Chapter 458: Chapter 23: Skeletal Remains of the Ancient Era
Feiyan City, Wizard Tower.
Square
“Uh… are you saying this was brought by the adventurers? Discovered in the ruins?”
“Yes, teacher, the adventurers exploring there found this thing buried in the ground and reported it to us immediately. After I went to see it, I thought you might be interested, so I took the liberty of bringing it back.”
On the wide open square of the Wizard Tower, a skeleton was lying there at the moment.
It had arms and legs, a complete humanoid skeleton, but it wasn’t a mere human remains, for it was truly gigantic, perhaps several hundred meters long from head to toe, clearly one of the legendary——
Giants.
Lynch nodded and said to Regga, “Well done.”
“Leave this skeleton to me, you can go about your business.”
“Yes.”
Regga quickly left, and Lynch’s gaze returned to the enormous skeleton before him.
According to Regga’s description, this skeleton was discovered by adventurers in the ruins, but not in the Underground City below. It was found buried in the surface earth.
Being too conspicuous, the adventurers reported it to the guild immediately, and the guild, in turn, informed the Wizard Tower. Regga identified its nature quickly and brought it back.
After all, this is a complete giant skeleton!
The Giant Clan was once a powerful race that had been active in the Wizard World for a long period. They possessed considerable strength, with adults reaching Third Tier strength, and a few could even grow to Fifth Rank levels.
With such formidable power, giants were once an existence comparable to the Dragon Clan.
However, for some unknown reasons, the Giant Clan gradually declined, and now only a few communities co-exist with the Dwarf Clan, with their size being far less than their ancestors.
In ancient times, it was common for giants to grow over a hundred meters tall, but nowadays, even those reaching twenty or thirty meters are considered large, and their individual strength generally doesn’t exceed the Third Tier, being classified as a Second Tier race.
The reason behind the decline of the Giant Clan remains a mystery, with theories ranging from wars with other races, to being wiped out by wizards for being pawns of the gods, or resulting from marriages with the Dwarf Clan…
Remarkably, there is no reproductive isolation between the massive giants and the small dwarves, with specific studies and even a dedicated book penned by a wizard about how they manage to mate, citing giants’ ability to adjust the size of their reproductive organs to suit dwarves… getting off-track.
In short,
Giants are now very rare, and ancient giants over a hundred meters tall are exceptionally scarce specimens.
“This skeleton came at just the right time!”
Looking at the skeleton before him, Lynch couldn’t help but sigh.
His Soul Cultivation had reached a promising stage. Once he cultivates a complete soul, he would need a vessel to accept it. Choosing what body to carry this newborn soul was a crucial decision.
The vessel itself couldn’t be too fragile. Typical skeletons have limited capability. If placed inside one, rejection might cause a spiritual explosion, causing the soul to be fine, but the skeleton to collapse instantly, which would be a waste.
But if not using a skeleton, he didn’t know what else to use. After all, the soul he planned to cultivate was using a human as a sample. It didn’t have to be human, but should at least have a similar structure; otherwise, if the soul solidified into another form, it would be unclear how to proceed with its fostering.
The giant skeleton before him was just right. With Third Tier strength, it was more than capable of carrying the soul Lynch cultivated, and its structure was similar enough to humans to avoid issues post-cultivation.
“Let’s take it back first!”
Lynch reached out with his right hand and with a ’boom!’ captured a wisp of ghostly blue Soul Flame.
He pursed his lips, then threw the flame onto the skeleton on the ground.
“Boom!” The flames quickly spread across the skeleton, flowing along its limbs and soon sinking into the bones, quickly establishing countless threads of connection between the skeleton and Lynch’s Spiritual Sea.
“Boom!” Another ghostly blue Soul Flame flared within the giant skull.
With a thought, Lynch mentally commanded: Rise.
“Click, clack!”
The sound of bones moving crisply rang out as the massive skeleton slowly stood from the ground.
Lynch experimented by issuing various commands to the giant, including walking, running, and other natural movements, even fighting maneuvers like punching and kicking.
This involved using spiritual power to simulate the Soul Flame’s basic control over a Dead Spirit, determining how many actions could be performed depending on how much of the body’s muscle memory remained.
For example, a farmer’s skeleton manipulated by Undead Magic could handle farming tools expertly, but commanding it to wield a Cross Sword would be impossible as the farmer never handled such a thing in life.
One exception is the Caster’s ability to forcefully control with personal will. If Lynch used his battle experience, even a farmer could perform fancy swordsmanship under his direct control.
Of course,
A farmer’s bone strength couldn’t handle Lynch’s Martial Arts either, probably collapsing after a couple of spins.
In general,
Undead Magic, no matter the method of resurrection, doesn’t create a complete soul, just a relic of pre-death consciousness incapable of extending self-awareness.
But Artificial Souls are different.
If these things were indeed made, they would possess self-awareness. Be it a farmer or blacksmith, they could think, learn, and even cultivate themselves to become stronger.
When an Artificial Soul with self-awareness merges with powerful Power of Faith, and endowed with a formidable body…
Lynch couldn’t even imagine just how powerful this creation of his dreams could be.
“What would this be?”
Lynch felt that labeling his creation as ordinary wizard artifacts seemed inadequate, whether biological composites, alchemy creations, or magic creations. None seemed to encapsulate what he intended to create.
If forced to find a word to describe it, Lynch thought it would be, and could only be——
Divine!
