Chapter 322: 035: Celebration and Beginning
After the war ended, in Feiyan City, at night.
The night was cool as water, with a dazzling starry river.
At the very center of Feiyan City’s square, a high bonfire had been set up. The crackling sound of the firewood echoed in the night breeze, and the high flames illuminated the night brightly.
Beside the bonfire, young girls formed a circle, dancing around the flames and singing heartily. They wore fresh garlands on their heads, with money grass woven into their braids. Sparks fell with their dance steps, forming floating spots of light in the hot air rising with the flames.
The men sat around the bonfire, enjoying the girls’ dances, occasionally whistling, drinking sweet wine, and eating the delicious meals roasted over the fire.
Deer, wild wolves, rabbits, wild boars…
These beasts that launched attacks on the city were now turned into delicious delicacies.
“Haha, I was really brave, killing three bears on my own.”
“You should thank the Master Wizard; magic saved you three times. Otherwise, you’d now be in pieces, haha.”
“Praise magic, praise the Master Wizard!”
Everyone drank and celebrated this hard-won victory.
If they had been distrustful of magic and the newly established government of Greywell before this, then after the end of this beast tide, they sincerely believed in it.
If such a terrifying beast tide could be defeated, what else could stand in their way?
The people were full of confidence!
On the other side of the square, Lynch did not join the celebration. Instead, he stood alone under the starry sky, looking up at the starry river above.
After learning the “Moon Eclipse’s End Sigh”, Lynch gained a deeper understanding of the Heavenly System spells.
The stars of this world were not just stars. Their movements continuously generated energy, which attracted each other. The movement of every star affected and changed other stars.
It is said that mastering the rules of these stars’ movements is equivalent to mastering the truth of the world, able to understand the past, and even predict the future through the movement of the stars. Divination is a specialized discipline in the Wizard World, and it holds considerable popularity here.
Although Lynch was not very keen on divination, which currently lacked a reliable theory and whose success rate seemed questionable, he was very interested in the operations among the individual stars of astrology.
According to the deconstruction of the Heavenly System magic, each star’s movement also brings different effective energy fluctuations. These energy fluctuations are closely related to wizards. Mastering these energy fluctuations is very beneficial, whether for cultivation, experimentation, etc.
For example, when the star Mercury is at its brightest, it’s when its energy fluctuations are most intense. Its movement affects the activity of all water elements, and magic using the water element can be enhanced to a certain degree during this time.
Do not underestimate such an enhancement. If one can perfectly grasp each node of the star energy fluctuations, the spellcasting amplification is very powerful, possibly exceeding 30%.
“Master Wizard!” At this moment, an elderly voice called from afar.
Greywell was seen walking unsteadily toward Lynch in the night, with a little boy of about four or five years old beside him.
Lynch withdrew his gaze: “Why don’t you join the others in celebrating?”
Greywell shook his head: “I’m old. Let the young people enjoy such lively events.”
Lynch chuckled: “Why belittle yourself? On the wall, I didn’t think you were an old man. Your bravery was in no way inferior to the younger people.”
During the previous battle, to boost morale, Greywell himself took to the field and fought against wild beasts several times, even personally slaying a wolf.
Greywell laughed: “That’s only because of your magic buffing.”
Indeed,
If Lynch hadn’t cast buffing magic on him, his old bones would have been fortunate not to be carried off by the wolves.
Lynch’s gaze fell on the little boy beside Greywell: “And who is this?”
From the looks of it, he seemed to be Greywell’s grandson, but their appearances weren’t similar. The little boy’s skin was dark and rough, and his hair was dry and straw-like, thin and small, not appearing of noble birth.
Greywell didn’t directly answer but first spoke to the boy: “Erwin, this is the Master Wizard, our lord.”
The little boy, though young, was not at all shy like other boys his age, his big eyes flickering with lively light.
Upon hearing Greywell’s words, a look of realization flashed in his expression, and he stepped forward, kneeling before Lynch, placing his forehead to the ground, and said humbly: “Master Wizard.”
Lynch raised an eyebrow, finding this little boy unusually quick-witted for his age.
Greywell continued explaining to Lynch: “I discovered this kid in the city. He’s very clever, smarter than many children I’ve seen. I think he has great potential, so I brought him with me.”
After a pause, he added: “I’m getting older, and though I wish to serve you forever, I know we will part one day. After me, there must be a suitable successor to complete my unfinished works; there’s still so much to do in this city.”
Lynch glanced over Greywell’s head, indeed finding such preparation necessary.
The development of a Witch Domain doesn’t yield results overnight. It requires generations of effort and dedication. Lynch could wait through the long river of time, but Greywell didn’t have that kind of time.
Lynch’s gaze returned to the boy, then he bent down, picking him up: “Is your name Erwin?”
Erwin nodded: “Yes, Master Wizard, my name is Erwin Kano.”
Lynch nodded: “Stay close to the Governor, make efforts to observe and learn, there’s still much to do in this city. The future will need you all to accomplish it, to change it, strive for it!”
After the beast tide ended, Lynch did not delay further and began advancing the plan to excavate the ruins step by step. These buried underground for nearly ten thousand years, the brilliant essence crystallized by the powerful Wizard Civilization over countless years,
finally reached the time to see the light of day again…
…
On the other side, at the place of the Ancient Relics.
The war in the Seven Kingdoms was still ongoing, filled with rivers of blood, white bones piling up, and famine everywhere. More than half of humanity had perished in this war, and the cruel conflict had pushed the people’s endurance to the limit.
Everyone did not want to continue any longer, did not want to follow the nobles’ orders and fight for so-called family honor, did not want to charge and die on the battlefield following knights, did not want to find nothing to eat and end up gnawing on bark, eventually starving to death.
The people were tired, generally feeling such a world was terrible, terribly in need of change.
Dark Forest, Shadow Tower, top floor.
Witch Master Hall.
In the spacious hall, the Shadow Lord, one of the four strongest in the Ancient Relics land, and this land’s Order Maintainer, Erodion, was observing the Rune Star Map at the hall’s center.
Outside the gate stood two rows of Transformed Knights with strength comparable to Great Knights, as well as Alchemy Magic Statues of equal power, highly vigilant.
The turmoil of the Human World had alarmed the Wizard World. Although wizards generally did not interfere in human world wars, when conflict reached this scale and caused such high death tolls, it was something they could not tolerate.
Wizards were preparing to convene the Judgement Wizard Meeting to discuss matters related to the human world’s war.
This was the highest-level wizard meeting in the land of Ancient Relics, attended by the three major White Wizard Organizations, the Black Tower Alliance, and various Wizard Families of the Ancient Relics. Erodion was aiming to predict the outcome of this meeting as much as possible before it convened.
And…
Whether he could achieve his desired results, for this was crucial to him…
“Clack, clack, clack!”
At this moment, a series of footsteps echoed, and from the dark corridor ahead, a figure slowly walked forward, shrouded in a black cloak, seemingly engulfed in the surrounding shadows.
“Halt!”
A stern voice rang out, and the Transformed Knights intercepted the newcomer with their sharp swords.
“Teacher… I need to see you.” A hoarse voice sounded from under the cloak, with two magic fire pits standing beside, the firelight flickering across the hood, illuminating the face within.
It was Erodion’s Inheritance Apprentice, Leonard von Aistheim.
Erodion waved his hand, and the surrounding knights withdrew their weapons, clearing the path.
Leonard walked into the hall, stopping just ten steps from Erodion.
Erodion spoke: “Go ahead.”
Leonard hesitated, scanning the surroundings and glancing at the Transformed Knights.
Erodion glanced at him, then waved his hand again.
The knights instantly retreated, leaving only Erodion and Leonard in the hall, merely ten steps apart.
Yet Leonard seemed to find this distance still too far and continued approaching Erodion.
Ten steps…
Five steps…
Three steps!
In a moment, Leonard stood less than three steps from Erodion, each muscle contour on his face visible.
In the vast hall, only the two of them remained, with no barriers between them.
“Thunk!” A sound echoed.
Leonard halted his steps, stopping less than a meter from Erodion.
Then…
He raised a finger, swiftly drawing a cross over his chest, then bowed devoutly toward Erodion, saying: “Father!”
