Chapter 417: Chapter 18: Experiment
The development of the Witch Domain is proceeding vigorously.
After finishing the arrangements with Erwin in the Human World, Lynch began to take charge of the reception work in the Extraordinary World.
The first task was the allocation of resources.
Apart from a few Magic Stone Mines, Lynch took stock of the situation. The Dark Moon Church controlled 23 resource areas of various sizes, three of which were of the Second Tier Level, while the rest were below the Second Tier, with the lowest yield areas only reaching the Apprentice Level, encompassing Magic Plants, Demons, resource minerals, and more.
The classification of a resource area is mainly based on the value of resources produced, element density, etc.
Take the Magic Plant resource area, for example: if it can cultivate Second-leveled materials, then this resource area is equivalent to a Second-tier resource area. Similarly, this applies to other Demons and resource minerals.
These resource areas are currently controlled by the people of the Dark Moon Church. Now that this area belongs to him, it is naturally necessary to reclaim them.
The spiritual power expenditure to conquer this territory was essentially for these resource areas.
The task of reclaiming the resource areas has been assigned to Bruno by Lynch. Knowing how to adapt, Bruno, the former elder of the Dark Moon Church, as the first high-level individual to pledge allegiance to him, naturally must be given sufficient use.
Lynch understands the principle of valuing talents like gold.
“The status, resources, and treatment you received from Tarim will remain unchanged here. In addition, after reclaiming these 23 resource areas, you can select one Wizard-level area from which to extract ten percent as your fixed income share.”
This is the promise Lynch made to Bruno.
Although Bruno was an elder in the Dark Moon Church, in reality, his authority was quite limited. Sometimes, he even had to find his own cultivation resources.
As a Witch Master of the Dark Moon Church, in Tarim’s eyes, everything in this Witch Domain was his private property. Resource areas, mines, the Human World, even apprentices and wizards, including a high-level wizard like Bruno, were seen this way.
To him, they were merely tools, devices for his use, so it was impossible to invest much in them, let alone share his domain’s wealth with them.
This wasn’t unique to Tarim; indeed, most Wizard Organizations in the Wizard World operated this way. The huge disparity in strength means that those in power seldom see those below them as equals, and generally, those below live in a dependent relationship.
In some sense, this is normal, as the resources easily accessible to those in power are rare treasures greatly coveted by those beneath.
Roshi’s willingness to share his wealth is mainly due to his special circumstances.
The Underground City he wants to excavate is too vast, and he cannot complete this grand project alone, requiring considerable manpower for assistance. Thus, sharing is appropriate.
Moreover, Lynch was raised with the ideals of modern civilization. While solo efforts might have sufficed before, as an upper-level figure now, excessive exploitation and oppression are inappropriate.
…
A few days later, in the Misty Forest, Guardian Tower.
In the laboratory, Lynch was busy at the long experiment table, and beside him, his assistant, Little Annie, was bustling around as well.
“Give me the Alchemy Compass.”
“Yes, teacher.”
“Is the rune structure for Alex ready? Hurry up, I’m waiting to activate the Bloodline.”
“Right away, teacher.”
Annie did not waste her excellent Magic Talent and lived up to Lynch’s expectations. After relentless cultivation, she had already broken through the apprentice barrier and advanced to the Wizard Level, now a genuine wizard.
Considering that it had only been over twenty years since Lynch found her, Annie’s biological age isn’t even thirty yet.
A formal wizard under thirty is quite remarkable anywhere in the Wizard World.
“Here you go, teacher, the rune has been integrated into the blood factor.”
Annie handed over a glass vessel with her small hand.
After advancing to wizard, Annie had access to much deeper wizard knowledge. Lynch sometimes called her to help during experiments, partly to improve efficiency and also to provide her with knowledge and experience.
“Alright.”
Lynch took the vessel and placed it on the table, then pointed to a sheepskin scroll beside him without looking up and said, “See if you can understand these drawings.”
Annie stood on tiptoe, picked up the paper with her small hand, and slightly puzzled, asked, “This… looks like an altar?”
Lynch nodded: “It seems there’s no problem then.”
He paused and continued, “Bring your Frankenstein out, take him outside, and build this altar for me according to the drawings. Do not make errors in the structure or runes. Get the materials from the warehouse yourself.”
“Okay.”
Obediently rolling up the sheepskin scroll, Annie rushed outside with her little footsteps.
Although her strength had increased, her height and physique hadn’t changed at all, remaining as they were when Lynch first met her. There’s no help for it; that’s a characteristic of Dark Advance, allowing apprentices to become wizards a few years earlier but leading to restraint in biological age.
After advancing to wizard, she could, in fact, start unlocking it gradually, but the relevant part of the legacy was not within Lynch’s grasp at the moment, so for now, Annie could only engage in Deep Meditation, and future solutions will come with time.
“I’ll look for a chance to return to the place of Ancient Ruins later.”
But that’s a matter for the future, as Lynch hasn’t forgotten why he came here.
Despite his current strength improvement, it’s still insufficient to consider returning. Not to mention, back then at the Punishment Square, Reo could still easily defeat him now.
He must have at least self-preservation ability before considering returning.
However, there’s no rush, Annie just needs to follow a systematic meditation routine. Besides, maintaining her childlike state a little longer might be good — making up for a deprived childhood.
“Tadadada!”
The crisp sound of footsteps echoed as Annie quickly ran out.
Lynch continued with his experiment.
Before him was a glass vessel containing a blood sample. This wasn’t from a high-level demon but from a human or rather, a Knight.
A Knight’s blood sample.
This sample is directly related to Lynch’s subsequent advancements with the Adventurer Guild, and further expansion of the Underground City relic.
“It all depends on this experiment…”
“I must succeed!”
