Chapter 1206: More ways of gathering faith (2)
Once Lin Fan left the bulb plants behind, he started walking in a different direction.
This time, it didn’t take him long to find something else.
That was because the thing that was hiding inside of the mist this time was just too big for him to miss. Even without his own abilities to scan the area, Lin Fan would have been able to find this thing without a problem.
When Lin Fan found this thing, he couldn’t help being surprised.
After all, he didn’t think that there was something that was this big that could grow inside of this mist. With the mist covering up the sun like this, it was hard to imagine where the nutrients that grew this thing came from.
Well, Lin Fan was able to figure it out after a while.
Especially since he could see what this thing was for.
This was a large tree that was growing in the center of the mist and it had the same thing as the bulb plants where it laid out its roots like some kind of net waiting for prey to enter.
Though when it came to this large tree, there was a much larger net of roots than there was with the bulb plant.
After all, there was a large difference in size between the two. It was only normal that there would be more roots coming from this large tree than there were coming from the smaller bulb plants.
But it wasn’t that this tree was just a bit bigger than the bulb plants, this tree was massive compared to the bulb plants. This was the kind of tree that was several times larger than any of the normal trees outside of the Mist Lands.
Since it was this big, it wasn’t hard to imagine what had made this tree grow so large.
As such, Lin Fan used the power of gravity to lift himself off the ground.
What Lin Fan was doing was using the power of gravity to make it seem like he was using magic rather than using his spiritual energy to lift himself up.
Even if he didn’t feel anyone watching him, it was better to be safe than sorry when it came to this matter. That was why he was using the power of gravity to simulate magic.
Using this power of gravity to float over to the tree, he noticed that there was something that was dangling from the branches of the tree.
This was different from the leaves that hung from the branches and they didn’t seem like fruit that the tree was growing.
Through his own mist formed from the Clear Water, Lin Fan was able to tell that these were things that were like cocoons that hung from the branches of this tree. And based on the fluctuations coming from these branches, he could tell that there was something inside.
Even before checking what was inside of this, Lin Fan already had a guess.
He might not have had an idea if he didn’t encounter those bulb plants previously, but that encounter allowed him to guess just what it was that was inside of these cocoons.
With a simple spiritual sense scan, Lin Fan was able to see the people that were inside.
Though it was different from the bulb plants where there were tubes that were connected to these people. It seemed like they were put in a trance just from being inside of the cocoons.
Lin Fan knew that he wasn’t able to do anything to save these people since there was no doubt that he would attract attention if he were to do so.
After all, he could hear them muttering, “All hail the Mist Lord…”
Once he heard this, he knew that this must be another method of gathering faith that the Mist Lord was using. It was just like the bulb plants that he encountered before where they had put the people that they trapped in a trance that would make them see illusions, forcing them to worship the Mist Lord.
Though this time, it seemed that the cocoons were made of some kind of material that caused the people that were trapped inside to fall into an illusion.
Lin Fan wasn’t certain what kind of material this was, but he knew that this tree wasn’t normal.
“This tree must be something special to the Mist Lord, unlike the rest of the things that I’ve seen.”
So Lin Fan made sure to take special note of this tree.
He even went as far as naming this tree the Mist Tree because of how special it was.
After thinking about it, Lin Fan used a bit of his power to cut off a piece of the cocoon.
There was plenty of material that made up the cocoon, so it was easy for him to cut off a piece without causing too much damage to it to alert the tree.
Though the moment that he cut it off, he could feel the power of this piece of cocoon affecting him. It felt like there was something that was trying to drill into his mind with the way that this power affected him.
Lin Fan had no idea what it was that was trying to drill into his head like this, but it was clear that this wasn’t a normal kind of power that was able to affect him like this.
But in the end, he was able to resist it.
This was only a piece of the cocoon, this wasn’t the cocoon itself.
When it was only a piece of the cocoon like this and not the cocoon itself, that meant that this power wasn’t as strong as it could have been. When it was only a fragment of the full power, naturally it wasn’t able to break through Lin Fan’s resistance.
However, the fact that it could affect him at all showed how powerful this piece of the cocoon was.
As such, Lin Fan didn’t bother keeping it out for long.
He just tossed it into a Storage Ring all by itself. He didn’t even keep anything else in the Storage Ring just in case something happened with this piece of the cocoon.
That was how cautious Lin Fan was being with this thing.
After he was done checking out the tree, Lin Fan headed off once more after leaving a marker.
“Another group of mist people…” Lin Fan said when he felt the mist people moving in front of him.
With how long Lin Fan had been in this Mist Land, he had already gotten used to scanning his surroundings and could easily find things like these mist people.
Once he found these mist people, he just followed them without a word.
Even when he saw them attacking adventurers, he didn’t do anything for them.
Only after he found the village of these mist people did he mark it down on the map that he had been making.
Just leaving behind markers wasn’t enough to keep track of everything anymore, so Lin Fan started to draw a map of everything that he found. It was only with this map that he would be able to keep track of everything that he found.
“There really are just too many ways that the Mist Lord is gathering faith from people in these Mist Lands.” Lin Fan couldn’t help thinking to himself in the end as he drew this map.
…
After wandering around for a few days, Lin Fan had a grim look on his face as he looked at the map that he had drawn up.
The things that he found in the Mist Lands really didn’t give him a good feeling.
The different things that were scattered out all over the Mist Lands showed just what kind of ambition this Mist Lord had. At the same time, it showed how serious this Mist Lord was about collecting faith from people.
He couldn’t even begin to count just how many adventurers had been trapped in this place.
This certainly wasn’t something that could have been done in a short period of time. This was the kind of thing that would take a long time just to gather all of these people.
Lin Fan had already heard about all of the countless people that had gone missing in the Mist Lands when he asked about this place.
“Even with all of this, it isn’t enough for the Mist Lord to become a god?”
Lin Fan knew that becoming a god wasn’t that easy, but with the scale that the Mist Lord took collecting faith, it really was surprising that it wasn’t enough.
Or there was the possibility that there was something else that the Mist Lord was missing that was preventing it from becoming a god.
Though Lin Fan couldn’t even begin to imagine just how strong the Mist Lord had become after absorbing all of this faith from the people that it had captured.
Well, Lin Fan did have an idea.
On the map that he drew, there was a circle formed by all of the different faith gathering methods that he had discovered.
With this, he was able to tell just where the Mist Lord should be hiding.
But there was a reason why Lin Fan didn’t explore that place.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, it was more that he was wary of that place.
When Lin Fan had approached that place, he had felt the pressure that came from the place the Mist Lord was hiding.
He knew that the Mist Lord wasn’t simple because of this and didn’t dare approach that easily.
“The only thing left is to report this matter and see how to handle this Mist Lord.”
