Chapter 108: Chapter 108: The Coveted Pension

"Since you’ve already abandoned Xiao Lin and Xiao Chen, why not just write a letter of severance? You should know that they have a share of the pension. If you sever ties, you won’t need to worry about them coming back to find you." Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at Lu Feng and then turned to Song Hong.

"Yes, yes, yes, write a letter of severance. Later, you must give me a big, chubby boy. As for these two sons, give them away, we’ll have our own." Zhang Dajun eagerly hoped Song Hong would sever ties; otherwise, what if these two boys came back for money?

Their father’s pension couldn’t be divided among these two brats.

"Listen to Dajun." Song Hong blushed, happily responding.

She showed no attachment to Lu Lin and Lu Chen, her eyes set solely on Zhang Dajun, fantasizing about her future good days with him.

"Then let’s find the village chief." Zhang Dajun said impatiently.

"No need to look, I’m right here." The village chief, who had been silent like a transparent person, suddenly spoke, making everyone aware that the village chief had been standing under the tree all along.

"Village chief, you’re here! Perfect timing, let my daughter-in-law sever ties with the two boys she had with her former man. We won’t be raising them." Mother Zhang saw the village chief and, unsurprised, waved and smiled.

Fu Xiaoxiao widened her eyes. No wonder she felt something was missing; the village chief who had led them had been here all this time?

"You want to sever ties, right?" The village chief took out a notebook from his chest and wrote three letters of severance against the tree trunk.

"Alright, put your fingerprint!" After writing, the village chief came over with a stamp pad from his chest for them to use.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the village chief’s chest in surprise, wondering where he had gotten the stamp pad.

Also, does the village chief always carry a notebook and stamp pad?

Fu Xiaoxiao’s gaze was too blatant, prompting the village chief to glance at her and explain casually, "You’ll understand when you become a village chief."

It was evidently standard practice.

When Lu Lin and Lu Chen saw Song Hong put her fingerprint, the two children stepped forward and pressed their fingerprints forcefully.

"Everyone gets a copy." Having completed the process, the village chief went forward, pressed his fingerprint, tore off the_three pages, and handed them to the three individuals.

This skillful handling made Fu Xiaoxiao quietly admire.

How many years of experience did it take to deal with matters so calmly, carrying all necessary items?

"Alright, from now on, take care of yourselves, act like I’m not your mother. Don’t blame me; I’m helpless. As you can see, I already have a new home." Song Hong put away the letter of severance and spoke to Lu Lin and Lu Chen.

"We haven’t considered you our mother for a long time." Lu Lin coldly said, turning around to hold Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand.

Song Hong was stunned, her expression miserable.

"Hmph, ungrateful wretches. Just like your father, unreliable." Song Hong said disdainfully.

"You’re the one who’s unpleasant! Our new mom is a thousand times better than you. We’ve already abandoned you! My brother and I have left you behind." Lu Chen, unsparing, erupted at that moment, pointing at Song Hong and making a cold snort.

"Let’s go!" Fu Xiaoxiao saw Song Hong’s gloomy face, inwardly mocking that she deserved it.

"Bleh~" Lu Chen turned back to stick his tongue out at Song Hong, then held Fu Xiaoxiao’s other hand, heading to the village entrance with Chen Xiu following behind.

"Your brother is engaged, and the bride price was only eighty-eight; the wedding is next month." As Lu Feng departed, he turned back to speak to Song Hong.

Seemingly meant for Song Hong to hear, actually informing the Zhang Family.

The supposed four hundred was a lie; the Song Family had only used eighty-eight, which was already quite a bride price for their village.

Sure enough, hearing Lu Feng’s words, the Zhang Family’s expressions changed, their eyes calculating.

Song Hong was indifferent, yet delighted that her brother was already engaged. "That’s great."

"Let’s go! Hong, time for dinner at home! You’ve worked hard today, I’ll cook some good dishes for you later. You haven’t had a proper meal at our place yet..." Mother Zhang kindly led Song Hong home, while Zhang Dajun and Father Zhang walked behind, quietly discussing something. The family returned home and closed the door.

Lu Feng turned back and saw this, a faint smile on his lips.

Fu Xiaoxiao walked ahead and looked at the village chief leading them out of the village, curiously asking, "Village chief, what else do you carry with you?"

The village chief hesitated for a moment, glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, picked up his pipe, and tapped the ash off his foot. "Everything necessary."

"Did you guess what we came for from the beginning?" Chen Xiu was also curious; the village chief had stood under the tree with her earlier, watching Fu Xiaoxiao chastise Song Hong, shaking his head.

"Hearing you’re looking for the Zhang Family, it’s easy to guess!" The village chief glanced at Lu Lin and Lu Chen before averting his eyes. "What’s there to do in the village anyway? It’s all about disputes like these between families. Used to it."

Fu Xiaoxiao nodded admiringly.

"What sort of people the Song family is, the fact that the Zhang Family married a Song widow, in these few surrounding villages, anyone can easily find out." The village chief looked at Fu Xiaoxiao. "You seem a kind person."

"Can that be seen so easily?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at herself, wondering how she was so easily discernible. Grandpa Bai had said so, now the village chief, meeting for the first time, said the same?

"Eyes can’t lie." The village chief lit his pipe, took a puff, and exhaled a stream of white smoke.

The two children were clean, clearly well cared for, and a man can’t do delicate tasks—it had to be a woman.

Lu Feng was clearly a soldier; caring for children couldn’t be done so finely, only Fu Xiaoxiao by his side could do this. Besides, the two children proactively held Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand—what wasn’t clear about their relationship?

It was apparent from when they entered the village.

"Alright, your curiosity is satisfied. You all should hurry along now!" The village chief glimpsed Lu Feng’s figure with the corner of his eye, then turned around and headed towards the fields, warmly greeted by the villagers upon his return.

The village chief nodded calmly, evidence of his esteemed status among the villagers.

Lu Feng came over, taking the village chief’s place and leading Fu Xiaoxiao and the others out towards the village entrance.

Back in the car, Lu Feng smoothly reversed, turning the car as it slowly drove out of the village.

"All done, now let’s head to the market!" Fu Xiaoxiao exclaimed happily.

"It’s so late already, is the market still open?" Lu Chen looked at the sky; it was nearly noon, and the market should be closing soon.

Fu Xiaoxiao paused, unfamiliar, and glanced at Lu Feng.

"It won’t close; this is the last market before winter, and it lasts three days." Lu Feng explained.

"Sorry, Sister Chen Xiu, for keeping you waiting so long." Fu Xiaoxiao apologized to Chen Xiu.

"I’m here to enjoy myself today, not in a hurry at all, and even if you come back later, it’s fine." Chen Xiu said cheerfully, in excellent spirits today, exploring the sights, watching a play, and mainly being free of the two kids—truly delightful.
