The World Dragon's Heir - Chapter 537: Trionne’s Tracking

Chapter 537: Trionne’s Tracking
“Alright, we will start with why you need a report from me, other than the fact that you simply thrive off gossip.” Dominic began once he was seated in his office with Advisor Trionne.
The old woman smiled at him. “Oh, this is going to be so much fun.
Alright, I will start with the parts that you likely don’t remember. First off, when the spell built up, it would have supercharged your body with mana. Any spell that condenses mana in the area their body occupies does that to Dragonkin.
It makes breaking wards both fun and exciting.
However, I highly doubt that anyone ever taught you how to deal with it, so you would have almost certainly let it build up until you went feral.”
She paused as a look of realization crossed Dominic’s face. He clearly remembered feeling the spell coming, but he didn’t realize that it was having an effect of that sort on him.
“That’s why dragonkin usually keep their internal mana empty. It might take longer to cast spells, but if someone accidentally floods you with mana, there is a much smaller chance that you will kill someone.
Now, when you threw yourself through the portal, you would have already been halfway feral.
Then, you rampaged through the mages in the first location you landed at.
That part isn’t surprising.
What did become problematic is that some idiots from the Ormsted Sect were trying to break the curse left by the Dragon King, using you as a medium.
They’ve been at it for a while, and the King didn’t see much harm in it, as the spell was starting to collapse anyhow. However, in this particular instance it is relevant because they are Necromancers, and using a Necromantic counter curse to offset the blood magic of the original effect.
Now, blood magic and Necromancy seem similar from the outside, but they are not. So, they applied Necromancy to a Blood Curse, and that is a bad combination.
If you’re planning to start going genocidal on the affected population, that is.
When you started killing people, it caused them to die with unresolved hatred, which resonated with both sorts of magic.
The blood magic tried to destroy them to fulfil the conditions of its dissolution. But the Necromantic Magic naturally wanted to help them get vengeance for what they viewed as an unjust death.
So, with the soul stripped away, but the magic lingering, many of them rose as undead of various sorts.
Mostly zombies and skeletons, given the damage to their bodies.
However, many of them were mages, so there is a large chance that you may have accidentally created at least one Lich or Revenant. If they are loose, they will be unanchored and absolutely insane, due to the soul damage.
And as Shersdonia is under the Necromancer King, we have a whole government department dedicated to that, and an official policy regarding reports on the accidental creation of undead.
So, what I need to do is cast a tracing spell on you that will tell me where you have been in the last few days.
That is the only way that we can be sure that we have sent Necromancers to hunt down any loose undead before they become a plague. There are already going to be enough in the north, due to the flooding combined with the collapsing curse.
We don’t need them popping up all over the country.”
“Alright, I suppose that makes sense. Many of those spots might not exist at the moment, with the flooding. But I’m happy to sit here while you cast a trace.”
Trionne began her work, placing a dozen different devices in a three-dimensional pattern between her and Dominic. Then, she frowned and added another dozen.
“Two per hour should be enough to get them all, right? Where is the first place that you actually remember being?”
“Lytesin.”
“Right, so if we get to Lytesin, I know that we got them all. Alright, here we go. Sit still so that I don’t have to adjust the targeting. No matter what you see, don’t get up out of your seat, or you’ll mess up the whole recording.
Rest assured, we can watch the highlights later.”
Dominic settled into his chair to get comfortable. The Techno Witch could watch the replay if she wanted. He was happy not knowing what went on when he was feral.
It was a bit like having someone track your steps when you were blackout drunk. You knew that nothing good was coming from the discoveries.
“Alright, here is the first location. As expected, along the west coast of Dagos, and the next four as well. Now, where is this?
What were you doing in Chawleigh? Oh, that’s not good, that’s a lot of bodies. So many bodies. Are you using precast spells?”
“I’m reasonably certain that I am lighting mortars off my horns.
I can’t see from my angle, but I had over a thousand of them in my storage items when I left, and I was out when I woke up in Lytesin.”
The old Witch pinched the bridge of her nose.
“Alright, that explains a lot of things. Let’s just hope that the King of Chawleigh doesn’t figure out who did that because that building you blew up is a national historic site.
Now, you’re back in Dagos, that’s a good sign. You must have followed someone who tried to run to family outside the country.
Oh, now we’re onto the mountain of corpses and the rifle in the butt part.
That’s a classic, I will make duplicate recording orb for that.
Now you’re… where is that?
Oh, you’re right, the far north of Dagos is completely flooded. I thought that you’d gone on a mid-ocean rampage. Had me concerned for a second.
And this is near Felborham, back on the north coast. It looks like they’re trying to teleport away, but you’re chasing them. That’s eight small towns in a row, and… I hope this is Lytesin, or we’re out of spells.
Was Lytesin a basement full of mages and a blood ritual?”
Dominic nodded, while Trionne finished her work. “Yes, that is Lytesin. Goodness, but you were busy. It’s going to be a shock if there is anyone alive outside the city walls of Felborham at this point. I will dispatch necromancers to the region right away.
If anywhere, that’s the most likely spot to have had undead form.”
