Chapter 362: Chapter 36: Truth
Lynch gazed at the black spire piercing the sky, feeling a slight sting as the mountain wind, laden with magic energy particles, brushed against his cheek.
The Tower of Order, he had long heard of its great name.
Currently, although various witch domains in the Wizard World often experience wars, plagues, and other forms of chaos within, overall, they maintain peace in the larger scheme, with little warfare between domains.
One must know that this is an unusual thing, given there are several hundred domains, many of which are closely connected. In theory, they should have been at each other’s throats long ago for their respective interests.
The main reason for not doing so is right in front of us, the Tower of Order.
They are spread across many regions of the world, possessing overwhelmingly powerful strength. Whenever a domain attempts to act irregularly, they would unhesitatingly intervene and deal with that domain.
Decades ago, when Jade Land invaded the Kassen Corridor, they eventually willingly regurgitated the fat piece they had swallowed, due to the critical role played by the Tower of Order. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been so compliant.
It’s just…
In Lynch’s long-held understanding, the Tower of Order should be sacred, righteous, a great existence that constructed the order framework of the Wizard World. No matter how it’s promoted, it always appears upright.
But now…
If I’m not mistaken, are these guys stealing from the mine?
The Jade Ridge, according to the rules, is Jade Land’s resource area. How it is mined should be decided by Jade Land’s own wizards, and the act of mining by foreign domains is theft.
Of course, one might say there are reasons, like cooperating with a certain wizard organization in Jade Land, which could be an explanation.
Regardless of the justification, for something that serves as the foundation of order to engage in such activities is somewhat demeaning, conflicting with their usually established image of grandeur and righteousness.
Lynch asked, “Is this what you wanted me to see?”
Justice, of course, isn’t very just.
However, Lynch wasn’t blindly believing the rumors from the Land of Freedom initially. The sight before him merely confirmed Lynch’s inherent perception of a wizard organization: interest comes first, which is normal.
But if this alone is to make him abandon the idea of cooperating with the Land of Freedom, I’m afraid…
Seren shook his head, “That’s not all.”
Pausing, Seren pointed to the wagons transporting mined stones and asked, “Do you know where these stones come from?”
Lynch took a look.
These are all freight wagons, pulled by large magic beasts like Dragon Lizard Beasts and Earth Dragons, obviously coming from an extraordinary influence, and a sizeable one at that.
Before Lynch could answer, Seren explained, “See, those two wagons are from Witch Castle, that batch, that batch is from the Dark Moon Church, and those over there are from the Dark Emblem… those are from…”
He enumerated all the Eight Great Wizard Organizations of Jade Land.
After hearing Seren’s explanation, Lynch furrowed his brow, understanding what this hefty fellow intended to convey.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “Have they been cooperating for a long time?”
Seren replied, “Longer than you imagine.”
He paused, gazing at the black high tower in the valley below, and slowly said, “Jade Land, with merely a Three-Ring Wizard Organization, whose strongest person is just a Three-Ring Wizard, yet possesses such a rich magic stone mine, isn’t that tempting?”
“Ever since this magic stone mine was discovered three hundred years ago, countless wizard organizations have had their eyes on it; Jade Land and the Kassen Corridor always fought each other, do you really think it was just for trivial matters?”
Perhaps standing made his back ache due to his weight; he paused to find a large stone to sit on before continuing:
“Long ago, wizards from the Land of Freedom approached Felvin from the Tower of Nature, trying to establish cooperation, but the offered terms never satisfied Felvin, leading to his merciless rejection.”
He turned to Lynch with a smile and added, “So, Felvin, gone.”
Lynch was taken aback.
The implied meaning behind Seren’s words couldn’t be more obvious.
He frowned, “Speaking requires evidence; do you have any proof?”
Seren rolled his eyes, “What more evidence is needed? The Tower of Nature is at least a Three-Ring Wizard Organization, Felvin’s Natural Domain is renowned throughout the Wizard World.”
“To make him vanish without a trace… do you know what level of power is needed to achieve that?”
Indeed…
The further down the Wizard’s Road, the exponentially stronger one becomes. Take Lynch, for example; faced with a powerful enemy, he might not win, but it’s certainly not easy for others to kill him either.
He’s merely a Second Tier, whereas Tower of Nature’s Felvin was genuinely a Third-tier Domain!
There are, of course, many in this world capable of killing a Third-tier wizard, but to do so without them even leaving a trace, a mere footnote in history: ’died suddenly’…
Such power is exceedingly rare worldwide.
Seren continued, “Even if we step back and say Felvin is dead, but the order and domain he forged remained. Yet, the entire Jade Land fragmented and fought among themselves in a short time, do you think that’s a coincidence?”
Lynch remained silent.
Seren carried on, “See that tower? Since the excavation of Jade Ridge, the Land of Freedom proposed establishing the Tower of Order here, but Felvin never agreed, even causing a huge rift between both sides.”
He looked at the high tower below and said, “Felvin always tried to keep the magic stones of Jade Ridge within the resource site, attempting to exchange this enormous amount of magic stones for enough resources to break through numerous barriers to explore the Fourth Tier, trying to use these magic stones to cultivate wizards within his domain, to develop it.”
“Initially, he indeed made some progress, making this remote domain famous for a time, attracting many wizards which brought resources and precious knowledge.”
“But all this was merely illusory.”
Seren scoffed, “Strength is the foundation of everything; a resource site without strength is merely fish on someone else’s chopping board. Felvin foolishly believed everything could be resolved through the Supreme Council, believing everyone would abide by rules and order.”
“But didn’t he realize, where does order come from? Who grants it?”
Seren said, “In this world, there aren’t so many rules; all transformations boil down to one ultimate rule: strength is the greatest rule!”
“This is the eternal and unchanging truth of the world!”
