The World Dragon's Heir - Chapter 536: Survived The Night

Chapter 536: Survived The Night
Before he was even fully awake, Dominic had shifted to a fully human appearance, and the golden glow had faded from his eyes.
Alexis did wonder if he knew just how far from human is transformed state was becoming because he was never fully aware when it was active, and he mostly operated on instinct.
But that did answer some of the questions that she hadn’t gotten to answer before he forcibly removed her from her clothing last night.
He was definitely not coherent for those twelve hours of carnage.
Either because of the injury or the anger, he had gone feral and simply rampaged until he ran out of things to kill. That was so incredibly on brand for him that she should not have been at all surprised.
The fact that he had managed to get through twelve hours without involving his new partner in crime was a minor miracle.
She did manage to find him at the end, though.
Even when no other mage could get a lock on him through the storm, she had managed to open a portal directly to him, and then promptly lost contact with everyone else, and the ability to come back.
For a moment, Alexis wondered if Amie might also be dragonkin. She didn’t have any of the features to suggest it, but everyone acknowledged that she was not human, despite appearances.
Alexis realized that she had gotten sidetracked from her anger at Dominic for vanishing like that, but she was in no condition to be getting out of bed.
Even when she tried to move her legs to the side of the bed, they were shaky, and her whole body ached.
This might need two healing spells.
“Thank the Gods for lay on hands.” She muttered as she activated the spell.
Dominic smiled. “That is a wonderful idea. Why don’t we chase everyone back out, and I can practice new ways to lay my hands?”
Alexis grabbed him by the horns and kissed him, then pushed him back onto the bed.
“Dave, go find Ingrid, we will be up soon. Anne, please arrange the breakfast dishes and my outfit for the day.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“You’re no fun in the morning, you know that?” Dominic asked.
“And you have a whole lot of paperwork to fill out.
Advisor Trionne informed me just before you returned that they would like you to fill out a possible accidental undead creation incident form, and there are questions from our forced in Dagos about just what happened during the storm.
And about why they’re finding blood soaked Manor houses all over the country.” She retorted.
“If nobody caught me there, it was not my fault.”
“Really now? I suspect that will not work to get you out of writing the reports any better than it works to get you out of all the other paperwork that you dodged after pretending to be blown up.”
Dominic sighed. “I’m not forgiven, am I?”
“Not even close to it. Now, go do the reports for Advisor Trionne before she starts to harass my brother again. Then you can do his reports for your father-in-law, and the ones for the Duchy’s own internal recordings.
And once all that is done, you can go check on Dave and see how he’s doing. The two of them were severely burned as they couldn’t react as fast as you did, and they were caught in the blast.”
“Will they recover? I wasn’t certain if they had survived at all.”
Alexis nodded. “They will. It will be a long time, thanks to the fire damage, but they’re making progress with the help of the healers and the Royal Guards.
Everyone who can heal has been going to help them out.”
“Will do. Don’t worry, I’ve got this, and I won’t run off and dump the paperwork on you again.”
Alexis winked at him. “Well, it’s good to know that you missed me enough to stay for the hard part.”
The maid chuckled as she prepared Alexis’ outfit for the day, and Dominic smacked her on the backside as she got up to go to the shower.
“Her highness seems to have mostly forgiven you for scaring her.” The veiled maid noted.
“No, not at all. I will pay for that at some point in the future. However, she’s not going to murder me in my sleep, which is a good sign.
It means that she still cares.
Now, what did you bring up for breakfast? It smells delicious.”
“Breakfast today is scones with creamy sausage gravy in the Amer style, with a side of eggs and fruit.”
Dominic ate while Alexis showered, and pretended not to notice the glares that the maid was giving him over the number of visible bruises left on her body, even after she had healed herself.
He could even still see the faint outline of handprints on her hips where he must have grabbed her too hard.
He didn’t recall any complaints, though.
Now that she was out, Dominic rushed into the shower to clean up, and change into a set of mage robes. He was expecting enough hassles today without uncomfortable clothing, and the robes were formal enough for a Duke to wear nearly anywhere.
Ingrid and Trionne were both waiting outside the door when he left his room, trying not to laugh.
“The troll says that you broke everything last night. Should I congratulate you, or pass along my condolences to your next of kin?”
“Neither, if you don’t want to have to do the second tomorrow.”
The old Techno Witch chuckled as Ingrid went inside to repair the bed.
“Let’s go to your office. This shouldn’t take too long, but there are some emerging concerns from the teams we have been sending to Dagos to do relief work.”
“You know that I will need a report on why Shersdonia, who doesn’t share a border or a military aid alliance with Dagos, is sending these forces, right?”
“Of course. It’s part of our agreement with Axbridge. They are concerned about the instability along their border, and are hoping to avoid a full invasion, so we are serving as a neutral party.
It’s all very much legitimate.”
Somehow, Dominic very much doubted that.
