Chapter 287: 038: Towards the Future
Four Seasons Manor, a magical estate located on the eastern side of the Ancient Ruins, belonged to the Claire family.
Here, the climate remained constant throughout the year—warm in winter, cool in summer—making it a perfect destination for leisure and vacation. All year round, the younger generations of the Claire family often held banquets here.
Today was no exception.
Beside the picturesque hot spring pool, a long wooden table was laden with an assortment of exquisite delicacies: Phantom Mushroom Soup, Moonlight Berry Pie, Dragon Scale Roasted Meat… Each dish was luxurious enough to command a price of hundreds or even thousands of Magic Stones outside.
“Haha!”
“Dear Hans, come on, join us in the water.”
“Is the meat done roasting yet?”
A group of young men and women dressed in scanty clothing gathered here—some frolicking in the water, some enjoying their meals on the shore, while others reclined lazily on deck chairs, basking in the sunlight with an air of carefree leisure.
Among them, some were Purebloods from nearby Wizard Families, while others were invited Muggles—most of whom were strikingly attractive, with the men being handsome and the women exceptionally beautiful.
Hans, the host, lounged in the water surrounded by a group of stunning Muggle girls, engaged in a lively discussion about a recently trending topic.
“Have you heard? The bounty for the Undead Demon has reached 20 million Magic Stones!”
“Tsk tsk, that’s incredible.”
A girl wearing a thin veil gasped in awe. “I have no idea where he’s hiding. If someone caught him, they’d be rich!”
Another girl beside her rolled her eyes. “What are you imagining? That terrifying demon is said to be a Second Tier Mystic Wizard. I heard he practically wiped out an entire squad from the Law Enforcement Team at Punishment Square.” fr.e ewe.bno.vel .com
“He’s just a Muggle.”
Hans interjected disdainfully, “Using some underhanded tricks to launch a surprise attack and gain an edge. Face him in a fair fight, and he wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“A Muggle will always be a Muggle. Even if they temporarily acquire power through theft, they wouldn’t know how to use it properly.”
His arrogant tone showed complete disregard for the fact that many of the girls around him were Muggles.
“Haha, Lord Hans speaks wisely.”
“If he really had any skill, he wouldn’t still be hiding like a rat in some dark corner, afraid to come out.”
“If he dares to show himself, we’ll twist off his head.”
“Why not put a chain on him instead? A Second Tier guard dog—wouldn’t that be impressive wherever you went?”
“Haha!”
The crowd laughed loudly, cracking jokes and dismissing the feared demon as inconsequential.
“Whoosh!”
Just then, a sudden gust of wind swept through.
With the wind came a cluster of clouds that silently drifted in, obscuring the sunlight and plunging the world into a shadowy gloom.
“Where did these annoying clouds come from? They’ve blocked the sun.”
“Wait… these clouds… these clouds seem…”
Mid-conversation, everyone suddenly noticed that something was amiss. The clouds overhead were far too peculiar—and they seemed to be gathering rapidly.
“It’s magic!”
“It’s high-level magic!”
Finally,
they realized what was happening.
At that moment, a colossal bolt of lightning struck down from the ominous clouds above.
“Boom—”
A thunderous explosion rang out as the protective magic shrouding the manor shattered instantly. A massive shockwave pressed downward, causing the hot spring pool to surge violently and throwing the young revelers haphazardly in all directions.
“Ah!”
“My hand… my hand!”
“Help me…”
Screams and cries erupted across the scene. Chaos reigned in an instant.
“Look… look over there!”
“There’s… someone! Someone’s coming down!”
Just then, in the sky above, a figure began to descend—a young man with gray eyes and black hair, clad in a pure white cloak billowing in the wind.
An immense wave of spiritual power accompanied the man, instantly enveloping the manor’s courtyard.
At this point, a young girl recognized who the man was:
“Gray eyes… black hair… you’re… you’re the Undead Demon, Lynch!” she exclaimed, her face pale and voice trembling.
In a single instant, the expressions of everyone present drastically changed.
Lynch raised an eyebrow.
Undead Demon?
Is that my new nickname?
As he pondered inwardly, he wasted no time and spoke directly: “Men, stand on the left; women, stand on the right; anyone in between—die.”
“Who is the owner here, and where is your treasure house? Lead me to it.”
Wizard Calendar Year 10039, June.
After only a few months of peace, turmoil erupted once again in the Ancient Ruins—and it was because of the same wizard.
Lynch Valen, now bearing the title of the Undead Demon and freshly listed on the Supreme Wanted order.
The Black Wizard who had previously slaughtered countless Wizard Family members at Punishment Square committed another earth-shaking crime.
Within mere days, multiple Wizard Families fell victim to Lynch Valen’s raids, losing everything—from Magic Stones and materials to knowledge and treasured resources accumulated over many years.
The Ancient Ruins were gripped with fear and unease as Lynch spread chaos and left no corner untouched…
…
To the north of the Ancient Ruins, in the Shadow Whisper Canyon leading to the ruins.
“Haha, we’ve hit the jackpot, an absolute fortune!”
Standing on a clearing at the canyon’s entrance, Lynch was overjoyed as he looked at the scene before him—a towering mountain of Magic Stone Bags piled high. Each bag contained the fruits of his “dedicated efforts” from the past few days.
Magic Stones, materials, knowledge—an incalculable wealth of resources. Rare treasures usually unseen in the marketplace were as abundant as cabbages in the warehouses of the Wizard Families.
Though Lynch had long suspected the Wizard Families to be obscenely wealthy, he only realized the true extent of their fortunes when he started plundering them.
All he could say was…
“They truly deserve their title as the ruling class of this Witch Domain.”
With a snap of his fingers, Lynch summoned Barton and manipulated him to open his massive jaws, swallowing the mountain of Magic Stone Bags whole.
Due to spatial overlap causing rifts, space equipment couldn’t be stacked together. Carrying such a large number of Space Pockets was highly inconvenient. For now, Lynch had Barton devour them all, planning to deal with them later—perhaps hiding them in a secure location or fencing them on chaotic black markets.
But that would be a matter for another time; his priority now was to leave.
Days of continual plundering had created considerable mayhem and diverted the attention of the Wizard Families. Just recently, Lynch received a signal from the Scoochi Family—their reserved emblem had started to glow, indicating their success.
With the operation on their end complete, Lynch had no reason to stay here any longer.
As exhilarating as looting was, it came with tremendous risks. His seeming irreverence stemmed from the element of surprise, catching everyone off guard. But time wouldn’t favor him forever—once his enemies laid their trap with their Heavenly Net, it would be him facing disaster. Better to quit while ahead.
Standing at the canyon’s entrance, Lynch glanced back one final time at the land where he had first arrived upon entering this world.
Here, he first encountered and learned magic. Here, he laughed with friends. At this moment, memories of the past surged through his mind.
The clinking of oak mugs in the Fairy Tavern, the fiery clashes of Cross Swords at the knight training grounds, the dazzling magic performances in the Magic Classroom.
And those serene nights, leaning against the balcony railing, caressing a girl’s cheek…
All the moments—good, bad, bothersome, joyful—were now just memories that would linger in Lynch’s mind as he stepped forward into an unknown future.
“Whoosh!”
A strong gust of wind blew, lifting Lynch’s cloak. Days of bloodshed had stained his once-white cloak, leaving it dirty and ragged.
He took it off and casually hurled it into the wind.
“Boom!”
With a burst of flame, the cloak ignited instantly, fire consuming the fabric and turning it into ashes.
At the same time—
“Clink!”
A crisp sound echoed as Lynch retrieved a brand-new cloak from his Space Ring and put it on—a black cloak.
Black as ink, dark as an abyss.
Without lingering further, Lynch turned and walked toward the canyon—and toward the world beyond.
He walked toward the future.
