Chapter 554: Chapter 554 – Taming the Fourth Year: Luna’s Date
After what had happened with Liora, Ren finally realized what he had asked Luna and began to panic.
Would Luna now do the same thing as Liora? The idea filled him with terror. Another confession? Another intimate situation he wouldn’t know how to handle?
He went into complete panic for several minutes before managing to calm down enough to think rationally. Luna was very different from Liora. Much more shy, less adventurous. Surely there wasn’t much to fear.
On the other hand, he would have to guide the conversation, and that realization filled him with new anxiety.
Because if he thought about it, he didn’t know what to say.
♢♢♢♢
The next few days… His situation with Liora had become tremendously complicated.
He was even afraid of how things would be between them now, and that their friendship would be impossible to maintain with what he now knew and had happened. Every time he saw her in classes or hallways, both avoided eye contact and acted strangely.
So, what should he do with Luna?
His mind was in agony. He thought of a thousand different scenarios until he finally tried to convince himself that he could avoid the tension with Luna on the day they had agreed upon.
Then, one day it came to him.
With a calmer and more logical analysis, he decided it was impossible for the same thing to happen…
But he didn’t imagine that the Luna of that day would be in a completely different mental state than normal.
The days before the “date with Luna” and after the “date with Liora” had been a test of social endurance for Ren. He had barely avoided his roommates and classmates finding out about things, although Liora and he kept their distance and avoided crossing glances all the time.
Thankfully? Liora wasn’t the only one acting strange around Ren.
Being now a popular boy in his circle, winner of six consecutive tournaments, and with rumors circulating about his physique after the bathroom incident, plus another ridiculous rumor about him and Klein, several girls had begun acting exaggerated and strange around him.
Fortunately, Liora’s attitude passed relatively unnoticed among all these events.
Only Min had been about to find out, which Ren avoided by very ’realistically’ asking him to help and duo with him against Lin and Zhao.
Min became invisible and jumped out the window faster than Ren could blink, clearly preferring to face hordes of underground monsters than a training session with that insane duo of fast hitting teachers…
Today, while bathing and thinking about what he would say, Ren had mentally rehearsed his speech:
’I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I just wanted to make sure my apologies had been sufficient and I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything strange. I hope our friendship lasts a long time, as I’m happy to spend time with you and I’m grateful for our time together. The support you’ve always given me and the things we’ve experienced are invaluable to me so…’
In his imagination, Ren sounded like a “mature man” with a deep voice who followed the guidelines of the ’Gentlemen’ his father described with pride.
When he was ready, he headed to the meeting place in an area covered by tall bushes in the garden, but realized Luna hadn’t arrived.
He waited a while, nervously checking the area.
After some time he thought that, of course, surely Luna hadn’t dared because she was really shy as always.
And with all this, he didn’t blame her.
But when Ren stood to leave, Luna emerged from a shadow behind him and hugged him tightly, with an intensity that took him completely by surprise.
Ren swallowed. Luna buried her face in his back, and he felt chills. ’Could it be…?’
But he soon realized she was crying. When he listened more carefully, he noticed she was very sad.
Without thinking, he broke free by melting into the shadows. Luna was surprised for a moment, but then Ren appeared behind her and carried her, jumping with her between shadows.
“I’ll take you to a place where no one will hear you vent,” he whispered to her.
He didn’t take her to the place where he had been with Liora. Instead, he took her to a small area near a lake. The lake was frequently visited by water tamers, but the small surrounding pools generated by some rare plants that attracted large amounts of water to keep their roots submerged weren’t visited.
These plants formed foam between their tall stems that concealed sound well, and from their crowns they kept constantly moist, seeming like natural fountains that rained in the area all the time.
Ren had fine enough water elemental control to prevent them from getting wet, and the muted sound was perfect for privacy.
Luna vented there for a long while.
Ren didn’t know what to do other than look up and concentrate on keeping his elemental control active, providing silent support while she released whatever pain was consuming her.
The technique required constant focus, but it felt like the least he could do. Creating a protective bubble of controlled water around them while maintaining the sound dampening effect was complex, but it gave him something concrete to focus on while Luna dealt with her emotional turmoil.

Finally, Luna loosened her grip on a crumpled letter she had been clutching in her hands, which she abruptly put away.
Ren offered her a handkerchief he carried as a “good gentleman” and kept his gaze directed elsewhere so as not to look at her swollen face and make her uncomfortable.
Although thinking about discomfort… having been hugging Luna during the crying hadn’t felt strange as emotional support, but now it was beginning to feel… different.
He decided maybe he could try to break the ice to avoid that and see if he could do something to help her.
“Why are you like this?” he asked gently.
He received no response.
After thinking for a moment about the day he had spoken badly to her, he asked: “Is some idiot to blame? Because if you want, I…”
He stopped when Luna nodded.
Ren became immediately angry. “Who?”
But he didn’t expect Luna to answer with: “My father.”
Luna, still hiding her face between her hands and the handkerchief, murmured that he had broken his promise. That she had endured so much and that in the end, what was the point if he “had failed her”?
She murmured that then the words “inside” lost their meaning, and she clutched the letter again.
Ren remembered that Mayo had said something about “cursed words” in the letter, but also that his mana had told him Mayo wasn’t telling the truth behind the meaning of most of her words that day.
With all this happening, he began to feel curious about the letter’s content, but remained respectful.
Luna was recovering from crying, but instead began to get angry, clearly displeased with whatever her father “hadn’t fulfilled”.
Her attitude took a complete turn from her usual shyness.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized first to Ren. “You probably expected something very different from my pathetic situation.”
Ren sighed, used water magic to gently heal and clean her face, and told her: “It doesn’t matter what I expected…”
But Luna now with a healed and angry face interrupted him: “My father always insists that I don’t get close to you.”
Ren was surprised.
“I don’t like the reason in the first place,” Luna continued, “and if that’s what my father wants, I’m going to be closer than ever to you to oppose him.”
Suddenly, Luna knocked him down and looked intensely into his eyes. Ren let himself fall because he didn’t sense danger, but he didn’t expect Luna, in her anger, to “ravish his lips”.
