Chapter 143: Indecisive Woman
[Ambrosia’s POV]
’....What should I do about my stupid son?’
Ambrosia sat quietly in her room, slowly cleaning the surface of her desk while her thoughts kept returning to the same subject.
She had been trying to decide what she should do about Amon.
However, the more she thought about it, the more complicated everything seemed to become.
Part of her wanted to reject the strange erotic tension between them completely and return to the comfortable relationship they had always shared.
Another part of her, however, wanted to understand why things had started feeling so different and why she couldn’t simply dismiss the feelings as nothing.
There was no denying that she cared deeply about Amon, but she was hesitant to take any step that could damage the relationship they had built as a family.
’I can’t just go on with this.’
Ambrosia sighed and opened her closet, hoping that organizing her clothes would help clear her mind.
She pulled out a few garments and folded them neatly before reaching toward the back of the closet.
’It was only a few days ago when I tired to seduce my son...’ Ambrosia thought to herself. ’...What would have I done if he did accepted my advantages?’
She had no idea. Ambrosia reached for it, but her hand stopped halfway.
She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. ’My brain wasn’t in the right place that night and it was all because of my ovulation phase.’
She slowly shook her head before returning to cleaning.
As she moved a few things aside, something caught her attention. A picture frame was lying near the back of the closet.
Ambrosia froze for a moment before carefully picking it up.
She wiped the dust from the glass with the edge of her sleeve, revealing an old photograph from her wedding with Gordon.
She stared at the image for several seconds.
The woman in the photograph looked happy, or at least she remembered being happy at the time.
Now, looking at it after everything that had happened, the memory carried far more weight than it once had.
Ambrosia’s expression became complicated.
"What should I do?" Her voice was barely louder than a whisper.
She let out a long sigh and lowered the picture slightly.
For a moment, she considered putting it back exactly where she had found it.
Then another thought entered her mind.’ Should I even keep this?’
She wanted to move forward.
She wanted to start a new life without constantly allowing Gordon’s memory to influence every decision she made.
But throwing away the photograph also felt like throwing away a part of her own past.
Ambrosia bit her lip before finally placing the frame back inside the closet.
She slowly closed the door. "What an indecisive woman I am."
She shook her head and walked toward the mirror.
Her hair was still tied into the loose bun she had made earlier, with several strands hanging around her face.
Ambrosia reached behind her head and removed the hair clip, allowing her hair to fall naturally over her shoulders.
She ran her fingers through it and carefully fixed the strands around her face.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she straightened her clothes and tilted her head slightly.
Her appearance hadn’t changed as much as she sometimes imagined.
Her features were still graceful, her eyes remained bright, and there were only a few faint signs of age around the corners of her eyes.
A small smile appeared on her face. "I’m not that old."
She immediately felt slightly embarrassed after saying it aloud.
Ambrosia cleared her throat and turned away from the mirror.
She left her room and entered the living room, where she found Sidney sitting comfortably on the sofa while watching television.
Sidney barely glanced at her before returning her attention to the screen.
Ambrosia began tidying the hallroom, picking up a few things that had been left on the table and straightening the cushions on the sofa.
Every now and then, she quietly glanced toward her daughter.
After several minutes, she finally spoke. "Sidney."
"Hm?"
Sidney continued looking at the television.
Ambrosia hesitated before asking, "How can you have a crush on someone so close to you?"
Sidney immediately paused.
She slowly turned her head and looked at her mother. "Why are you asking me that?"
Ambrosia’s expression stiffened. "I-I was just wondering."
Sidney studied her mother for a moment before shrugging.
"Feelings aren’t exactly something you can control." She turned back toward the television.
"Sometimes you just start liking someone, and trying to ignore it doesn’t necessarily make it disappear."
Ambrosia frowned slightly.
Sidney continued casually. "And it’s not exactly difficult to understand why someone would find him attractive."
Ambrosia’s expression became annoyed. "That doesn’t mean you should simply follow every feeling you have."
Sidney shrugged. "Maybe."
Ambrosia placed another cushion neatly against the armrest. "Society would never accept a relationship like that."
Sidney looked at her mother again. "Who gives a fuck about society?"
"Language!" Ambrosia immediately glared at her.
Sidney sighed and leaned back against the sofa. "Fine."
Ambrosia quietly adjusted the cushion again before speaking more calmly.
"What you’re doing is wrong, Sidney. Some boundaries exist for a reason, and ignoring them simply because you have feelings isn’t always going to end well."
Sidney remained quiet.
After a few seconds, she stood up and walked toward her room. "I understand."
Ambrosia watched her leave without saying anything else.
Once Sidney disappeared down the hallway, Ambrosia sat on the sofa and leaned back.
’...Why am projecting my own insecurities on my daughter?’ She thought to herself. ’... Wouldn’t it be better to just give her my blessings and hope for her happiness.’
"..."
Ambrosia instinctly made a longing face. ’...But I don’t want to give away Amon...’
She quickly shook her head with a faint blush on her face.
She closed her eyes and allowed herself to breathe slowly. ’I’ll talk to him. I’ll make sure everything returns to normal.’
She had already decided that she couldn’t allow the awkwardness between them to continue.
Whatever strange tension had developed, she needed to put an end to it before it damaged their relationship permanently.
Just as Ambrosia was about to stand up, her phone suddenly rang.
She opened her eyes and looked at the screen.
The name displayed there immediately caught her attention.
Felicia.
Ambrosia stared at the phone for a moment before answering the call.
"Hello?"
Felicia’s voice came through the other side. "Ambrosia? This is Felicia. Amon gave me your number."
Ambrosia straightened slightly. "Yes, he mentioned that you might contact me."
"I heard you have experience with legal matters involving mana-rich land."
Ambrosia glanced toward the hallway before answering. "I do. Tell me what you need."
