Chapter 423: Chapter 24: Occupation
Soon after, in Feiyan City, the Black Mist Jungle.
After nearly a year of recuperation, the Black Mist Jungle gradually began to recover. New green shoots sprouted from the vegetation that had been scorched by the fire.
The places previously reduced to ruins by Tarim’s self-destruction under the Dark Moon Church have also been rebuilt with new structures, though their scale has significantly shrunk compared to before.
The tall Wizard Tower in the center still stands there. This was once the Dark Moon Wizard Tower used as the hub by the Dark Moon Church, but now it belongs to Lynch’s sphere of influence and has been renamed the Moon Tower by him.
Everything is progressing in an orderly manner according to Lynch’s plans… except…
Some directions are not going so smoothly.
Moon Tower, Witch Master Hall.
In the spacious Witch Master Hall, two rows of a dozen braziers crackled with flames. In the deepest part of the great hall, two rows of cloaked wizards stood opposed beneath the stone columns on either side.
The left side appeared visibly younger in age, led by Lynch’s apprentice, Regga. Those standing behind Regga were all from the Feiyan City faction.
On the opposite side stood individuals with a noticeably more solemn demeanor. Regardless of age or strength, they were evidently stronger than Regga and his group. These were the original wizards of the Dark Moon Church, with the high-level wizard Bruno, the earliest to join Lynch, standing foremost.
Though Lynch handed the management of the Dark Moon Church over to Bruno and other local wizards of the organization, relying solely on them could lead to a monopolistic situation, potentially creating insubordination for Lynch.
Thus, after careful consideration, Lynch transferred a group of transcendent individuals from Feiyan City. Regga, having recently been promoted to a wizard, was sent to lead the team to help manage the Dark Moon Church.
The power balance between the two sides is actually disproportionate. The Dark Moon Church consists entirely of wizards, with Bruno being a high-level wizard with strength second only to Second Tier, whereas on Regga’s side, besides himself as a newly promoted wizard, all others are mere apprentices.
However, there is no alternative, as the cultivation of transcendent beings takes time. These are the initial batch cultivated since the establishment of Lynch’s Witch Domain, and time has been too short, naturally unable to compete with the established power like the Dark Moon Church.
Lynch did not expect them to balance the opposition, merely using their presence to remind Bruno and the local powers of the Dark Moon Church who truly stands behind them.
In the deepest part of the hall, Lynch sat on an iron chair.
He stroked his chin and puzzled, questioned Bruno: “You’re saying… Dragon Sleep Valley refuses to submit to us? As well as Mood Forest and Flame Cave?”
The progress in reclaiming resource sites encountered a bit of difficulty, as several resource locations chose to refuse Bruno’s attempt to subdue them.
Lynch, confused, said: “I don’t quite understand why these resource sites are refusing us. Are they die-hard followers of Tarim, planning revenge for him, or are they still worried Tarim might make a comeback?”
What puzzled him even more was that the stationed wizards of these resource sites previously communicated very well with him. Lynch originally thought there would be no problems, but unexpectedly, when it came down to it, they changed their minds.
Bruno stepped forward, frowning, and said: “I believe there might be other forces intervening.”
“I know Carret very well, he’s not one to be stubborn. When I talked with him before, he was welcoming and seemed ready to hand over Dragon Sleep Valley to me anytime. Yet, when I visited again the other day, he suddenly became firm and openly refused me.”
“The same situation happened at the other two resource sites, their changes seemed to happen in an instant.”
Lynch was taken aback.
He frowned and asked: “Do you know who might be interfering?”
At this moment, a middle-aged wizard stepped forward and explained: “If it’s about these resource sites, then it might be the Pure White Tower and the Forest Surroundings.”
“Dragon Sleep Valley and Mood Forest border the sphere of influence of the Pure White Tower, while the Flame Cave is close to Forest Surroundings. Previously, we had many conflicts with these two wizard organizations over these resource sites. Over the years, the stationed wizards have developed many unclear relationships with them.”
“At this time, if there were forces interfering from behind, it would most likely be these two wizard organizations responsible.”
Lynch furrowed his brows.
Indeed, things would not go so smoothly. But thinking about it, it’s understandable, as Jade Land itself is a web of complex relationships with no stable or reliable order. The temporary peace exists merely because no one can fully overpower the others.
Now, with Tarim eliminated by him, the Dark Moon Church becomes a juicy piece of meat without an owner, and inevitably, those with the chance will try to take a bite.
Lynch queried: “Pure White Tower and Forest Surroundings? How strong are they?”
Bruno replied: “Not at all inferior to us. The Witch Master of the Pure White Tower, Anderson, and the Kano Wizard of Forest Surroundings, both are Second Tier Mystical Wizards. They were once apprentices of Felvin from the Tower of Nature, ranking higher than the Lord of Dark Moon before.”
“Moreover…”
“Over the years, they’ve each cultivated more than one Second Order Wizard within their respective forces.”
Lynch, surprised, said: “Is the gap that large?”
Throughout the entire Dark Moon Church, Tarim was the only Second Tier Mystic, yet right next to them, these two wizard organizations have more than one mystic wizard. The power disparity between them is overwhelmingly large.
Lynch asked curiously: “Why didn’t they have any inclinations towards you before?”
Bruno replied: “Of course they did.”
“Wars between us have erupted more than once. The current borders were formed after the war skirmishes, after all, while we have a power gap, the difference is limited. If they insisted on conquering us, they would pay dearly as well.”
This time, Lynch’s attack had the element of surprise; no one expected Feiyan City, a force that always flew under the radar, to suddenly rise and catch Tarim off guard, leaving him with no contingency plan and leading to his abrupt downfall.
But organizations like the Pure White Tower and Forest Surroundings are ever vigilant.
“Additionally…”
After a pause, Bruno added: “There is another crucial factor that indeed ensures that we maintain peace by entering into agreements with each other.”
Lynch raised an eyebrow and asked: “Is it because of the Order Tower?”
