Chapter 705: Chapter 11: Knowledge Law
This name, as if possessing magic, penetrated through millennia of time and ice-cold will.
The aura around Naples, ordinarily calm, suddenly stalled, as if a frozen lake had been struck by a giant stone. Although there was no evident movement, the surrounding space subtly distorted, revealing that his inner turmoil was far from calm.
Gulwige seized the opportunity, his tone heavy: “She has already waited in the other world for too long… If, and I mean if, we old guys exhaust ourselves here, and something unexpected happens…”
“Then she and all those left behind will truly have no hope of returning. You will never see your daughter again.”
“Natalia…” This name lingered in Naples’ heart, carrying endless longing and heaviness. Another long silence followed, as if an entire century had passed.
Finally, Naples’ thoughts emerged once more, still carrying the icy restraint of a Tower Guardian, but something seemed to shift deep inside: “…As a Tower Guardian, I will never actively interfere with any trial process within the Tower. That is the bottom line.”
However, he subtly shifted his tone, hinting at an almost imperceptible concession: “But… the souls ’leaving’ the Lost Tower indeed fall under my jurisdiction.”
His thoughts became clear and firm: “If… and I merely say if, something ’unfortunate’ transpires within the Tower, I can guarantee to preserve his soul intact and deliver it into your hands. This is the only ’help’ I can offer without violating my duty and oath.”
This was not Gulwige’s initial hope for full support, but it was the most crucial assurance that could be achieved without touching Naples’ bottom line.
Across the starry rift, Gulwige fell silent, seemingly weighing the value of this promise.
Eventually, his thoughts came with a complicated sigh, carrying a hint of helplessness and a hint of relief at achieving the minimal goal: “…Alright. Keep the soul safe… at least, hope will not be completely extinguished. Thank you, Naples.”
The rift began to slowly contract, and the magnificent starry view gradually narrowed and dimmed.
“Remember your promise.” Gulwige’s final thoughts came, and then, the rift completely closed, and the space in the square returned to its original state, as if nothing had ever happened.
Only Naples remained seated under the vortex, the shadow of his hood deepened, and no one knew what he was thinking at this moment. Only the footsteps of the faceless ones still wandered silently.
…
Time silently passed in focused cultivation and battle, hard to measure how long exactly had gone by, perhaps a few years, perhaps longer. Lynch’s figure had already stepped into the ninetieth floor of the Lost Tower.
The scene here was desolate and dead, as if some force had utterly drained all vitality. The vast wasteland stretched endlessly, the ground was cracked and ashen, barren of any plant life, with only jagged rocks and scattered pale bones of unknown creatures.
The sky, gray and low, seemed perpetually shrouded in a layer of undispersed dust, and the air was filled with a faint stench and a bone-deep chill.
This barren, deathly aura reminded Lynch of the ruins and dark underground cities of the past, but here the stillness was more complete, more oppressive, as if it were the grave of the entire world.
At this moment, in a corner of the wasteland.
Lynch’s figure weaved like a ghost, the Ifrid’s Sword in his hand tracing fiery arcs.
His opponents were five tall skeleton warriors, their bones exhibiting a dark metallic sheen. Blue ghostly fires burned in their eye sockets, and they moved swiftly and coordinated, their rust-stained bone blades brimming with death energy, tearing the air with piercing howls.
Amidst the assault, Lynch appeared at ease. He did not employ large-scale spells, but instead concentrated his strength to the utmost. With a slight misstep, his form predicted and precisely avoided all slashes and thrusts. His great sword, burning with flames, parried, poked, or cleaved – each collision bursting with blinding light and the crackling of shattering bones.
The scorching flames and holy purification power naturally countered these undead creatures, each strike leaving scorched marks and fractures on their hardened bones.
Spotting a gap, a sharp light flickered in Lynch’s eyes. As he sidestepped a powerful overhead slash, Ifrid’s Sword followed an upward cut, precisely severing the arm joint of the skeleton wielding the sword. At the same time, a gray shimmer flickered at his left fingertips —
[Touch of Decay]!
The strand of ultimate decay power instantly penetrated the chest cavity of another charging skeleton, rendering its sternum and even the core ghostly fire gray and fragile in an instant, its movements suddenly freezing.
Now!
Lynch flipped his wrist, the great sword swung across, unleashing a condensed crescent-shaped flame sword qi, like the scythe of the Death God, sweeping instantly around!
“Crack! Crack-snap! Boom!”
The consecutive sounds of shattering and explosion erupted almost simultaneously. The five skeleton warriors, as if reaped wheat, burst into pieces in an instant, their hard bones severed by the sword qi and blasted apart by the flames, the ghostly fires in their eye sockets fiercely flickering before extinguishing completely, leaving remains that smoked black on the ground.
The fight ended cleanly and swiftly.
Almost at the same moment the last spark of ghostly fire extinguished, a cold and familiar system notification sound timely resonated in Lynch’s ears:
[High-level Soul Structure Comprehension Skill Level +3]
[Negative Energy Core Annihilation Technique Skill Level +5]
[Kinetic Structure Application Skill Level +2]
Lynch exhaled gently, the flames on Ifrid’s Sword gradually receding.
Then,
he focused, summoning the system panel and glancing over the Knowledge Law section that represented his core power.
[Space Law lv13]
Staring at this line of data, even Lynch couldn’t help but feel a touch of emotion.
This is where the terror of the Lost Tower lies. The enhancement of Knowledge Laws is far more challenging than the accumulation of spiritual power, demanding a profound understanding and comprehension of the essence of universal rules, with each level of progress representing a massive threshold.
If in the outside world, relying on self-contemplation, poring over ancient books, or occasionally gaining insights through scant battles, attempting to elevate Space Law by thirteen levels would likely require decades to hundreds of years, possibly never to be achieved in a lifetime.
However, here, through relentless challenges and defeating those magic creations containing Rule Fragments, vast amounts of highly condensed domain knowledge were forcibly instilled, absorbed, and integrated. Coupled with the absolute concentration environment provided by the Time Hut, this created such a stunning speed of growth.
And the surprises brought by the Lost Tower were far from over.
His gaze drifted downward.
[Time Law lv8]
[Decay Law lv11]
That’s right!
The domain knowledge gifted by this magical Tower was not limited to his main focus of Space Law. Whether it was the mysterious Time Law or the Decay Law representing the source of his power, as long as the corresponding magic creatures were defeated, he could gain corresponding, exceptionally pure rule insights and skill level advancements!
Through this, his three core Knowledge Laws had achieved what could be described as a leap in progress during these long and fulfilling years within the Tower. Every increase in law proficiency enhanced the precision of his power control and his combat capability grew geometrically.
Furthermore, as he moved up to higher levels, the magic creations he encountered grew increasingly powerful, the Rule Fragments they contained ever more profound, and this efficiency of knowledge extraction not only did not slow but continued to increase daily!
