With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods - Chapter 1183: A scholarly gentleman

Chapter 1183: A scholarly gentleman
As Lin Fan had expected, there were two more trials that had similar tests that followed after these two.
It was chess and calligraphy from the four arts, so it was only natural that there would also be tests on the other four arts.
As such, there was a test on playing the zither and a test on finishing a poem that was half finished.
For the zither test, the system actually showed him a video on how to play as well as lighting up the strings when he needed to pluck them. When the system held his hands like this, it really was hard for Lin Fan to mess up.
But the moment that he heard the song that was being played…there was a complicated look on his face.
That was because this was a popular song from his past life, this wasn’t a song that existed in this world.
If there was someone else that had heard it, they surely would have misunderstood.
As for the poem, it was easy since he was just finishing it.
But Lin Fan had to admit that the system had good tastes when it finished the poem.
Even with the little bit of understanding that he had of poetry composition, he could tell that this was a good poem.
Perhaps that system wasn’t boasting when it said that it was a grandmaster of the four arts.
When he finally finished the last trial, that was when he finally arrived in a different room.
The moment that he arrived, he was hit with an excited voice.
“As expected of a scholarly gentleman such as myself. Only someone like me could attract other scholars like you here.”
Lin Fan had no idea what was happening, but he could tell that whoever this voice belonged to wasn’t a simple person. In fact, it was even speaking as if it was the owner of this place.
If it was speaking like it owned this place, then it was very likely that it did in fact own this place.
After entering the room, Lin Fan looked around to see if there was anything strange about this place.
But unlike the rest of the rooms that he had been in, this room seemed rather simple. It didn’t seem like there were any of the decorations that had been in the other rooms, it didn’t even seem like the person who created this room cared about how it looked.
This room was clearly one that was purely functional.
At the very center of the room was a pedestal and on that pedestal was a glowing crystal.
This glowing crystal was where this voice was coming from.
“Come, come, don’t be shy. I just want to have a few words with you before I pass on my legacy to you.”
Lin Fan didn’t move forward right away as he carefully observed the crystal to see what it would do, but there wasn’t anything that happened. The voice didn’t ring out again as if the owner was just waiting for him to approach.
After a while, Lin Fan finally stepped forward.
Once he was in front of the crystal, the same voice as before said, “Not bad, not bad. As expected of the genius scholar that is myself, I only attract the best kind of people. You’re handsome and smart, a true scholarly gentleman like myself.”
Lin Fan didn’t know what to say in response like this since this was his first time being complimented like this.
With the way that the voice of the crystal was giving the compliments, it seemed more like it was complimenting itself rather than complimenting Lin Fan.
That filled Lin Fan with a trace of bitterness even though he didn’t show it on his face.
When the voice was done ’complimenting’ him, it finally said, “As you’ve made it all the way here, you are qualified to inherit this legacy of mine. I hope that you will be able to make the most out of all the things that I’ve left here.”
Lin Fan was certainly surprised to hear this since he didn’t expect the voice of the crystal to be this straightforward.
He thought that there would be some kind of other test that followed, but it seemed like this was it.
However, there was a part of Lin Fan that couldn’t help feeling doubtful.
If this was the test, then why did Ye Qing Huan say that it was hard. Why did Ye Qing Huan say that no one from the Heavenly Demon Sect had never passed this test before.
After all, there should have been all kinds of people in the Heavenly Demon Sect.
If they knew these things about the trial, then they would have been able to bring that information back. It should have been easy to find someone that was skilled in all four arts to pass this trial.
So why did the Heavenly Demon Sect never do anything to this trial before?
That was when Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling doubtful that it wasn’t over yet.
It really felt like there was something else that the voice of the crystal was about to do.
But before he could react, there was something that appeared.
This was another crystal that suddenly came out of the wall. This crystal was much larger than the one that was on the pedestal and looked like it was made from some kind of different material.
At the same time, Lin Fan could feel the aura that was coming from it which made him tense up.
“There’s no need to act so tense, this is just the core of these ruins of mine. The crystal that I’m using is one that has sealed a part of my soul after my death, so it’s able to interact with you. However, this core is the one that will allow you to take control of my inheritance.”
After the voice said this, it seemed that there was a reaction that came from the giant crystal that had been revealed.
Lin Fan couldn’t help tensing even more when he saw this, but he didn’t take a step back in the end as he waited to see what would happen.
Only when he did, he heard something that he felt that he shouldn’t have heard.
“Where is that other function? I’ve only been using it to wipe the memories of the people that have failed the trial so they don’t spoil it for the others.”
Lin Fan couldn’t help revealing a faint smile when he heard this.
After all, this did answer one of the questions that he had about this place. It was the one that he had about why those from the Heavenly Demon Sect didn’t send someone skilled in the four arts to claim these ruins.
It was simply because they didn’t remember what kind of trial they had taken.
They would remember bits of it because they were strong enough to resist the memory wipe to a certain extent. But other than that, they never actually remembered the specifics of the trial which was why they remembered it as something skill based without actually remembering the specifics.
Though after figuring this out, there was a part of Lin Fan that couldn’t help feeling a bit bitter because of this.
“Isn’t this answer a bit too simple?” That was the only thing that he could think as the crystal began to light up.
After the giant crystal fully lit up, the voice from the crystal said, “Give me a strand of your spiritual sense and bind it to this crystal. That will allow you to take control of these ruins.”
Lin Fan didn’t do what the voice said right away as he just looked at the giant crystal.
He was looking at it as if he was trying to scrutinize it, but there wasn’t anything coming from his Appraisal Eyes.
It was the same thing where he only saw question marks when he tried using his Appraisal Eyes on it.
“This is indeed the core of these ruins. As long as the host gives it a strand of spiritual sense, it will bind to the host.”
Lin Fan couldn’t help being surprised once more when he heard this before a strange feeling filled him.
The system today really was not normal…
The system today had said more to him than it would normally say, even when he was in danger.
He really didn’t know what had gotten into the system, but it really didn’t feel like it was a good thing…
“The system is just here to help the host.” The system said in the same mechanical voice, but it seemed a bit strained when Lin Fan heard this. It was almost as if the system had gained emotions…but that wouldn’t be possible…
In the end, Lin Fan chose to follow along since even the system was willing to speak up for it.
As such, he sent a strand of his spiritual sense into the crystal.
It didn’t feel like much happened, but he could sense that there was a link with the crystal now as it started to dim.
When the giant crystal dimmed, the voice of the crystal said, “It’s truly a good feeling to find a soul that can connect with mine to pass my inheritance down. Just like the dawn, I hope that you will keep shining.”
“Thank you.”
“No, that’s not right. You should have responded with just like the moon, I will forever light the sky. Could it be that you aren’t as scholarly as I thought? Wait, then I don’t want to give you my…”
The voice didn’t get to finish these words.
