Timeless Assassin - Chapter 1022 My Loyal Friend

Chapter 1022 My Loyal Friend
(Near the ruins of Ixtal, Amanda’s POV)
It was only when she truly looked at the shattered remains of Ixtal that Amanda finally understood why Leo could never simply stay home, as she began to grasp why he carried that relentless drive to grow stronger, because if he did not, then everything they built could be erased in an instant just like this.
“Leo… are you okay?”
She muttered in a broken voice, as the mere thought that he might have been caught in the destruction sent a wave of cold dread through her chest.
Unlike Dumpy, she was not fully convinced that Leo had survived, however, for the sake of her own fragile composure, she forced herself to believe that he was still alive somewhere out there,
breathing, fighting, enduring…. because the alternative was something she simply could not bear to accept.
“I promise I’ll never stop you from training ever again if you’re alive.
I promise I will never be difficult again.
Nor will I ask more of you….
You can work towards protecting our kids, while I will nurture them. Just….. just be safe.”
She prayed, as in a single instant, all the complaints, all the resentment she held towards Leo for being an absent father vanished, and was instead replaced by a begrudging acceptance, that Leo had been right all along.
“I was wrong.
I see it now.
Please don’t let our story end like this…..
I promise, I’ll make it up to you.”
She muttered, as she began to shiver uncontrollably, her body temperature rising rapidly, as she developed an instantaneous fever.
(Meanwhile Dumpy)
For a moment, Dumpy could not hide the disgust he felt for Amanda at all, as on more than one instance, he struggled to suppress his urge to knock her out cold.
‘Woman, you have two children to look after.
Can you be less pathetic?”
He wondered, as if there was one thing he hated more than display of emotions, it was display of weakness, which Amanda put on before him now.
“The planet is destroyed, we have no idea if the enemy is still around or already gone, where is your common sense?’
He wondered, as he could not help but clench and unclench his fists non stop.
‘Should I just drop her and be on my way?
Seriously, I wonder what Lord Father sees in this woman?
If not for my respect for him, I’d have thrown her out of the exit hatch by now!
He thought, as he felt his body convulse with repulsion as he held her trembling form.
‘Ehh… fuck it. I’m going to go look after Lord Father’s kids if this woman won’t.’
Dumpy concluded in the end, as he gently lowered Amanda’s trembling body to the floor, before walking away as though she did not even exist.
(Meanwhile, Leo, Planet Yamuna)
While Amanda and Dumpy floated near the ruins of Ixtal, Leo continued to sit aimlessly on the soil of Yamuna, as he struggled to regain clarity of his thoughts.
*Step*
*Step*
From a long distance away, Leo sensed the approach of a
Transcendent Tier Warrior, and hence, out of instinct alone, he threw a dagger towards the stranger.
*SWOOSH*
The dagger sailed past the stranger’s face, leaving behind a thin cut, as Leo spoke without glancing towards his target.
“Go away….. today is not a good day.
And if you dare take another step forward, I will have no choice but to
kill you….”
Leo warned, as the stranger stopped abruptly, before dropping to one knee, as he spoke at the top of his lungs.
“Cult Master! I am number 7!
A shadow operative nurtured and raised by Lord Chaosbringer.
And it is my duty to reach out to you in these troubling times.”
The operative said, as listening to his words, Leo finally spared him a
glance, only to be surprised by what he saw.
The operative was unlike any warrior Leo had seen before, as his body bore clear fox-human traits, with pointed ears atop his head and a
long white tail resting behind him.
His fur was completely white, as was his hair, brows, and lashes, while
his skin carried a pale tone consistent with albinism.
Even his eyes were unusual, with light crimson irises that stood out
sharply against his otherwise colorless features.
There were no visible scars or signs of battle wear on him, as his
posture remained disciplined and controlled while he knelt.
However, what drew Leo’s attention most was not his appearance, but
his gaze.
His eyes were steady, alert, and observant, reflecting a level of
intelligence that was immediately noticeable.
There was no panic in him despite Leo’s threat, only awareness and
calculation, as it became clear to Leo that this was a man with an exceptionally high IQ, who was trained for analysis rather than brute
combat.
“Where is Chaosbringer?”
Leo asked, his question straight and direct, as if possible, he did not
wish to deal with Chaosbringer’s underlings, but rather the man
himself.
However, just as he already anticipated, the fox-human only lowered
his head in response to this question, as he curled his tail tightly
against his body.
“Forgive me, Cult Master…..
But the fact that the “Thirteen Program’ was activated before schedule, likely means that Lord Chaosbringer is already dead.”
He answered, as he lowered his gaze.
“For the past two decades, he has been grooming thirteen of us to eventually replace him as your number two man.
However, we were still mid-way through the programme and there was no clear successor pointed out yet…
Ideally, the programme was to last another decade, however, there was a contingency added to it, where the programme went live immediately, should Lord Chaosbringer ever face untimely demise.”
Number seven explained, as Leo let out the most labored sigh, he had
ever let out in his life.
*Sigh*
“Chaosbringer…
My loyal friend….”
He muttered in an emotional tone, as for the first time in his life, he
shed a tear for a subordinate.
A subordinate, who he knew he could never replace ever again.
