- Chapter 1128 - 1128: Taking over the city (2)

There was only silence that followed after Emperor Kalos said this.
But based on the looks on the faces in the crowd, it didn’t seem like they were reacting positively to this.
Most of them didn’t even seem like they were processing what Emperor Kalos had just said.
That couldn’t be blamed on them since no one would have expected Emperor Kalos to say something like this. At the same time, most of them didn’t even recognize Emperor Kalos since it had been a long time since they had even seen him.
As such, most of them weren’t even sure if they were being tricked or not.
But in the end, they chose to accept it since he was with the royal guards.
The royal guards had a special position in Glory City and unless one had a certain amount of power, they certainly wouldn’t be able to command the royal guards around like this.
Though the one thing that they had to doubt was the fact that Emperor Kalos was controlling the royal guards. As far as they knew, Emperor Kalos shouldn’t have the ability to do this since the six factions should be in charge.
This was a well known fact by everyone…
Then was this not Emperor Kalos, but rather someone from the six factions that was posing as Emperor Kalos. Were they posing as Emperor Kalos so they could pin the blame on him for what was happening?
Then did that mean that a coup was coming?
Many people thought that there was something happening behind the scenes.
But in the end, it was a few of the older people in the crowd that reacted.
These older people had fallen into a daze when they saw Emperor Kalos step forward, but now they were finally reacting.
There were some of them that suddenly bowed down.
“Dad, what are you doing?”
“Grandma, you shouldn’t do that here.”
“Why aren’t you bowing as well? This is our emperor!”
When these conversations happened in the crowd, the way that the crowd looked at Emperor Kalos changed. After all, this was basically confirming that this was indeed Emperor Kalos as he had claimed.
Then he was actually able to command the royal guards…
It meant that something had clearly changed and it was likely that he was related to this barrier…
“Let us out of this place! It’s not like you need to keep up here if you want to take the city!”
Before anyone else could say anything, there was someone who suddenly shouted this from the crowd.
The moment that the others heard this, there were many that seemed to agree with this person. They didn’t hesitate to call out at Emperor Kalos with their demands to be released from this place.
In the end, all of these cries fell on deaf ears.
Emperor Kalos didn’t say anything in response to the people crying out demanding their freedom.
He just simply watched over them for a bit before saying, “It can’t be done. Simply put, all of you are hostages right now.”
There was a somber silence that came over the crowd when they heard this.
Many of them were looking at Emperor Kalos with looks of disbelief, but that couldn’t be blamed on them. Most people would be in disbelief if they were suddenly told that they were being used as hostages.
Eventually, it seemed like the crowd was about to become rowdy again.
But before that could happen, the royal guards suddenly pulled out their weapons.
When the royal guards pulled out their weapons like this, all of the people in the square suddenly fell silent. They even looked away from the stage as if they were afraid that they would attract attention to themselves.
It was different when the royal guards acted like this.
After all, there was a reason why they were the royal guards in the first place.
They were much stronger than the average person and even if they had the numbers, that didn’t mean that they would be able to do anything to the royal guards. Each royal guard would be able to take down a large number of them.
Let alone the fact that all of these royal guards were gathered here.
So in the end, there was nothing that they could do other than listen to what Emperor Kalos had to say.
When they felt silent, Emperor Kalos said, “If you were to leave now, do you think that you’ll be allowed to go free? If you leave a place that’s been isolated from the six factions like this, do you really think that they would let you go?”
The entire crowd revealed strange looks when they heard this, but it didn’t seem like a single one of them was denying what Emperor Kalos was saying.
That was because they knew that he was right since they had already suffered under the oppression of the six factions before.
The six factions believed that they owned Glory City after taking power from Emperor Kalos, so they acted however they wanted in this place. That meant that they did quite a few terrible things to the people of the city.
If they could do these terrible things, there was no reason why they wouldn’t be able to do something to the ones that they caught leaving the city.
There was no telling what the six factions would do to get the information that they wanted.
Another somber silence came over the crowd as all of them were lost deep in thought. Many of them were thinking about a way to get through this since they didn’t want to be caught in this power struggle.
When he saw this, Emperor Kalos said, “As long as you continue living your normal lives and make due with what resources are available inside of the barriers, then there won’t be a problem. I will guarantee that whether I win or lose, you will not be harmed if you follow me until then.”
Once more, the entire crowd looked at Emperor Kalos with strange looks.
Many of them had doubts in their eyes, but that wasn’t strange since Emperor Kalos was basically asking them for their lives. But at the same time, it didn’t seem like they were able to find a better solution than this.
The silence was broken by someone that suddenly said, “Your majesty, I will follow you!”
Everyone turned to look at the one that said this to find that it was an old woman who was bowing on the ground.
It didn’t take long for others to follow.
These were old people just like the old woman who bowed first.
When Emperor Kalos saw this, he couldn’t help revealing a strange look as well.
After all, he didn’t think that there would be anyone that was willing to follow him. He was nothing more than a deposed emperor, so there shouldn’t be anyone willing to fall under him like this.
But he could hear the loyalty in the voice of these people.
Seeing that Emperor Kalos didn’t say anything, the old people started saying, “Your majesty, please lead us to the peaceful life that we had in the past.”
A complicated look appeared on Emperor Kalos’ face when he heard this.
He knew what they were referring to and at the same time, he couldn’t help feeling guilty because of it. He was the one that had let the six factions take over and the one that had caused them to live this life.
So in a sense, this was him paying the consequences of his actions.
As such, it was impossible for him not to feel guilty.
But in the end, he said, “This is why I’m doing all of this. I want to reclaim the power that I once had and bring peace to my people again.”
There were others that started coming around when they heard this.
While they weren’t as old as the people that bowed first, they were still only just one generation below them. They were the ones that had listened to stories about how things had been much more peaceful when Emperor Kalos was in charge.
And now that they had a chance to go back to that…
Well, they decided to go along with it after weighing their options.
The only ones that were left were the young people that didn’t feel any sympathy for what Emperor Kalos was saying.
They were still looking for a way out of this place.
But with the royal guards holding their weapons, it was hard for them to make a move.
Then the city guards also pulled out their weapons as if they were pledging their allegiance to Emperor Kalos as well.
With all of the armed forces working with Emperor Kalos, they really had no choice but to follow him.
Later on, Lin Fan would learn that…
“We’re following you, not him. We saw that you were following Emperor Kalos as well, so we decided to follow you since we trust your judgement. You were the only one to treat us as humans, so of course we’ll return the favour.”
Though this was part of the plan in the first place, Lin Fan was still a bit touched when he heard the city guards say this.
With everyone bowing like this, Emperor Kalos pulled out a scepter that he raised above him and said, “Then I declare that this day will be known as the rebirth of the Kalos Empire. I vow to do all that I can to lead you back to those glory days!”
“All hail your majesty!”
With that, control over the capital had been seized.
