The World Dragon's Heir - Chapter 677: The General’s Resources

Chapter 677: The General’s Resources
General Marshall nodded. “We have stockpiled a lot of the more common spell gems, as well as some of the ones that we were hoping to trade.
The idea was that if we managed to recruit more mages, or even capable soldiers, into the group, we would have what they needed to get ahead of the average and safely fight at least the Goblins right away.
The problem is that we don’t have any Weaponsmiths, so we couldn’t arm them.
Now that we’ve got a bundle of spears, that’s less of an issue.
However, that’s only going to get us so far. I’m sure you’re aware of how hard Ogres are on equipment. No matter what you do, they’re difficult to kill.”
Dominic frowned. “That is true. They’re magic resistant, thick-skinned, excessively strong. The only good way to deal with them is a specialized ranged weapon. Either oversized crossbows or rifles.”
“I don’t suppose that you have either of those?”
Dominic turned to Alexis and Jack, who was standing behind her. Both shrugged, and gave him a ’go ahead’ gesture.
“In fact, we do. I developed a variation of a specialized Ogre Hunting Rifle for the Cygnian Army. That’s what we’ve been hesitant to trade to a foreign force. But given the circumstance, a few of them should be fine, and we can trade you a whole batch of mana revolvers.
One or two Rare Grade rifles is enough to effectively deal with a small Ogre force, if you’ve got pikemen to keep them at bay.
The trick is that they need to use solid shot, as the Ogres are magic resistant. So, they’re a complex magitech weapon and need either a built-in munitions creation magitech orb, or the user needs to know the spell.” Dominic explained.
“We are willing to purchase both.”
“I suspected that you might be. I will have to make them, which will take a few days. However, I don’t believe that your guards will object to staying at the barracks for a few days.
Larry makes a lovely soup.”
“A few days certainly won’t hurt. We can’t stay gone too long, though. Our force has moved into Axbridge so that I could travel safely by portal. But that means the territories that we usually protect are unguarded, and our people are unlikely to find much food in the desert.
At least in the badlands, there are edible cacti.”
Dominic nodded. “I am familiar with the region, I travelled through it a few years ago. Don’t worry, I will stay up the evening to get your payment ready, and then we will get you headed back home as soon as possible.
We also have mages who are intimately familiar with the safe areas in the region near the border, if you should have issues trying to return.
Just take your time and enjoy Wistover.
If you would like to do some shopping for artisan goods, I can have one of the staff accompany you. Silver is silver, and our locals aren’t so particular that they won’t take foreign coins.”
That was a shock to the General. It was rare that anyone but the Merchant’s Guild took foreign coins, as locals wouldn’t know what was tampered with.
However, with the locals mostly being from Dagos and Axbridge, all the coins were foreign, except what came in from the Guild in recent weeks. Not that anyone had brought much money with them, but that wasn’t the point.
“That actually sounds interesting. I would like to see more of Wistover, if you’re sure that it’s wise for me to be out exploring.”
The General gave a pointed look at his wings, and Dominic shrugged.
“We’ve already got Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, and a fine assortment of Sorcerers. One dragonkin with his wings out can’t cause that much chaos. Besides, if we send a staff member with you, everyone already knows who they are.
The uniforms are a dead giveaway, even before seeing their face.”
Dave laughed quietly. Nobody saw the faces. That was the point of the faceless women.
“Actually, there is no need to have one of the trolls accompany him, I will go along to keep our guest company.” Lord Blackwell insisted, deliberately misinterpreting their intentions.
“Take one of the maids as well, in case you need someone to carry your shopping.” Alexis insisted.
“Or course.
General Marshall, shall we? By the time that we get back, dinner should be ready.”
That was enough to assure the dragonkin that today was going to be a good day. But by the time that they reached the edge of the garden two of the Daves, one from Wistover and one guest, had moved to join them.
Anyone leaving the Manor needed an escort.
Every Dave knew that.
Alexis laughed as Lord Blackwell rolled his eyes at the enthusiastic talk of the soup being prepared for lunch, and then poked Dominic.
“So, how much of that do you have to make?”
Dominic shrugged. “I will need to cast the pistols, and build the rifles from parts. If I get them four of the Ogre Hunting rifles and twenty pistols, that should just about cover our need for spell gems, right?
I don’t want to miss out on essentials, and I can make more pistols if we need them.
The rifles will only take me a few hours each to assemble and polish, making them in the new style. I’m thinking long barrelled, as they want to snipe the Ogres from a distance.
Oh, I should send someone to the Techno Wizards and get some scopes.
Those make it so much easier on the users, especially when they’re not as trained as our lads.”
“That’s an excellent idea. If they’re actually going to make good use of the rifles, they need to be able to actually hit the Ogres. Just make sure that they come with a [Create Munitions] orb built in, or they’re never going to manage to practice with them.”
Dominic laughed. “Got it. I’ll put some fire damage and mana regeneration on the pistols, and stick to making the rifles self-loading.
Who knew that we would find the perfect customer for the Ogre Hunting Rifles?”
