Chapter 481: Chapter 422: Resisting Fear and the Journey Home

"Let me see your totem."

Silver Fox raised her left hand. She had only given it a cursory glance earlier. This time, as she and Guan Tong examined it closely, they noticed the double-triangle totem was much dimmer than when she first received it, looking as if it had lost a thick layer of color.

Silver Fox said in surprise, "Was part of the totem consumed just now?"

"Looks like it."

Each totem Guan Tong gave out was created by condensing his Psychic Power at its upper limit, which was a little over one thousand.

The fact that the totem in Silver Fox’s hand had faded so much meant that in just those few seconds, the power of the Crimson Fear had almost completely depleted the Psychic Power it contained. Without the effect of Wenren Yizhi’s black chess piece, the drain would have been even greater.

Silver Fox took the black chess piece from her inner jacket pocket and was stunned by what she saw.

The piece had cracked in two.

Silver Fox felt a wave of fear in hindsight. ’Just a few seconds of exposure, and the chess piece cracked while the Stability Anchor Totem was mostly drained... Crimson Fear—no, the power of a Rule is truly terrifying!’

Guan Tong, standing to the side, was lost in thought.

’The Shadow Anchors I give to others contain just over a thousand points of Psychic Power at most.’

’But if I use them myself, I can continuously channel my Psychic Power reserves into the anchor to maintain its effect.’

’Does this mean I could create more anchors to help others, or even try to explore that unknown element within the Crimson Fear?’

...But this wasn’t the time to be thinking about that.

Guan Tong looked ahead, where several Annihilators were demonstrating their awesome power, having already wiped out the invading Cultist Legion.

The legion, a joint force of Parasites and Cultists, had been virtually powerless against these killing machines.

A thought involuntarily surfaced in Guan Tong’s mind: ’If the Annihilators targeted me, could I disable them by firing an Electromagnetic Pulse Bomb from the Silver Hunter?’

With the battle all but decided, he was slightly tempted to try. But considering they were allies, he ultimately decided against it.

Just then, several helicopters flew in from the direction of the city. They were the official Ascender reinforcements sent by Soloma.

After Guan Tong and the others explained the situation, they handed over the remote control for the Annihilators and boarded a helicopter to head back.

Their mission was complete. The clean-up could be left to the reinforcements.

WHIRRRRRRR—

The same propeller noise that had filled their ears on the way here returned, only this time, the passengers were no longer on edge, but relaxed.

On the way there, the situation had been uncertain and the dangers unknown. Now, returning victorious, their mindset was completely different.

"Did we just save over a million lives?" Yang Ran squirmed in his seat, his excitement written all over his face. "This is way more awesome than filming a variety show! But man, it was seriously dangerous. Good thing our teammates—and our captain—are so strong!"

Silver Fox gave him an encouraging smile, then looked down at the girl resting in her embrace. Chen Na had kept her [Perception Realm] active for too long and on too many targets. It wasn’t just her Psychic Power that was drained; her physical stamina was also completely exhausted, and she had now fallen fast asleep.

Shangyuan Zi had put her oversized sunglasses back on, hiding her expression from everyone.

Bai Xuewu said nothing. This wasn’t her first time on the battlefield; she wasn’t as overwhelmed by emotion as Yang Ran was.

However, this battle had made her truly understand why Li Meng once said Guan Tong was the strongest member of the team. ’His abilities aren’t just powerful, they’re comprehensive—so comprehensive that even my [Snow White Traceless], with all its modules, pales in comparison.’

She glanced at Guan Tong. Just like on the ride over, he was gazing out the window, his expression so calm that he looked nothing like someone who had just come through a vicious battle.

’If this team could stay together...’ she thought, ’we could probably complete any mission, no matter how difficult.’

But she immediately dismissed the thought. Zhang Minglu had told her long ago that Guan Tong wasn’t affiliated with the Strategy Research Room; this team had been formed temporarily for a joint operation. Once their collaboration was over, the team would naturally disband.
