Chapter 308: 021: From the Tower of Nature
As Lynch pushed open the heavy metal door, a surge of concentrated magical energy swept over him the instant he entered the treasure house. It felt as though the entire space was whispering ancient secrets. Inside the treasure house, the atmosphere was spacious yet dim, illuminated only by the soft glow emitted by magical crystals embedded in the walls, casting light over the mountains of wealth and knowledge piled within.
What first caught Lynch’s eyes was the row upon row of towering bookshelves on one side of the treasure house. The shelves reached up to the ceiling, neatly packed with countless thick magical books. A rough glance revealed a number that easily exceeded hundreds, perhaps thousands.
“Does this little wizard really have so many?”
At first, Lynch thought he must have been mistaken. After all, Tristan’s spiritual field earlier had clearly been that of someone newly advanced to the wizard level. Based on the information Lynch had gathered, Tristan hadn’t occupied this Witch Domain for long and hadn’t had a chance to develop it yet. Lynch assumed there wouldn’t be much accumulated wealth to speak of.
Still puzzled, Lynch walked to the bookshelves for a closer look. The covers of these books were made of ancient leather, engraved with intricate runes and patterns, emanating faint magical fluctuations that clearly indicated these books were far from mere decorations.
“They’re real!”
Excitement surged in Lynch’s heart. He hurriedly picked up one of the books and opened it. Before his eyes were neatly inscribed runes. At the same time, a system notification sounded in his ear:
[Discovered First Ring category of knowledge: “Heart of Natural Elements,” loading complete.]
[Heart of Natural Elements lv0: 0/10000]
Wizard Level!
Lynch hadn’t expected the book he picked up on a whim to be of Wizard-level knowledge. Was it sheer luck? Or perhaps…
A possibility quietly surfaced in Lynch’s mind, causing his heartbeat to quicken with excitement.
He immediately began pulling out book after book to inspect. With each discovery, Lynch was nearly overcome with joy to the point of physically jumping with excitement.
The Wizard-level “Breath of Nature.”
The High-level Apprentice-level “Soil Nutrient Cultivation Comprehensive Guide.”
The Wizard-level “Nature Affinity.”
Even a Secret Skill-level “Earth’s Fans”…
“Oh, my heavens!”
Unable to contain himself, Lynch exclaimed in awe. Fortunately, Alya had stayed by the door instead of following him inside. Otherwise, his image as the cold and stoic figure would have completely crumbled in this moment.
It was simply too shocking.
Not only was the collection vast in quantity, but its quality was extraordinarily high. Among the books Lynch picked at random, over a third were of Wizard-level, while even the Apprentice-level ones contained exceedingly rare and elusive categories of knowledge.
“Nature element…”
“So that’s it. This Tristan must have come from the Tower of Nature. He probably struck it rich during the chaotic collapse of the tower back then.”
This theory helped Lynch make sense of it all. Otherwise, it would be hard to fathom how a newly advanced wizard could have accumulated such a wealth of knowledge. The contents of this collection alone rivaled the foundational treasures of some Wizard Families.
“Haha, when good fortune comes, there’s simply no stopping it!”
A rough estimate suggested that fully absorbing this knowledge could significantly advance the progress bar of the Knowledge Furnace. Even if it couldn’t yet unlock the second stone gate, it shouldn’t be far off.
Glowing with happiness, Lynch turned his attention toward the other portions of the treasure house.
The space of this treasure house was roughly a thousand square meters, with the bookshelves and knowledge taking up only a third. The rest was occupied by towering piles of materials of various kinds.
Moonlight Gems, Thunderstruck Wood, Dragon Scale Powder, Star Sand, branches of the Tree of Life… Lynch’s gaze methodically swept over these precious magical materials one by one, stirring waves of emotion within him once again.
Each of these materials was rare and valuable in the Wizard World. Some were even Second Tier or Third Tier materials, treasures that even High-level Wizards would struggle to obtain, yet here they were—piled up like little mountains.
“I’m rich! Unbelievably rich!”
Converted into Magic Stones, the value of these items would amount to an astronomical number. With his current standing, Lynch’s net worth had likely multiplied tenfold, perhaps even dozens of times over.
Placed in a region of Ancient Relics, these treasures might not compare to top-tier families like Tavendish, but they would undeniably outmatch the likes of Second or Third-class Wizard Families such as Scoochi.
Just as Lynch was still immersed in joy, his gaze shifted and fell upon an artifact located deeper within the treasure house.
At the deepest part of the treasure house stood a stone pedestal. Atop the pedestal rested a horn, its entire body a deep bronze hue. The horn was slightly curved, the tip sharp as a blade, while its base was engraved with spiraling runes.
The surface of the horn was covered in fine, scale-like patterns. Each “scale” was inscribed with tiny runes, interconnected to form a complex magical network that radiated a chilling energy fluctuation.
“This looks like…”
“A secret skill!”
Lynch’s heart trembled. Right before his eyes was undoubtedly a piece of Mystical Witchcraft.
His gaze dropped lower.
Engraved on the stone pedestal was a row of small letters that read:
Call of Nature.
…
While Lynch was busy receiving Tristan’s inheritance within the tower, outside, Greywell had completed the integration and consolidation of Feiyan City’s factions and forces.
The process went exceptionally smoothly. Considering Greywell had already been the strongest force within Feiyan City, his previous retreat had been only because of the intervention of Transcendent-level power. Now that extraordinary power stood by his side, Lucien was universally detested. Even those inwardly against Greywell wouldn’t dare openly oppose him.
The only trouble came from a handful of Lucien’s former allies—those vile, power-hungry parasites who shared Lucien’s philosophy of brute force. Together with Lucien, they had committed countless atrocities, deeply binding their fates to his.
However, Greywell had been prepared for this. As soon as he secured control, he swiftly moved to purge these elements—killing when necessary, capturing when possible. Though there were sporadic moments of resistance, none amounted to anything significant. By the end, all but a few scattered escapees had been rounded up.
Thus, Lucien’s faction came to a definitive end.
With the old order dealt with, Greywell quickly established new governance. He announced Lucien’s betrayal and restored the Old Count’s lineage as the legitimate authority, thereby reinstating Feiyan City’s prior order.
The one slightly tricky matter was that all of the Old Count’s children had been murdered by Lucien. Ultimately, following Lynch’s instructions, Greywell selected a successor from among the Old Count’s many illegitimate children. Legitimacy immediately faced pushback from some nobles, who had their own aspirations regarding the choice of the Earl’s successor.
Within a week, Greywell completed his purge of the old forces and build-up of new ones. While it would take time to fully clean up and consolidate the intricate web of relationships within the city, stability had largely been achieved…
A week later, at the tower.
Inside a room, Lynch was seated on a chair, with a crystal ball placed on the table before him. Within the ball resided a faintly transparent figure—none other than Feiyan City’s slain Lord, Count Lucien.
The day Lucien was executed, Lynch had stumbled upon an unusual trait in Lucien’s soul. Unlike typical souls that disintegrate upon death, Lucien’s soul remained intact, preserving its structure in full.
Well-versed in Soul Study, Lynch instantly recognized that Lucien’s soul was a rare Super Resilient Soul Body.
Super Resilient Soul Bodies are rare phenomena wherein souls, upon death, do not get claimed by the rules of willpower. The exact reason remains unknown, but wizards theorize it’s tied to the unique resilience of their souls. Such souls are colloquially referred to as Super Resilient Soul Bodies.
Ghosts, specters—
Most of the tales commonly circulated in the Mortal World are thought to originate from these types of soul bodies.
“Crackle, crackle!”
A sharp sizzling sound echoed as tiny sparks leaped from Lynch’s fingertips. Under his precise control, these electric currents repeatedly infiltrated the crystal ball, striking Lucien’s soul within. The torment elicited constant cries and wails of agony.
Super Resilient Soul Bodies are exceedingly rare. Upon discovering Lucien’s soul exhibited this trait, Lynch decisively trapped it within a Soul Crystal, bringing it back for study to evaluate the feasibility of cultivating a Hateful Vengeful Spirit.
Cultivating such a soul body into a vengeful spirit is an extremely challenging endeavor, requiring prolonged torture while maintaining the subject’s conscious thought. Years or even decades may pass without success.
But no matter—Lynch had plenty of time. For now, he would amuse himself with the soul’s anguish. Watching tiny figures dance under bursts of lightning had its share of entertainment…
At the desk, Greywell was reporting on recent progress:
“The Lord Castle’s inventory review is complete…”
“Gold coins and treasures have temporarily been stored in the vault. Male members…”
“As for the remaining female relatives, there are thirteen in total—three of whom are Lucien’s daughters, while the others are mainly his mistresses, many of whom were either enslaved or abducted. Shall I send them to you, or…”
Without looking up, Lynch replied casually, “I don’t need them here. You figure out how to settle them. Population resources aren’t trivial matters.”
Greywell nodded, “Understood.”
“By the way…”
He hesitated for a moment before speaking: “Are you certain about the Earl’s successor? If it comes to it, I could fabricate some legitimacy along with backing from other nobles to formalize his identity—it would be much smoother overall.”
Lynch had not only chosen an illegitimate child to inherit the title but had outright prevented Greywell from garnering noble support to authenticate the child’s claim. This would undoubtedly spark intense opposition from the nobles.
While they might not dare openly rebel against Lynch’s extraordinary power, they could certainly make Greywell’s governance slow and chaos-ridden, potentially plunging the city into disarray.
The optimal solution would involve a degree of compromise by adhering to traditional rules.
However, Lynch clearly had his own plans.
Shaking his head, Lynch said, “No need to discuss this further. Follow my instructions as stated.”
The decision pertained to the framework Lynch had envisioned for the Witch Domain and the new rules he intended to set for the territory. There was no room for negotiation.
Sighing audibly, Greywell conceded: “Very well.”
After a pause, he added, “By the way, what about the Princess? Would you like to meet her? She’s downstairs right now.”
Lynch’s ambitions for his Witch Domain extended far beyond Feiyan City alone. To engage in greater territorial expansion and political maneuvering, certain diplomatic conveniences were necessary. Hence, Greywell had intentionally brought in a member of the royal bloodline.
Specifically, this was Karina Greenst from White Bay Territory, who had traveled to Feiyan City seeking aid from Lucien.
Greywell advised, “She should meet her new master.”
Lynch replied, “Then let her come up.”
