Chapter 1301: Two Cults One Aster
“Aster?” Ira asked, pointing at me. “Why are you wearing a mask like that?”
Ok first of all, how are you here?
Second of all, how did you even know?!
Wait… Let’s calm down a little…
I cleared my throat, “Ahem… I’m afraid you might have mistaken me for someone else.”
She grabbed my hand and pulled it into a handshake, gripping it firmly in hers and shaking it.
Err… What?
She released it before crossing her arms, “Nope, that’s definitely you, Aster. What are you doing here?”
Wait… She remembers me just by using the handshake as a reference? Really?
The Trasif that was beside me scowled at Ira, “Who are you? How dare you defile a temple of Goddess Srii?!”
Ira glared at her, “I wasn’t talking to you and I go wherever I please. Who the hell do you think you are?”
The Trasif stood up, “How dare you? You barge into our place of worship and interrupt my time with Lady Nilm spouting some nonsense and you still dare to be this arrogant?!”
Ira chose to ignore her and turned back to me, “So… Why are you wearing a mask, Aster?”
I sighed, deciding that it would be better to just admit to it than to keep denying since she was clearly not able to read between the lines.
“To hide my identity, of course… You know that there are instances when people don’t want their real identity to be found out, don’t you?”
She tilted her head, “Why? Are you doing something shady?”
I’m surprised she even knows what ’shady’ is to use it in this context.
“No, it’s just… Actually, yes. I am doing something shady right now that I would rather people not tie it back to me and to someone else instead.”
“Hmm? But why?”
’But why’ she asks… How am I even going to explain this to her because she clearly doesn’t even understand the concept of subtlety in and of itself?
I waved at her, “It doesn’t matter. I’m more curious about what you’re doing here instead and how did you even find me? Heck, how did you even come in here?”
She tilted her head and it looked like she didn’t even remember why she was even here to begin with before she clapped her hands together, “Oh! That’s right! I’m here to invite you on another date! Let’s go!”
She beckoned to me and gestured towards a portal that was behind her, which was obviously what she used to get into this chamber.
…
Ok, this was not something I expected… I was honestly thinking that she would question why I was hanging out with people who are trying to eliminate Off-Worlders.
But it seems like that wasn’t the case and I just happened to be here when she was looking for me…
I cleared my throat, “Ahem… Sorry Ira, but umm… I’m a little busy at the moment so can we reschedule?”
She blinked at me before giving me a confused look, “I don’t understand… I’ve properly invited you this time so why did you reject me?”
Huh?
Oh wait… The last time when I told her off for just grabbing me and pulling me away to properly invite me next time, she understood it as a guarantee that I will definitely accept her invitation if she asked?
I scratched my cheek, “Ira… When you asked someone for something… They also reserve the right to reject you…”
“Why would anyone reject me?” She asked, her voice sounding actually genuinely confused.
Ok… Umm… Let me think how I should deal with this…
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to say anything because the Trasif stepped towards her to stand in front of Ira, her hands placed on her hips.
“I think I have been quite patient with you so far. How long do you intend to continue this rudeness?”
Ira scowled at her, “Rudeness? You are interrupting my conversation right now and you dare to claim that I am rude?”
“You were the one who interrupted our conversation first and even tore off the door to rudely insert yourself into the conversation! How dare you?!”
Ira let out a sigh before she raised her hand and red coloured liquid seemed to gather along her hand to form into a blade.
Woah woah woah!! Ira!! Stop!!
She swung her hand down towards the Trasif and I winced, fully expecting the Trasif to have her head cut off.
The Trasif raised her hand and a solid block of light materialised to defend against the blow, the blade made of red liquid stopping on the light construct.
She then thrust out her palm in front of her and another block of light shot out from her palm to fly towards Ira’s abdomen.
Ira managed to move her other hand to her abdomen and managed to catch the block of light but the force of the impact still sent her skidding back.
Ira was not amused and stretched out her other hand a ball of the same red liquid appeared over her shoulder before it started shooting spikes at the Trasif.
The Trasif priestess leapt out from the confessional and threw out her hands in front of her, summoning more blocks of light that perfectly countered each of the spikes raining towards her and cancelling them out.
Seeing that her attacks were ineffective, Ira leapt up into the air and combined the red blade with the red ball, turning it into a lance before she threw it at the priestess.
The Trasif clapped her hands together and the light wall in front of her converged and shot out to transform into a cone in front of her, the lance striking against it the moment it was formed.
The sound of glass shattering reverberated around the chamber as parts of the cone started to shatter.
The Trasif seemed to have realised that she could not completely block the attack so she had made the cone to be made of multiple layers of the light shield so each shield that the lance broke took away part of its destructive power.
Eventually, when there was about half of the cone left, the lance finally stopped and shattered into particles of red light.
All this time, I was still just seated inside the booth wondering how did an investigation into this cult changed into me witnessing a fight between… Oh…
I only just realised… Ira is basically the head of the Off-Worlder cult… This Trasif is basically the leader of the anti Off-Worlder cult… So I’m witnessing the fight between the two cult leaders at the moment…
And I think I’m not wrong to claim that the source of their conflict wasn’t even about their beliefs… But because of me…
How am I this unlucky?
The Trasif switched out of being on the defensive and raised her hand up into the air, summoning a rectangular rod made of light before shooting it towards Ira who was still floating up above.
Ira shifted herself out of the way but it seems like the rod was never meant to hit her because the Trasif followed up with a wave of lightning shot out from her other hand to strike at the light rod.
The light rod’s white glow changed into an electrifying blue before the space around it was suddenly filled with the cackling of electrical sparks.
Several of them arced towards Ira and she was not able to dodge it in time so she formed a red barrier around her, allowing the lightning bolts to strike at it instead.
The Trasif continued to channel her lightning into the rod, using it to arc lightning towards Ira who was still inside the red ball without letting it up.
Cracks started to form on the surface of the red ball and it looked like the Trasif might actually best Ira here.
That was when a high pitched wail came from the red ball before a shockwave exploded out from the red ball, dispersing the rectangular rod and freeing Ira from the attack.
She then dove towards the Trasif and red light enveloped her body, turning her into some kind of red comet streaking towards the priestess.
In response, the Trasif was also enveloping herself in white light, turning herself into a shining bulwark.
The two of them clashed together and the entire chamber shook from the resulting shockwave, making me wonder if the people above ground were experiencing an earthquake at the moment.
When the dust settled, I spotted both of them standing at a distance from each other, their eyes glaring at the other.
It looked like they were about to start fighting again so I quickly shouted at them, “STOP!!”
Both women froze and turned towards me, as though questioning why I would stop them from trying to kill each other.
I cleared my throat, “Ahem… I don’t think it’s good for you two to fight, ok? Err… Please don’t?”
Oh gods… I felt so lame saying that… Surely that wouldn’t wor–
“Hmm… If Aster says not to fight, I won’t.”
“If that is Lady Nilm’s wish.”
…
I don’t want to say anything anymore.
