Chapter 1386: Are you single?

With his reputation established, it was actually quite easy for Lin Fan to get a meeting with the Highoak Family.

Though the main reason that he was able to secure this meeting was because of the other piece of information that he had included in his letter.

It was a request to see the products of the Highoak Family.

The Highoak Family knew about the identity that had been arranged for him and that was the reason why they had come to the banquet in the first place.

So if he was willing to buy their products, then they would happily sell these products to him.

The more connections that the Highoak Family made, the more secure they were.

When Lin Fan arrived at the Highoak Family manor, he had to admit that they had done well for themselves.

It was clear that they were good at producing the things that they sold and that they were good at pushing those products onto others. Otherwise people wouldn’t spend so much just to buy these things from them.

But because they were good at selling these things, the amount of money that they earned wasn’t small. They were even able to build a mansion of this size with that money.

Waiting at the gate was the same person that had come to the party, though there was one person that was missing from their side.

Seeing that, Lin Fan couldn’t help letting out a sigh of relief.

After all, it wasn’t as if he had been looking forward to seeing that other person.

That other person was someone that wanted something from him that he didn’t want to give, but he had to play along since that was all part of the song and dance. Only if that person wasn’t here, then he wouldn’t have to worry about it.

“Sir Ashton, it’s good to see you again.” Lin Fan said after coming out of his carriage.

Ashton Highoak had a wide smile on his face as he said, “Sir Ralot, it’s good to see you as well. It was a shame that we didn’t get time to talk at your banquet last time. We have to make up for it this time.”

Though there was a friendly tone to his voice, Lin Fan could tell that he didn’t really mean it.

The members of the Highoak Family had clearly been trained to deal with guests with the way that Ashton acted. In fact, it seemed like there was even a trace of manipulation inside of his voice.

It was almost as if there was some kind of compelling factor in his voice that made others want to be friends with him.

Though this wasn’t enough to penetrate through Lin Fan’s mental defenses.

In fact, it actually made Lin Fan raise his defenses since he could feel that there was something that was trying to break through.

At the same time, Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling that there was something familiar about this sensation.

It wasn’t that there was the sensation of spiritual energy, it felt like something that only he would be familiar with.

With the Magic Manipulation Skill that he received, he was able to convert spiritual energy into mana. But this was something that only he was able to do with the help of a skill that he received from a god.

It wasn’t as if skills from gods were things that just anyone would be able to get.

So Lin Fan didn’t really understand what this sensation was.

Seeing that trace of hesitation from Lin Fan, Ashton suddenly asked, “Is something wrong?”

Lin Fan realized his mistake, so he said, “It’s nothing much. It’s just that I’m quite amazed by the arrays that you’ve put around the gate and the outer walls.”

Hearing this, a smile appeared on Ashton’s face as he said, “This is just a simple display of our products. There are others that are further in that we can show you.”

Even now, he didn’t hesitate to push the products of the Highoak Family.

If he didn’t know better, Lin Fan would have thought that they were a family of merchants rather than a family of craftsmen. Though with what they had to do to survive, it wouldn’t be strange to consider them merchants.

With Ashton Highoak leading the way, it wasn’t as if there was anyone that dared to stop them.

It wasn’t just the Highoaks alone that lived in this manor, there were others that were here as well. After all, it wasn’t as if the Highoaks alone would be able to do everything on their own.

Other than servants, there were also disciples of the Highoaks.

They were magicians who worked with arrays that bound themselves to the Highoaks to learn their techniques. At the same time, they were also using the Highoak name to give themselves prestige.

But as Lin Fan walked past them working, he could see that the teachings of the Highoaks weren’t empty.

With the teachings of the Highoaks, their arrays were indeed better than normal arrays that he saw in the Laver Empire.

It was just that none of these arrays had the same familiar sensation that the arrays at the gate had. That array was something else, that array could be considered a true special array of the Highoak Family.

“So it seems like they’re just using them as simple workers and nothing else. But then again, it isn’t as if there’s anything that these people can do about that. They have no choice since they have no talent in the first place and can only rely on the Highoak Family.”

This was something that Lin Fan could easily see since he was at a higher level than them.

The Highoak Family knew exactly what they were doing, which was why they only accepted these people that they could easily fool into doing their bidding. If it wasn’t for their lack of talent, then they wouldn’t have been accepted by the Highoaks.

Seeing that Lin Fan was looking at these workers, Ashton added, “These are only the outer workers of our workshop, they don’t represent the true Highoak quality.”

Lin Fan turned back to Ashton and gave a simple nod with a smile showing that he understood.

After walking for a while, they arrived at the main household of the Highoak Manor. This was the place that the main Highoak Family lived and where none of those outer workers were allowed to step foot in.

It could be said that this was the true lair of the Highoaks.

When he entered, he found that there were others that were waiting for them.

From the sensation that came from them and their appearance, Lin Fan could tell that these were people that were related to Ashton. Which meant that they were also members of the main Highoak Family.

Once these people saw Ashton with him, they all revealed smiles and warmly greeted him.

Ashton’s attitude represented the attitude of the entire Highoak Family after all, so it wasn’t as if they would treat him poorly. The only reason that Ashton had been sent to greet him was because he was the one that had been sent to the banquet previously.

Once they entered the manor, it seemed that Ashton didn’t really have any status among the Highoak Main Family. It seemed that he was nothing more than a junior member of this family.

The one that came forward to talk to Lin Fan was actually Ashton’s father who was the current head of the Highoak Family.

“Sir Raton, I am Daniel Highoak, the father of this one here. It is truly an honour to have you join us today.” It was the same polite greeting that Ashton had used before, which showed the Highoak Family’s attitude towards him.

Of course, Lin Fan just replied with a smile, “It’s an honour to have a chance to meet. I wasn’t certain if I would be invited with the letter that I sent, but I am glad that this was enough for us to have a meeting.”

Daniel just said with the same smile, “How could we not meet with Sir Ralot? For someone of your status, you just have to come and we would never turn you away.”

This continued on for a while before the other members of the Highoak Family were dismissed and Daniel led Lin Fan into a sitting room.

Other than Daniel, Ashton and a woman were let in.

This woman looked similar to Ashton, but she looked even more similar to Penelope.

There was no doubt that this woman was the mother of the two of them.

“This is my wife Eliza, I hope that Sir Ralot will not mind her joining us.” As he said this, there was an awkward look on Daniel’s face that Lin Fan didn’t understand.

However, it didn’t take long for him to understand why he looked like this.

“Sir Ralot, are you single?” Eliza asked without any hesitation which caught Lin Fan off guard.

He didn’t think that they would be this blunt about this, but he quickly realized why they were doing this.

In fact, it was quite genius how they had planned this.

Even though Daniel looked awkward about all of this, it didn’t mean that he wasn’t waiting for Lin Fan’s answer.

Even using his wife like this…

The Highoaks really were quite the sly family.
