This Beast-Tamer is a Little Strange - Chapter 786: Jade Vs Cassian

Chapter 786: Chapter 786: Jade Vs Cassian
Vauleth stood tall, wings smouldering, breath unsteady and choppy. The wooden dragon was injured, but it still possessed tremendous offensive ability.
Unfortunately, he had no more energy to give. Not to Vauleth. And the dragon also looked like it was unable to burst out with anything more.
And yet, in that moment, Kain smiled.
He had burned and removed the pesky Verdara inheritance from all but two of Cassian’s dragons (the Dream and Coronaflow Dragons)
He had revealed Cassian’s Gift.
He had dealt real damage to the wooden dragon, and the Solar and Nightmare Dragons were practically out of commission.
Even if he lost—
He had made sure that the next person to face Cassian wasn’t going in blind or at a severe disadvantage.
“Your turn, Jade,” he whispered, voice hoarse.
Then he closed his eyes and let himself be carried off the stage by the medical staff as his defeat was announced by the referee.
The crowd applauded his efforts as he came down the stage, he had put up exceptional back-to-back fights against Isolde and then Cassian, who were both older and higher in level than him. Even if he ultimately lost against Cassian, many people would still probably consider Kain to be the MVP fighter of the day, and if not number 1, than definitely in the top 3.
Then the announcer’s voice rang out again, clear and crisp:
“And now, the final of the tournament—Jade Everbloom of Dark Moon College versus Cassian Lysander of First Celestial.”
Kain was already being helped off the stage by medical staff, his legs shaky, his face pale. But his eyes found Jade’s. They didn’t speak. They didn’t need to. His job was done.
Now it was hers.
The audience buzzed with anticipation. Kain had exposed Cassian’s trump cards, eliminated the those strange vines from multiple dragons, and even landed serious damage on that wooden dragon. Many believed he had gone beyond expectations. Even now, commentators praised his performance as one of the best showcases of the tournament.
“To think he withstood that pressure and even forced Cassian to activate his Gift,” one announcer said with disbelief.
“And more than that,” the other added, “he damaged multiple high-grade contracts, and disrupted the battlefield state for Jade. If she wins today, it will be in large part thanks to him.”
The camera panned across the stage. The battlefield was still littered with debris. The vines from the wooden dragon’s domain twisted in the air, sluggish and weakened.
The Solar Dragon was slumped behind the Coronaflow Dragon, still protected but clearly unable to reenter the fight unless to burn the last of its energy in a single blow.
The Nightmare Dragon was missing, one couldn’t be sure if it had concealed itself in the shadows or been recalled by Cassian.
The Ethereal Dragon had returned to a standby position, ready to re-enter the fight. Despite having the Verdara inheritance ’cleansed’ from itself, it—along with the Dream and Coronaflow dragons—were among those in the best condition among Cassian’s contracts.
The Dream Dragon still flickered around the field like a will-o’-wisp, its mind pressing down on any resistance it sensed.
The wooden dragon loomed near center stage, bark scarred, and eyes glowing.
Cassian stood, expression unreadable. He still radiated regality, but something about his posture was stiffer now. The curse marks were hidden again, but there had been flickers of pain he hadn’t entirely concealed. And while his gift had turned the tide, the price he paid was not small. Perhaps the use of a domain wasn’t the only thing to activate Soreia’s curse.
Across the field, Jade stepped onto the arena.
The cheers that erupted were thunderous. Not out of patriotism, but respect. Jade wasn’t loud. She wasn’t flashy. But anyone who had watched her fights knew she was lethal.
She stopped at the edge of the ruined platform and let her gaze sweep across the battlefield. Her expression remained calm, neutral. But behind her stillness was a mind already racing through possibilities.
Cassian has four dragons still in play, she thought.
>The Solar and Nightmare Dragons were functionally out for the most part
>The Ethereal Dragon’s energy regeneration is gone but can fight still
>The wooden dragon is damaged, but still dangerous.
>The Coronaflow and Dream Dragons are still in near perfect condition, with those strange vines still replenishing their energy.
Then she raised her arm.
Six streaks of light erupted across the field. Five lights were blue, and one was green.
The Shadowstrike Jaguar landed first. A sleek, muscular frame cloaked in rippling shadows. Its glowing amber eyes fixed on Cassian with silent hunger. It slinked low to the ground, vanishing in and out of view.
Next came the Thunderfang Tiger. Orange fur crackled with jagged yellow stripes, electricity snapping around its fangs. It roared once—a sound that cracked the air like a thunderclap.
Then the Earthshatter Lion, golden-maned and massive. Its paws hit the ground with enough force to create hairline fractures. Its eyes were slow to move but burned with judgment.
The Viperfang Lioness appeared beside it, smaller but no less threatening. Venom glistened along her claws. Her tail flicked, calculating, sharp.
The Windstrike Cheetah came next. It didn’t land—it ran. Wind gusted across the stage as it circled her team in a blur, finally skidding to a stop at Jade’s side.
Finally—her sixth, and only green-grade contract.
A shimmer of cold washed over the field as the Frostmane Lynx emerged.
The audience murmured. This was the first time Jade had revealed her full lineup.
The referee slowly raised his hand.
“You may begin.”
Jade didn’t rush.
She pressed her palm forward and all of her contracts moved forward steadily, clearly a plan had already been discussed.
The Windstrike Cheetah and Frostmane Lynx flanking wide across either side. The Frostmane Lynx began coating the field in slick frost, freezing the roots of the wooden dragon’s domain, but it was only for a millisecond; the level gap was too big.
The Thunderfang Tiger stalked toward the center, electricity building in its fangs.
The Earthshatter Lion marched beside it, slow and heavy.
The Viperfang Lioness moved like smoke, slinking past roots, her focus locked onto the Dream Dragon.
And in the shadows, unseen by all, the Shadowstrike Jaguar vanished completely.
Jade murmured:
“Let’s go dragon hunting.”
