Timeless Assassin - Chapter 1068 A Visit To Planet Granada

Chapter 1068 A Visit To Planet Granada
(One month later, The Time Stilled World, Leo’s POV)
Time, within the Time Stilled World, had always behaved differently, yet even then, the past month seemed to vanish in the span of a single breath, as Leo found himself standing at the end of his preparation, having run through every variation, every sequence, and every possible outcome that his mind could conceive.
Day after day, he had sparred relentlessly, as Shadow Number One, Shadow Number Two, and even Veyr rotated through the role of his opponent, each bringing their own style, their own unpredictability, and their own attempts to break the system he had created.
And while those sessions had sharpened him, refining his understanding of the game to a level where he could now anticipate most patterns and counter most strategies, there remained a quiet unease within him, as no matter how many times he won, or how thoroughly he prepared, the fact that he was facing a lunatic like Mauriss kept bothering him to his core.
“Huff-“
Leo exhaled sharply, as he played against himself, trying the game from both ends of the spectrum, as he tried to out-think his own self, when the footsteps of Shadow Number One snapped him out of his thoughts.
“It’s time, My Lord.”
Shadow Number One said, as Leo nodded once with a sombre expression on his face.
“Its time already?”
He asked in disbelief, before clicking his tongue, as he abandoned the game and cracked his neck.
*Crack*
*Crack*
“Number One….
As you know, I must go to Granada today… and hopefully, I will come back with my life intact….”
Leo began, his voice calm, almost detached, as Shadow Number One stood a few steps behind him, silent, attentive, and fully aware of the weight behind those words.
“However…”
Leo paused, as he let the implication sit in the air for a while.
There was no dramatics in his tone.
No hesitation.
Only acceptance.
Because Leo understood that meeting Mauriss meant that there was no guarantee that he was going to come back from this expedition alive.
The Deceiver was unpredictable.
And losing his life was a real possibility in this wager.
And hence, even though he did not wish to….
Leo decided to leave behind some last ditch instructions, just in case he ended up meeting an unfortunate demise.
“However…. if I don’t return,” Leo continued, as he finally turned to face his subordinate, his gaze steady while his expression remained unreadable, “then you must ensure that the Cult does not fracture in my absence.”
Shadow Number One lowered his head slightly, his posture
respectful, though the tension in his shoulders betrayed the gravity of the moment.
“Entrust the Cult to Aegon Veyr,” Leo said, his tone firm now, leaving
no room for misinterpretation, as he spoke not as a man preparing for a journey, but as a leader preparing for his own death.
“The Dragon will lead in my place, while you remain in the shadows and continue to protect my family and my children from threats both seen and unseen.”
He continued, as his words carried the weight of command rather than suggestion.
Shadow Number One nodded once, slowly, as he accepted the responsibility without question, even though the burden behind it was immense.
“And one more thing,” Leo added, his voice lowering slightly, not out of uncertainty, but because what followed was not a command meant for war, but for restraint.
“If I fall… do not let the dumb kids seek revenge.”
He began, before letting out a long sigh, as he shook his head in
disappointment.
“They’re too hot blooded at this age.
Especially Mairon.
So put a check on him at all times.”
Leo instructed, as Shadow Number One nodded responsibly.
“Tell them that I forbid them from seeking revenge for my death, until they become Demi Gods themselves… or until their mother is gone,” Leo said, as his gaze drifted briefly, not outward, but inward, as though he was already imagining the aftermath of his own absence. “Until then, they must live for her… and not for me,” he finished, as a rare softness touched his expression for just a fleeting moment before disappearing completely.
Shadow Number One remained silent, though his jaw tightened slightly, as even for someone as composed as him, the thought of such an outcome was not easy to accept.
The Cult had already lost a lot of its finest leaders.
And after the fall of Ixtal, if they now lost Leo too, then recovering would become next to impossible.
However, beyond the Cult, on a personal level too, Shadow Number One did not fancy the odds of this mission.
Because the way he saw it, this was not just a mission but rather a risky gamble Leo was taking for the future of the Cult and his own progression as a warrior, where the price for losing could mean giving up everything.
“I understand….. My Lord,” Shadow Number One replied finally, his voice low and steady, as he accepted not just the instructions, but the possibility that he may soon have to carry them out, as Leo gave him a
firm nod.
“Good-“
Leo said before turning away, as he had no more instructions to pass
on.
*Slash*
*FWOOSH*
Leo opened a portal to Granada, its swirling depths humming with
unstable energy, as he stepped toward it without hesitation, his expression calm, his mind clear, as whatever doubt lingered within him was now buried beneath resolve.
“Let’s go meet the madman…”
He muttered, before the portal closed, as he walked deeper into the fourth dimension, leaving Shadow Number One alone in the training
chamber.
*KABOOM*
*Rain*
The moment Leo stepped outside the fourth dimensional portal, he
found himself under the stormy skies of Granada for only the second time in his life, as the rain soaked his clothes almost instantly, drenching him from head to toe within a single breath.
*Slosh*
*Crash*
Waves crashed beneath his feet in a violent maelstrom, rising and collapsing in chaotic rhythm as the ocean churned endlessly below him, while the sky above roared with unrelenting fury, streaks of lightning tearing across the dark clouds as if the heavens themselves
were cracking apart.
*Fwwwwrrrr*
The wind howled past him, sharp and unforgiving, tugging violently at
his cloak as it snapped and twisted behind him, while the sheer hostility of the environment pressed against his senses, making it clear that Granada was not a place that welcomed visitors.
And yet-
Amidst all that chaos…
There was stillness.
A single rock floated above the endless ocean, unmoving despite the
storm’s rage, as though it existed outside the laws governing everything else around it, while atop that rock stood a lone figure.
Mauriss.
Bare-chested.
Unbothered.
His long hair drifted upward unnaturally, unaffected by gravity, as his
grin stretched wide across his face, his eyes locked onto Leo with an intensity that made the storm itself feel secondary. “Welcome… welcome to my humble abode, Cult Master,” Mauriss said,
his voice cutting cleanly through the thunder and wind as he spread
his arms wide, as though presenting the entire chaotic world around
him as a personal gift.
“Hahahaha-“
A low chuckle followed, soft and amused, as if Leo’s arrival had finally
relieved him of a long-standing boredom.
Leo began to descend slowly, his gaze never leaving Mauriss even for
a fraction of a second, as his heartbeat rose despite his control, each
step downward making the invisible pressure around him grow
heavier.
Because even without killing intent…
Even without movement…
The difference between them was undeniable.
It pressed against him from all directions, subtle yet suffocating, as
though the very space around Mauriss obeyed him in ways Leo could not yet comprehend.
‘Keep it together Leo…. Remember who you are….
Leo said to himself, as he slowly landed on the rock.
*Tap*
His feet lightly touched the surface, as almost immediately, the storm
seemed to fade into the background, not because it had weakened,
but because his focus had narrowed entirely onto the man standing before him.
“I see you’ve been waiting for me, Lord Mauriss….” Leo said, his voice steady, controlled, as he met Mauriss’s gaze head-on without retreating.
“Oh…..”
Mauriss began, his grin widening further, as he stared straight into Leo’s dark gray eyes.
“Oh, I most certainly have,” he replied softly, his tone light, almost playful, as his eyes gleamed with something far sharper beneath the
surface.
*KABOOM*
Another flash of lightning split the sky.
And for that brief instant- As the world lit up around them-
The two stood facing each other on that lone rock, none backing
down, despite the power difference between them, as they both sized
each other up, as though measuring how much the other was willing
to risk before the game even began.
“I must say, you have crafted the most interesting game to play.
So hopefully, it is as fun in practice as it is on paper. Because if not…… I’d be really really disappointed.” Mauriss shared, as the implication was clear. Regardless of the result, Leo had to entertain Mauriss.
Because if not…..
Then this meeting could end in a way neither of them intended.
