Jiang Qingyi, who had been sitting on the windowsill, lifted her head and looked at Yan Ruxue and Qin Siyao.
Neither Qin Siyao nor Jiang Qingyi had made any attempt to conceal their presence or aura.
After all, against someone of Yan Ruxue’s level of cultivation, concealing one’s aura would have been utterly pointless no matter how carefully it was done.
Jiang Qingyi’s small embroidered-shoe-clad feet slipped down from the windowsill and touched the floor, and she walked toward the two women.
“Please have a seat, Fairy Jiang.”
Yan Ruxue invited Jiang Qingyi to sit with gracious ease and poured her a cup of tea.
Three women of breathtaking beauty sat gathered around the table. If one were to connect the three of them as points, it would have formed the shape of a triangle.
Xiao Mo, meanwhile, was fast asleep on the bed, completely unaware of everything happening in the room.
Jiang Qingyi found it rather amusing, when she thought about it.
Herself included, the three of them together did not have a single real name between them.
“Now that everyone is here, feel free to say whatever is on your minds directly.”
Yan Ruxue carried herself with poised elegance, like a lady of the house presiding over matters.
“As for what the two of you are here for, what you wish to accomplish, and who it is you are here for, Ruxue has already had her suspicions for some time.”
“Likewise, what I intend to do is something the two of you have already come to understand after your investigations over this period of time.”
“If I wish to keep my husband for myself, the two of you will certainly not agree to that.”
“And equally, if the two of you wish to claim him for yourselves, I will not agree to that either.”
“But if we were to come to blows, forget this imperial palace, even the Zhou Kingdom as a whole would likely be reduced to a wasteland.”
Yan Ruxue glanced at the two of them and said slowly,
“Given that, shall the three of us set a rule between ourselves?”
“A rule?” Qin Siyao looked at Yan Ruxue with amused interest, smiling as she asked, “I wonder what sort of rule Elder Sister has in mind?”
On the other side, Jiang Qingyi also reined in some of her sharpness and looked toward Yan Ruxue with curiosity, wanting to hear what kind of proposal the Lord of the Four Seas had to offer.
In truth, Jiang Qingyi understood clearly that among the three of them, none of them could truly do anything to the others.
If they really did come to blows, it would be just as Yan Ruxue had said, the Zhou Kingdom would be reduced to rubble.
Not that Jiang Qingyi particularly cared what happened to the Zhou Kingdom. Its destruction would mean nothing to her. But that fellow Xiao Mo cared about it.
So for the time being, Jiang Qingyi had no desire to let things reach that point either.
“This is the agreement I have drawn up. The two of you may take a look.”
Yan Ruxue retrieved two ordinary sheets of white paper from her storage pouch.
Qin Siyao and Jiang Qingyi looked at the delicate, beautiful handwriting on the white paper, and both of them fell into focused, contemplative silence.
“Once the two of you have finished reading, if you find no issues with it, please sign your names and press your fingerprints onto it.”
Yan Ruxue said, calm and unhurried.
“The three of us are of too high a cultivation level. Any contract arts that exist in this world hold no binding power over us whatsoever. Since that is the case, we might as well follow the mortal way of doing things. I simply hope that the two of you will honor it of your own accord.”
“No problem at all.” After finishing the contract, Qin Siyao’s eyes curved into a smile. “In that case, let us do as Elder Sister Ruxue has said.”
“I have no objections either. I only hope the Lord of the Four Seas will likewise honor it!”
Jiang Qingyi looked at the other woman with a cool, measured gaze.
“However, I want to add one more condition to this agreement!”
…
The following morning.
Sunlight streamed in through the window and fell across the face of the man lying on the bed.
The man’s brow furrowed slightly, then gradually relaxed.
Having slept for approximately five hours, the man felt the light seeping through his eyelids and slowly regained consciousness.
Xiao Mo slowly opened his eyes, pushed himself up to a sitting position on the bed, and leaned against the headboard.
Xiao Mo felt a slight ache in his head.
He assumed it was simply because he had slept too long.
He could not even remember the last time he had slept so soundly and so deeply.
“But come to think of it, what exactly happened last night?”
Xiao Mo pressed a hand to his forehead and shook his head slightly, trying to recall what had taken place the previous evening but all he could remember was that he had gone to Qin Siyao’s chambers the night before, and then to Yan Ruxue’s chambers.
When he had lifted Yan Ruxue’s red bridal veil, he had been surprised to find that she was the young woman he had encountered before then in the atmosphere of that wedding night, he had gradually drawn closer to Yan Ruxue and after that, he had lost consciousness entirely.
“Sili…”
Xiao Mo called out toward the door.
Shortly after, Sili walked in and gave him a respectful bow. “Your Majesty…”
“Did something happen last night?” Xiao Mo asked her.
“In reply to Your Majesty, this servant does not know what happened either.”
Sili said in a sincere tone.
“This servant was waiting outside the door last night, but for some reason, this servant was simply too drowsy and fell asleep right there at the entrance.”
“By the time this servant woke up, she was already in her own room. This servant heard from Elder Sister Yang this morning that it was she who had carried this servant back to the room last night, and that Your Majesty was also escorted back by the palace maids.”
“However, according to what Consort Xue said, Your Majesty must have been overly exhausted last night, and had drunk too much wine, which is why you fell asleep.”
In truth, Sili wanted to know just as badly as Xiao Mo did what had actually happened the night before.
When Sili had been knocked unconscious the previous night, she had caught a faint glimpse of a woman’s silhouette.
The person had been dressed in red, with a tall and graceful figure.
Among those in the palace who wore red, there were only Yan Ruxue and Qin Siyao.
That meant the overwhelming pressure she had felt must have come from Qin Siyao and Qin Siyao’s cultivation level was absolutely no lower than her own.
As far as Sili could tell, Qin Siyao had gone there to steal Xiao Mo for herself yet in the end, nothing had happened the previous night. The master had been sent back to his chambers safe and sound, his essence entirely intact.
Which meant that even Qin Siyao had been completely unable to do anything against Yan Ruxue.
That Yan Ruxue was certainly no ordinary person either.
So just what was the story behind the two women her master had taken as his wives?
Who exactly were they?
On the bed, Xiao Mo’s brow furrowed as he turned over what Sili had told him.
What Sili said was reasonable enough.
He had gone through an entire day of wedding ceremonies the day before, which had indeed been exhausting, and he had indeed drunk a great deal of wine but Xiao Mo still had the feeling that something was off.
No matter how one looked at it, he was a cultivator at the peak of Qi Refinement. How could he possibly have fallen asleep simply from fatigue?
Something had definitely happened the night before.
“I understand. You may go.” Xiao Mo waved her off, feeling there was little point in asking her further.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Sili gave a nod and withdrew from the room.
Xiao Mo climbed out of bed and poured himself a cup of tea and just at that moment, a gust of sword wind blew in through the window.
By the time Xiao Mo looked up, Jiang Qingyi was already seated across from him.
Though Xiao Mo could not make out her features beneath her veil, he could sense it clearly.
At this moment, Fairy Jiang was in a very poor mood.
