Chapter 65: Old Rowan’s Suspicion! Is the Mercer Family an Ancient Imperial Clan?

Just as Nolan Mercer’s killing intent continued to rise, a young member of the Kessler Family began looking around the courtyard.

When he spotted Nolan, his eyes lit up, and he hurried over.

"Nolan, people from your Mercer Family have arrived. They’re currently in the council hall. The Patriarch sent me to call you."

Nolan, whose thoughts had just been interrupted, looked stunned.

Why would someone from the Mercer Family come here at a time like this?

Had something important happened?

A sense of unease suddenly rose in his heart.

He dropped the broom and hurried toward the council hall.

...

Not long afterward, Nolan arrived at the hall.

Quite a few people had already gathered inside.

At a glance, he spotted Kessler Family Patriarch seated in the main chair.

Beside him sat Warren Mercer, the Patriarch of the Mercer Family branch, and a black-haired young man who looked about his own age.

Who is that?

Nolan’s gaze lingered on the unfamiliar young man.

At that moment, Ethan noticed someone looking at him. He raised his head slightly and glanced at Nolan.

After examining him briefly and finding nothing unusual at first glance, Ethan withdrew his gaze.

But just then, Old Rowan’s voice suddenly sounded inside Ethan’s mind.

"Young Lord, your cousin is not as ordinary as he appears."

"Oh? What do you mean?"

A trace of surprise appeared in Ethan’s eyes as he questioned Old Rowan through their mental connection.

"Hehe. From what this old man can tell, your cousin has already reached the Bone Tempering Realm Ninth Layer."

Ethan was immediately surprised.

According to Warren Mercer, Nolan’s physical foundation and aptitude were extremely poor. His cultivation speed had been painfully slow, and every step forward had required twice the effort.

Even with the resources left behind by Alistair Mercer, the Heavenly Origin Realm expert who had once protected the branch family, Nolan had only reached the Blood Tempering Realm Ninth Layer after several years of cultivation.

But how long had Nolan been staying with the Kessler Family?

In such a short period, he had quietly crossed an entire major realm and reached the Bone Tempering Realm Ninth Layer!

His cultivation speed was even faster than Ethan’s and Adrian’s progress had once been.

Could it be that the rumors about Nolan’s poor aptitude were wrong?

Perhaps, instead of being an ordinary cultivator, he was a hidden genius whose talent had never been discovered.

Thinking of this, Ethan’s interest in Nolan grew.

Old Rowan was also curious about the sudden change in Nolan’s cultivation.

He immediately released his powerful perception to examine the young man.

As his perception, which had reached the Celestial Human Realm, penetrated deeper, the relaxed expression on Old Rowan’s face gradually disappeared.

It was replaced by solemnity.

This young man is strange.

According to Old Rowan’s investigation, Nolan’s physical foundation was indeed terrible.

Under normal circumstances, he would likely remain stuck in the Meridian Opening Realm for the rest of his life. Breaking through to the Heavenly Origin Realm would be almost impossible.

Yet, despite such a poor foundation, he had advanced from the Blood Tempering Realm Ninth Layer to the Bone Tempering Realm Ninth Layer in just a few days.

Such a leap in cultivation was beyond common sense!

Just as Old Rowan was struggling to understand what had happened, a terrifying aura suddenly erupted from deep within Nolan’s body.

This... this aura!

Old Rowan’s pupils contracted.

His expression changed drastically, as though he had just seen something terrifying.

Without hesitation, he withdrew his perception and instinctively retreated into the corner of the ring.

He had discovered something extraordinary.

The immense power hidden within Nolan’s aura was already comparable to the power he had sensed from Adrian Mercer in the past!

Clearly, just like Adrian, Nolan was a person blessed with extraordinary Fortune and immense Karma. His destiny was no ordinary one. He possessed Fortune and Karma that reached beyond the Saint Realm!

If Nolan’s cultivation had not been so low, making it difficult for him to conceal the strange aura within his body, Old Rowan might never have discovered his secret.

Old Rowan wore a bitter expression.

He could not help sighing inwardly.

First, there was Julian Mercer, the Clan Head.

Then came Ethan, Adrian, and now Nolan.

A single Mercer Family had produced four extraordinary individuals with immense Fortune and remarkable destinies.

This was simply beyond his understanding!

Could there be something special about the Mercer Family bloodline that he had never discovered?

As his thoughts raced, an astonishing possibility entered Old Rowan’s mind.

Could the Mercer Family actually be an ancient Imperial Clan that had declined over countless years and gradually disappeared from the world’s attention?

...

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Feeling Ethan’s gaze lingering on him, Nolan could not help frowning.

Then, when he noticed the meaningful smile on Ethan’s face, his entire body stiffened.

His heartbeat seemed to slow.

An absurd thought suddenly appeared in his mind.

Could this young man have seen through my cultivation?

Nolan’s expression changed. Shock and suspicion filled his eyes.

But before he could think further, the voice of the Kessler Family Patriarch broke the silence.

"Back then, you were afraid of the Ironclave Order’s power, so you allowed Mara to bring Nolan back to the Kessler Family."

"Considering our past relationship, I did not refuse. I was even willing to risk offending the Ironclave Order to shelter the mother and son."

He paused and looked at Warren.

"But now Mara is dead, and you want to take Nolan back. Shouldn’t your Mercer Family give us an explanation?"

Warren knew that the matter was difficult to explain. He quickly cupped his fists.

"Patriarch, we truly had no other choice. The Ironclave Order is powerful, and you know the situation our branch family was in back then. If we had provoked them, we would have been unable to resist. Sending Mara and Nolan to your family was our only way to protect them. I hope you can understand."

He continued,

"As for bringing Nolan back, this time the order comes directly from our main family. Our Clan Head has commanded every branch family to return to Crownfall Mountain and reunite with the main family. Not a single member is to be left behind. Therefore, Nolan must return with us."

Hearing Warren’s firm tone, the Kessler Family Patriarch looked displeased.

He was about to say something, but suddenly remembered a piece of information.

The words stopped at the tip of his tongue.

Crownfall Mountain?

The name sounded familiar.

The Kessler Family Patriarch furrowed his brows and searched his memory.

His family operated numerous merchant caravans and maintained trade routes with the surrounding cities.

Not long ago, one of those caravans had brought back news about the sudden rise of the Crownfall Mercer Family.

The information had spread through countless people, so some details were incomplete.

He knew that the Crownfall Mercer Family had become a powerful force, but he had never understood its connection to the Mercer Family branch in Quenton City.

Now, hearing Warren mention Crownfall Mountain, he began to suspect something.

Could the main family settled on Crownfall Mountain be the very same Crownfall Mercer Family that everyone has been talking about?

Wanting to confirm his suspicion, the Kessler Family Patriarch suppressed his excitement and looked at Warren.

"Crownfall Mountain? I remember that your main family used to live in Wexford City. Am I mistaken?"

Warren immediately explained.

"You’re right. Our main family once lived in Wexford City. However, some time ago, our Clan Head ordered the entire family to move to Crownfall Mountain. That mountain has now become the new home of our main family."
