Chapter 1317: The Trasifs’ Rewards
I ended up staying with the Siren sisters for a good chunk of the day.
The look of pure satisfaction on their faces made it worth it though.
I then left the two sisters to catch up while I returned to my girls who had already prepared a giant pile of clothes they wanted me to try on so I was subjected to being a dress up doll once again.
Or rather… My Shadow Guards were as I summoned them for my girls to play with while enjoying sweets that Katsuki pulled out of thin air for me.
Mmmm~ So good~
After storing away all the clothes they bought, we returned to the inn to find Ladia waiting for us there, the Head Priestess rushing over to me when she saw us.
“Apostle! Apostle! You’ve returned!”
“Oh… Hello Ladia. I’m guessing you’re looking for me?”
“That’s right, that’s right! Are you free right now? Could you please come with me?”
I blinked at her, “What is this about?”
“The Council wishes to meet you and bestow their reward for your work in saving our Tree of Life of course!”
“Right now? Didn’t you just go to see them today?”
She nodded enthusiastically, “That’s right! But I did already informed them earlier that you were doing something to help us with the problem when you accepted that task from me! So it looks like they have already prepared something in advance!”
“They had that much faith in me?”
“Well… I did tell them you were an Apostle so I guess that gave them the confidence that you would not fail.”
Well… I guess it’s a good thing that I didn’t know about this beforehand because I think that would put a lot of pressure on me if I knew…
I looked at my girls and Ladia answered my question before I could ask it, “They can come to, Apostle!”
Oh, alright then.
We followed Ladia out of the inn and back towards the Tree of Life.
We reached the area where I had first thought was the government district and went straight towards the large tree building that looked like a senate building.
I realised that the other girls hadn’t actually been here before as they were looking around in wonder. Too bad Delmare was still with her sister though… Perhaps I’ll take her here myself later before we leave the city just to take a look around.
Additionally, they seemed confused that they had to wear the robes that covered their bodies up but Katsuki explained to them the reason for such an arrangement.
I’m going to ignore the looks of disappointment when they watched me drape a robe over myself, because I also felt disappointment when I watched my girls’ enchanting figures disappear inside those robes they were wearing.
As I secured the clasp on the robe, I felt movement behind me before something pressed against my butt.
I moved my robe aside to look underneath it, finding Lisa hiding underneath my robe and pressing her face in between my butt cheeks.
“Lisa…”
“Mnnngghh~~ Just give me a moment~” She sighed, sucking in a deep breath before she crawled out again.
The other girls all looked at my bottom wistfully.
Ok girls, calm down… You girls can do that after we are back in our room, ok?
We stepped inside the government building and I noticed that we were the only group that was walking into the building. There were other Trasifs as well but all of them were standing at the side and watching us and whispering amongst themselves.
At first, I thought that they didn’t like us until someone started to clap.
That set off a chain reaction and someone even let out a cheer which only spurred the crowd to clap even louder and harder.
Some of them even transformed to reveal they were Plant Spirits and they flew around me to follow our small congregation towards the building.
Ok, now this feels so embarrassing… It makes me feel like I was naked despite the robes and I just want to hide my face now…
Ladia was even clapping along while she was leading us and that just made me feel even more embarrassed.
Come on… I don’t think I deserve any of this… I barely did anything for this…
Still… I had to just accept it as we headed into the building and I barely remembered the route we took since there were also people cheering for us as we walked through the building.
This really just feels like a humiliation ritual at this point.
The worst part was that I knew they were actually genuine about their cheers.
I eventually found myself standing in the middle of a small, circular stage alongside my companions while a group of seven Trasifs sitting behind a raised dias looked down at me.
As I took the spot, all seven of them stood up and clapped as well, making me briefly consider if I should just dig a hole and hide myself at that point.
“Apostle of our Great Goddess Drebann! It is our honour and privilege to be graced with your presence today!” The Trasif in the centre cheered.
The other six Trasifs let out a cheer of their own before they came down from their dias to stand in front of me.
The Trasif whom I assumed was their leader stood in front of me with her hand outstretched so I took it and allowed her to shake my hand.
“We represent the people in our city to thank you, Apostle! Without you, who knows what would have befallen upon our city? Our people might even have been wiped out if it wasn’t because of you!”
“It’s… It’s not that big of a deal, really… I believe you would have been able to solve the problem yourselves given time… I just so happen to be here…” I stammered.
“You are too modest, Apostle! Please, accept this as our small token of gratitude!”
A Trasif sashays out from the corner of the room to present a box with a silk cushion that had a wooden pendant resting on top of it.
The leader of the council took the pendant up reverently before handing it over to me.
Seeing how she was handling the pendant, I realised this wasn’t just any regular medal so I received it carefully as well.
“This is the Pendant of Life that is carved from the wood of the Tree of Life itself. Made only using the wood that the Plant Spirits have granted us in limited supply every year. It allows you to use part of the Tree of Life’s power for yourself.”
I eyed the pendant and used [Screened] on it.
[Pendant of Life – Allows a bearer recognised by the Tree of Life to channel its energy through them. What the bearer is able to do with the power depends on how much they are recognised by the Tree of Life. Authority of current bearer: Absolute.]
…
I’m not actually sure what this really means but I’m just going to put it away for now and figure it out later…
I bowed my head, “Though I feel that I am unworthy of such praise, I thank you for your generosity.”
The seven Trasifs also quickly bowed their heads.
“No, Apostle, it is us who should be thanking you. It is only thanks to you that we are able to deal with this potential calamity with such ease. Without you, there will no doubt be casualties and we might have faced a possible extinction had you not done what you did. In addition to this small token, I am also naming you as the saviour and eternal friend of the Trasifs. If there ever comes a time you need shelter from anything and anyone, our forests will welcome you anytime for any reason at all. You will always find a place of refuge here should you need it. No place in this forest under our jurisdiction will ever turn you away for any reason.”
I really hope that it won’t come down to that but I appreciate the sentiment.
She then turned towards Ladia, “I believe our Head Priestess here also has something she wishes to give you so I will not take up more of your time, Apostle. Once again, you have our deepest gratitude.”
I was then escorted out with my group again and I had to endure even more cheers as Ladia led me towards the temple underneath the giant tree.
I endured another round of people cheering me on as I was led to a part of the temple that I had never been to before and Ladia stopped in front of a stone door that had a carving of Drebann in both her male and female forms on it.
The door automatically slid open when we got closer to it and I realised in the room was a single Waystone seated in the centre of the room.
Ladia smiled, “Goddess Drebann told me that you would be the only one who is able to use this Waystone from now on. She and Goddess Immana placed this for you so if you wish to find a way back here, you will always be able to.”
Oh… So that means… I’m the only one who can teleport into the city even when the Tree of Life is hiding them? But I’m not a Grey Walker though so how does that work?
Maybe I can find the way if a Grey Walker brings me to the In-Between Planes?
That’s cool.
So umm… Can I go back to hide in my room now?
