Chapter 2737: Chapter 2737: Step by Step into Her Heart (Part 1)

Tingye’s long fingers brushed her cheek; the cold at his fingertips made his brows knit. He reached out and pulled her into his arms. "With me here, no one dares hurt you!"

"How did you end up coming?" Meimei lifted her small head, her face still very pale. Her little hand clutched the front of his shirt, and when she thought of what had just happened, she still felt a lingering fear.

If he hadn’t shown up in time, she’d probably be lying in a hospital right now.

"The text you sent me, I saw it." Tingye suddenly tightened his arms and held her firmly against his chest. His dark eyes closed; recalling that scene just now, a wave of panic swept through his heart.

If he’d been even a little bit later, he didn’t even dare imagine what would have happened to her!

"Text?"

Only then did Meimei remember that when she first arrived and felt something was off, she had sent him a text. It was just that she never imagined Zhong Qing would lie to her, so she hadn’t even mentioned where she was. How did he know, and how did he get here so fast?

"Your text came way too suddenly, and it was obvious you were waiting for me, but we hadn’t arranged anything. So my first reaction was that someone had used my name to ask you out, and I had Yao look into it."

Tingye saw the doubt in her eyes and spoke lightly.

Fortunately, he’d been suspicious and picked up on the anomaly so quickly. If he’d just treated it like an ordinary text, she probably wouldn’t be lying safely in his arms right now.

"Today’s party was a setup Zhong Qing planned against you. You don’t have to take a single word they said to heart. Leave it to me to deal with." Tingye was silent for a moment, then spoke again.

If he didn’t bring it up, she probably wouldn’t tell him on her own.

The moment he saw her face go white, he knew she really did care about what those people said.

Tingye pressed her tightly against his chest. "They don’t know anything. You know perfectly well we’re not blood-related. You’re only my cousin in name."

If she dared use that as an excuse to push him away, he swore he’d wring her neck!

"But what they said was true. Legally, we really are cousins..."

Meimei hung her small head, all her fingers twisting together.

Her voice was very soft, like she was so anxious she didn’t even want to face it, mumbling as she spoke.

"Cousins, my ass! Yu Xin, do you even know what you’re saying?" Tingye grabbed her chin and forced her to lift her head and look at him.

He only called her by her full name when he was really angry, and not "Meimei."

"I was just talking. It’s not like we’re together now anyway, so why are we even discussing something this weird? I’m really hungry, can we go get something to eat?"

Meimei put her hands together and looked at him pitifully.

As soon as she said she was hungry, her little stomach very cooperatively let out two loud growls.

"..."

Tingye’s deep black eyes stared hard at her, trying to find some trace of a lie on her face, but he couldn’t.

She was dead set on avoiding the question just now, and there was nothing he could do with her.

Tingye slammed a fist into the car seat, turned his head to look out the window, and called Yao up to drive.

"What do you want to eat?"

"Spicy street snacks. And it’d be perfect if I could have a couple sips of beer." Meimei’s beautiful big eyes narrowed, looking at him full of hope.

She looked just like a little puppy begging its owner for a bone.

"Your stomach’s empty and you still want spicy food?" And what kind of habit is drinking beer on top of that?
