Chapter 1327: How To Get Them To Work Together?
I basically gave the two women a good scolding during our break where I had the both of them sit in seiza in front of me as I berated them for their ignorance.
Well… I can kind of understand them since they’ve never been a Mercenary before so they don’t know the etiquette… But that was still not an excuse for them to do what they did…
That’s why I’m just scolding them for it right now.
Seabille, the Trasif convoy leader, came up to me with what looked like two bowls of stew that they had made for lunch.
“Miss Aster… I think that’s good enough… They were trying to protect us as well, weren’t they? It’s the thought that counts. Please give this to them as part of our thanks.”
I know that she was just trying to cover for them to keep the peace so I took the bowls from her and gave her a nod.
She took the hint and left us with a smile and another nod at the two girls kneeling in front of me before she returned to the rest of the Trasfis.
I let out a sigh, “Alright… I hope that you understand why I’m upset now… But you did a good job protecting the convoy so… Good job, girls.”
I then handed the bowls of stew that Seabille had given to me over to them.
While Tsara took it without complaint, Ira frowned at it before looking up at me.
“Aster… I don’t think such kinds of food is suitable for people like us?
Tsara sighed, “You really are unable to read the atmosphere… Here, you are supposed to just be thankful and take what is offered to you without complaint. But I guess something like that is impossible for you as well.”
Ira shot her a glare but I stopped her before she could start another fight.
“Ok, Tsara is right about that. Seabille just wants all of us to get along and have this escort mission proceed as peacefully as possible. That’s why she offered this stew to help tide this over. So just accept it… You don’t need to eat it but at least accept the sentiment.”
Ira frowned but took the bowl begrudgingly.
At this point, I kind of figured out that Ira definitely has a problem with social issues. Possibly she isn’t even aware of what is considered proper or improper in a social situation, perhaps due to the fact that she has not really needed to interact with people before.
So I figured this was also a learning experience for her so we might as well just take it one step at a time.
I cleared my throat, “Anyway… Please try not to fight anymore, alright? I know the both of you don’t like each other but at least work together…”
Tsara lowered her head slightly, “I apologise for the troubles we have brought you, Lady Aster.”
Ira sighed, “I will try… Only because you are the one asking for it, Aster.”
Well… Better than nothing I suppose?
I nodded at them before I returned to my girls.
Emilia made a face at me when I returned, “Boss… With all due respect… I still think it would be better if we just tossed them out… They are more trouble than they are worth…”
“Come on… We have the leaders of two organisations that are determined to mess things up if we don’t deal with them… The fact that we managed to get them to stay with us instead of go around plotting stuff is already a big win in my opinion…”
Minnera turned to me, “Well… There’s always the option of just eliminating them permanently, you know?”
“Ok, let’s not resort to that unless we have no choice…”
“I’m just saying… It’s an option.”
Lisa came over to hug my arm, “Mmm… As much as I want to agree with that… I will have to stand on Aster’s side for this. If we were to just kill them, it would make them martyrs instead. And there’s no telling that the next person to take their place would be willing to follow us like they have. At least we have a chance to change their minds here~”
Odeta grinned, “Oh? And what method do you have in changing their minds?”
Lisa licked her lips lewdly, “Isn’t it obvious? We just make them obsessed with doing something else instead~ Or… To be more specific… Get them obsessed with being done by someone~”
All of my girls blushed and looked at me.
Come on… You’re basically sending me as a honey trap, aren’t you?
Well… I admit I’m not completely opposed to the idea since… To be honest… The both of them are quite attractive as well…
Ahem… Anyway…
We took our break where we had a quick lunch before we continued on our journey towards the Amrap village.
Unlike the Trasif forest, there was actually a path that was laid out for us to follow so we didn’t need to worry about getting lost.
We did see a few other travellers along the path as well though I noted that most of them were either Trasifs, Wrunches or Amraps if they were normal civilians. The only people belonging to other races look like they were Mercenaries or Dungeonners judging by the equipment they were carrying.
There must be some Dungeon or monsters nearby that make for good profit.
Unfortunately, since we had to travel at the speed of the convoy, our travel time had been extended to another day and we needed to camp out for the night.
At least we should reach the village tomorrow and Odeta seemed quite eager to introduce me to the village itself.
As we set up camp, Tsara and Ira approached me once again and I was worried that they might have gotten into conflict again.
Instead, Tsara gestured towards me, “Lady Aster. Seeing that we would be camping outside for the night… We have decided that we will keep watch for everyone since we brought trouble to you earlier.”
I blinked at them, more surprised that they were actually offering to do this voluntarily.
I turned to Ira, wondering if she also agreed to this.
She crossed her arms, “We both agreed that we brought trouble and wanted to come up with a way to atone for it… So we discussed this and this was what we agreed on.”
Oh wow… The both of them actually agreed on something together? That’s definitely surprising.
Honestly, there was no need for them to do this since I have my Shadow Guards anyway… But since they had offered to do this voluntarily, I thought that I might as well just let them do it if it meant helping the two of them accept each other.
I nodded, “Then… I’ll leave it to the both of you tonight?”
“Of course, Lady Aster.”
“Don’t worry, Aster. I’ll do it properly.”
Well… If you say so…
Obviously I still let my Shadow Guards do their duty and had them watch the surrounding area in case any monsters appeared.
In the meantime… I hid somewhere and kept watch over the two girls to make sure that this wasn’t just an excuse for them to start another fight while I was not around to stop them.
Surprisingly, when it was time for them to take watch, I found them seated near each other by the campfire looking quite amicable.
They weren’t seated side by side of course, but still near enough for them to have a conversation.
And that seemed to be their goal here.
“I don’t understand why you would be here,” Tsara asked, her eyes locked on the fire.
Ira perked up slightly, “Do you mean travelling with Aster or just sitting here with you.”
“Journeying with Lady Aster of course. You know that I am the leader of the organisation directly opposed to yours, so why not just go your own way and plot against me instead?”
Ira scoffed, “Isn’t it obvious? It’s because I have found something that is way more interesting and important to me.”
“You’re talking about Lady Aster?”
“What else could it be? Everyone else would either want to kill me or run away from me. She is the first one that I have met that not only did neither of those but actually went out of her way to teach me and treat me like a person. I should be asking you this question instead.”
“Ara? I thought it was quite obvious. Lady Aster is favoured by the Goddess I serve. In that sense, it is obvious that I should follow her as she is now an extension of my Goddess.”
“Hmph… That just means that you are following her out of obligation.”
“And you are following her to satisfy your own personal preferences too, isn’t it? We’re not so different.”
“I do not agree.”
Tsara shrugged, “If that’s what you think…”
The two of them then sank back into an awkward silence.
They really need to at least work together a little…
Hmm… Maybe I should help them a little… Eins? I see you have a few monsters there… Could you lead them in?
