It took a while, but the plan was finally put in motion.
The moment that the plan was put in motion, there was someone that suddenly barged into this building that they were preparing the array.
“Where are the members of the Highoak Family?”
The Highoak Family workers were caught off guard when they heard this.
It wasn’t because of the words that they were caught off guard, it was all because of the tone that this voice had when it called out for them. Since they had joined the Highoak Family, it had been a long time since anyone had talked to them in this kind of tone.
They just couldn’t understand who would dare to do such a thing.
After all, it wasn’t as if the Highoak Family’s prestige could be ignored.
Even workers like them represented the prestige of the Highoak Family after all, especially since they were in front of an important client like Lin Fan.
In the end, it was Penelope who went to meet this person.
She was the only direct descendant of the Highoak Family, so she was the one that had the most authority here. It was only natural that she would be the one that stepped forward to talk to the ones that were demanding to see them.
It was just that it didn’t seem to matter.
“You are the leader of this group?”
Seeing that the leader of these people seemed to ignore the fact that they were from the Highoak Family hit a nerve for Penelope. She was still a member of the Highoak Family and had pride in being from the Highoak Family.
So when someone ignored that fact like this, she couldn’t help feeling angry.
The problem was that she wasn’t someone that could fight against the ones that came looking for them.
It was a group of knights led by someone that was clearly not a normal knight. This was someone that was clearly a special knight that was either some kind of commander or captain of a knight order.
“Who are you?” Penelope held herself back and asked this question in the end.
“You are all under arrest.” The knight captain just ignored her question as he said this and waved his hand at the knights behind him.
The Highoak Family group was shocked to hear this, but they didn’t dare fight back against these knights. After all, they weren’t fighters to begin with, they were craftsmen that had been hired by the Highoak Family.
But them surrendering now wasn’t a sign that they weren’t planning on fighting back.
It was just that they knew that there was a special group in the Highoak Family that was reserved for fighting back. There was no need for them to make a move, they would leave it to those that could fight.
“You’re making a big mistake.” Penelope said in a cold voice.
The knight captain didn’t seem to care as he continued giving orders to his knights.
Once all of the members of the Highoak Family were caught, the knight captain said, “The crime that you’ve been charged with is conspiracy and treason. You will be held until we determine the truth of this matter.”
Penelope narrowed her eyes to look at this knight captain, but the look in her eyes showed that she wasn’t taking this seriously. It seemed that she was treating this as nothing more than a joke.
After all, she was confident that the Highoak Family would be able to deal with whatever this was.
So instead of saying anything to the knight captain, she turned to Lin Fan to say, “Sir Ralot, it seems like we’ve made a fool of ourselves in front of you. Please excuse us for today while we go and sort this matter out. I promise that we’ll come back and finish this soon.”
The way that she said this and the smile that she had on her face showed that she had no fear towards this knight captain at all. It was as if she was treating this as nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
The knight captain was naturally displeased to see her acting this way, but he didn’t say anything in the end.
Instead, he turned to look at Lin Fan as if he was sizing him up.
Lin Fan just calmly said, “I am nothing more than a client that ordered an array from them. As you can see, they were in the middle of setting it up for me when you rudely barged in.”
The knight captain turned to look at the array on the ground before slowly giving a nod.
Once he finished sizing Lin Fan up, he dropped this matter and turned to leave with the Highoak Family group.
While they were being led away, Penelope was still telling Lin Fan not to worry and that this matter would be sorted soon.
Though Lin Fan knew that things wouldn’t be that simple.

“Did you hear about the Highoak Family?”
“Who hasn’t heard about them? How could all of this have happened in just a single day?”
“What can you expect when they were conspiring to start a rebellion? Even if they were useful, there is only so much that can be tolerated.”
Lin Fan was listening to the gossip in the banquet hall.
After what happened yesterday with Penelope’s group, he had gathered all of the nobles in this city together for a banquet. However, it wasn’t that he was just gathering them to deepen relationships with them.
The main reason that he gathered them together like this was to see how they felt about this situation.
It wasn’t just Penelope’s group that had been captured yesterday, there were forces that had raided the Highoak Family Manor and had captured most of the Highoak Family direct descendants.
There were a few that escaped, but that was because they had been out of the city on other business. Even now, they were being tracked down and chased after so they could be brought in for justice.
Though this was only the official side.
There were those that knew that they had already been captured.
It wasn’t as if it was just the members of the Highoak Family being taken in, there were other things that were seized as well. The most important of them all was the main shop of the Highoak Family along with its warehouse.
This was where the most important items of the Highoak Family were and they had all been confiscated.
Even now, there were still those that were chasing down the assets of the Highoak Family which showed just how much they had.
Since it was the Highoak Family that was being attacked like this, it was only natural that all of the nobles would be discussing this. However, it didn’t seem like any of the nobles were planning on helping the Highoaks.
This was just how the world of nobles was.
If they knew that one was cooked, then they wouldn’t touch them with a ten foot pool. They would do all that they could to associate with them lest they be dragged down with them.
Which was why everyone was talking smack about the Highoak Family at this banquet.
Lin Fan had figured that this was the case, but there were some special observers that were at this banquet as well.
With the intelligence network of the Laver Empire, it was easy to figure out which nobles were secret supporters of the Highoak Family. It was easy to find the ones that were still on their side, but were pretending to be against them.
This was the second reason that this banquet had been called.
If the Laver Empire did something, they would make sure to be thorough about that thing and would root out any hidden dangers. They wouldn’t leave anything that could mess with their plans.
All of this had been part of the Laver Empire’s plan.
It was amazing that they had been able to arrange such a thing that had involved the downfall of the Highoak Family. Especially since this was a completely different kingdom that the Highoak Family lived in.
The fact that the Laver Empire was able to manipulate the inner workings of this kingdom to condemn the Highoak Family really showed just how much power they possessed.
At the same time, they had done it in such a legitimate way with all this evidence that even those that backed the Highoak Family couldn’t say anything. Even the magicians couldn’t just help them since it would be the same as admitting that they were committing treason as well.
The moment that they did this, they would lose everything since it would be like turning the world against them.
So even those powerful magicians couldn’t do anything when the situation reached a level that they couldn’t intervene in without destroying their own social networks.
Humans were creatures that required to be connected to others, especially when a human reached a certain level.
“The Laver Empire is truly scary. If Haku wanted to take care of me, there’s no doubt that it would be possible.” Lin Fan couldn’t help thinking this to himself when he saw the plan that they presented him.
With how quickly the Laver Empire moved, it was only a matter of time before this entire thing was settled.
The only thing that Lin Fan had to worry about now was if he would get a turn to interrogate the members of the Highoak Family. After all, they were in the hands of the Laver Empire right now.
