10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 139: Trying
Amon and Felicia were the only ones left in the area after the workers had packed their equipment and departed.
Amon stood beside his bike while Felicia remained a short distance away.
They quietly looked across the fields that would soon become the foundation of their business.
The evening breeze moved through the grass, carrying the faint smell of freshly turned soil across the empty farmland.
Felicia glanced toward Amon. "I still want to kill you."
Amon chuckled nervously. "If you kill me, who’s going to find more mana-rich lands for you?"
Felicia didn’t answer. She simply continued staring at the land, her pale golden eyes reflecting the fading sunlight.
For a while, neither of them said anything before Felicia finally spoke. "I raised Seraphina with everything I had."
Amon quietly listened.
There was no teasing in her voice now, and the usual serious, playful attitude she carried around him had completely disappeared.
"After I killed her father, things became difficult." Felicia’s gaze remained fixed on the distant horizon.
"Taking care of her while keeping the business running wasn’t easy. There were times when I had to choose between what I wanted and what was better for her."
She paused before continuing. "I sacrificed a lot because I wanted my daughter to have a better future than I did."
Felicia looked toward him. "I don’t want her life to be ruined."
Amon remained silent for several seconds before finally answering.
"I understand your perspective." He paused for a second, putting his words together. "But I still don’t like the way you keep trying to stop your daughter from having what she wants."
Her expression became slightly colder. "You will break her heart one day."
"I’m everything but a heartbreaker." Amon shook his head. "I care about her more than you think."
His voice was quieter this time. "I might joke around a lot, but I wouldn’t deliberately do something that would hurt her."
Felicia stared at him for a moment before slowly walking toward him.
She stopped directly in front of Amon, grabbed the collar of his shirt, and pulled him closer.
Her golden eyes locked onto his. "If you ever make my daughter cry, I’ll kill you."
"Then stay by her side." Amon didn’t look away. "You can even live with us if you want. That way, you can keep an eye on me yourself."
Felicia stared at him for another moment before pushing him away.
She turned around and walked toward her car. "I wouldn’t let you touch me."
Amon watched her walk away. "What would make you fall for me?"
Felicia stopped beside her car. She opened the door and looked back at him over her shoulder. "Keep trying."
Amon’s eyes widened slightly.
Before he could say anything else, Felicia got inside the car and closed the door.
Amon stood there as the car slowly drove away, leaving him alone in the quiet farmland.
He watched the vehicle disappear down the road before letting out a long sigh.
"That woman is dangerous." Amon walked toward his bike and climbed onto it. "But I got her blessings, I guess?"
He started the engine and drove away.
---
Amon parked his bike beneath his apartment building and stepped off.
The streets were quieter than they had been earlier, with only a few pedestrians moving beneath the glow of the street lamps.
He walked into the building and eventually reached his apartment.
After unlocking the door, Amon stepped inside.
The first thing he noticed was the smell of food coming from the kitchen.
He walked farther inside and found Ambrosia standing near the counter.
She noticed him almost immediately. Her face turned slightly red, and she quickly looked away.
Amon stopped for a moment.
He remembered what had happened the previous night and sighed. "Are you still upset?"
Ambrosia kept her attention on whatever she was preparing. "I was never upset."
Amon raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
"Really."
She continued working without looking at him.
Amon walked closer before stopping a few steps away. "I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable."
Ambrosia finally looked at him.
"I wasn’t uncomfortable." She hesitated before adding, "I was just...weirded out."
Amon nodded slowly. "That’s fair."
Ambrosia looked away again, her cheeks still slightly red.
For a moment, the kitchen became quiet except for the soft sound of food cooking on the stove.
Amon sighed again and walked inside the kitchen until he was close to her. "Are you really not upset?"
"No." She shook her head. "I mean...what you did was only natural."
"Well..." Amon hesitated. "I just couldn’t control myself."
’...Hm, let’s see how she will react,’ Amon thought to himself.
He lowered his head and mumbled. "But maybe, I shouldn’t have done that while thinking about my mother."
"Foster mother." Ambrosia instinctively corrected him. "I-I mean, it’s still wrong but...."
She sighed with a pinkish blush and kept on cooking without looking at him.
Amon looked at her.
Her dress sat loosely on her shoulders, the material shifting with every small movement and outlining the natural curve of her breasts whenever she leaned forward.
"You’re still red," he said.
Ambrosia’s hand paused on the spatula. "I’m standing near the stove."
"The stove isn’t that hot."
She didn’t answer. Amon stepped closer until only a small gap remained between them.
The flush on her cheeks deepened, spreading faintly down her neck.
She turned the heat off and set the pan aside, giving herself something to do with her hands.
"Don’t you have a girlfriend." She whispered. "Why do all that...."
"Why not?" Amon shrugged. "Why can’t I think about you while doing it."
"Because it makes it hard to look at you afterward."
Amon reached out and gently took the spatula from her hand, setting it on the counter.
She stayed still as he stepped fully into her space.
The soft fabric of her dress brushed against his shirt.
Amon lifted one hand and rested it lightly against the side of her waist, feeling the heat of her skin through the thin material.
Ambrosia didn’t pull back. Her eyes flicked down to his mouth for a fraction of a second before returning to his.
"...What are you doing?" She asked looking away.
"Trying my luck." Amon replied gently.
Amon’s hand on her waist slid a little higher, thumb tracing the curve of her side.
The thin dress did nothing to hide the warmth of her body or the way she leaned almost imperceptibly closer.
He could feel the soft press of her breasts against his chest with every small breath she took.
"Amon....." Ambrosia’s hands came up and rested against his chest for a second. "Not yet."
Though disappointed he pulled back and smiled. "As you wish my lady."
Ambrosia hesitated for a second, her hand curling and uncurling on his shirt.
With a tired sigh, she turned around. Amon gave her back one last glance before he walked away.
