be nothing left now…” Maximus sighed.
After advancing to the Overlord Realm, he had planned to conquer the surrounding planes around the Aeon Plane.
Unfortunately, it was too late. Beyond some ruins, the area around the Aeon Plane was a desolate wasteland.
Maximus guessed that those with any ability had already escaped, while those without had fallen to destruction.
If not for him, the Aeon Plane would have met a similar fate.
Meanwhile, Zuri barely reacted to the news of the outer Planar Chaos Region’s devastation.
As long as they survived and let the dark beast tide pass, trillions of epochs would be enough to birth new generations of planes and beings.
“What do you intend to do now?” Zuri asked, confirming Maximus was truly from the Outer Chaos Region.
While waiting for an answer, he began to consider inviting Maximus to the inner barrier.
“Me? I don’t know. But I need Myriad Energy,” Maximus said with a smile, looking at the prosperous central chaos region.
Myriad Energy existed in all beings.
Unfortunately, its concentration was too minuscule in beings below the tier 13 realm, making it inefficient for him to hunt alone.
But in the Central Chaos Region, with millions of planes and countless powerhouses, hunting dark beasts for their Myriad Energy seemed feasible.
Planning to turn the entire Central Region into his military base, he could not only gather the Myriad Energy he needed but also curb the rampant dark beast tide.
Turning to Zuri, he decided to meet the so-called Overseers for a discussion.
Though powerful, he wasn’t arrogant. As a tier 12 being, he knew he couldn’t dominate everyone alone.
It wasn’t fear of the Overseers or the hundred-plus Archons, but doing everything himself was too inefficient.
Hoping to build an alliance or a partnership of mutual interest, he knew he had to start with the Overseers.
“Call your Overseers here. I want to talk to them about something,” Maximus said, his tone carrying an irresistible command.
“Y-yes,” Zuri nodded, feeling the familiar pressure return.
