Chapter 119: Chapter 119: The Divorce Is Settled

"Not everyone is like that..." Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng, wanting to comfort him. Lu Feng looked up and gave her a relieved smile.

"Having you all now is enough for me." Lu Feng’s eyes reflected her face. He never knew what family truly meant. Even with Lu Lin and Lu Chen, it felt like merely having temporary companions through life. It wasn’t until Fu Xiaoxiao arrived that this home finally had some warmth and coziness.

"I’ve outgrown the need for parents. Rediscovering family now doesn’t hold much significance." Lu Feng lowered his gaze to the burning flames. It could be a blessing, but what if it’s a curse?

Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback, finding Lu Feng’s concerns not without merit.

Good family is a blessing, but if they have ulterior motives, it might be better not to have them at all.

"As long as we live our lives well, that’s the most important thing." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled, as Lu Feng had already made things so clear she didn’t dwell on the matter further.

"So when are you going to accept me?" Lu Feng quickly seized the opportunity, eagerly pressing the point.

Fu Xiaoxiao gave him a playful glare and ignored him.

As time passed, the large pork bone in the pot slowly turned the broth milky white. The aroma of the broth wafted out, drawing a little wolf cub to the kitchen, affectionately nuzzling Fu Xiaoxiao.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, crouching down to scoop up the little wolf cub. "Anyone who doesn’t know might think you’re a dog. How come you’re starting to smell more and more like a dog?"

If not for its drooping tail, she would have thought this little one was really turning into a dog.

"Awoo!" The little wolf cub wagged its tail slightly, as if declaring four words across its entire body.

——Wants a bone.

"Your leg has improved a lot. In a few more days, you’ll be ready to go back." Lu Feng glanced at the little wolf cub; if they kept it any longer, it might really become a dog.

"Do we have to send it back?" Fu Xiaoxiao was startled and looked back at Lu Chen and Lu Lin.

The two kids were a bit surprised upon hearing that Lu Feng wanted to send the cub back to Mountain Forest.

"Dad, its mom doesn’t want it anymore..."

"Can’t we keep it?"

Lu Chen and Lu Lin asked reluctantly.

"Wang Lu has already found the mother wolf’s tracks. It has been lingering near that trap and hasn’t left," Lu Feng said seriously to the two children.

In other words, the mother wolf hadn’t abandoned the cub.

Upon hearing that the mother wolf was still nearby, Lu Lin and Lu Chen patted the little wolf cub’s head. "Then you should get better soon. Once you’re healed, you can reunite with your mom."

Seeing them willing to let it go back despite their reluctance, Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Feng smiled.

After the soup was ready, Fu Xiaoxiao cooked noodles. The same noodles, when made with the bone broth, became a hundred times more delicious.

The rich aroma made the noodles even more flavorful after soaking in it.

No one spoke, and the courtyard was filled only with the sound of slurping noodles. Even the little wolf cub was silent.

After the meal, Fu Xiaoxiao taught Lu Lin to memorize the multiplication table. Lu Chen found it interesting and recited along.

The rhythmic multiplication table felt like a new toy for the kids, not at all tedious, and the more they recited, the more engrossed they became.

After reciting it a few times, even Lu Chen had memorized more than half.

Fu Xiaoxiao sat in the courtyard, taking out the pieces of cloth she bought. The scraps were all off-cuts, in various shapes, and Fu Xiaoxiao planned to make a few hacky sacks with them. She also intended to use some small pieces to sew animal patterns onto the kids’ clothes.

Meanwhile, Lu Feng helped Fu Xiaoxiao hang the marinated meat piece by piece under the eaves.

Suddenly, there was a loud crash from next door. Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Feng exchanged glances, put down what they were doing, and walked to the edge of the yard.

"You’ve really got some nerve, talking about divorce all the time. Do I give you too much face? I asked you to make a meal, and you give me this? As long as we’re married, I’m still your man, so stop giving me attitude. I won’t agree to a divorce, don’t even think about it! Do you even look at yourself? Who would want you apart from me? Look at Mr. Lu’s wife next door and look at yourself; don’t you have a clue? She can say those things because she’s pretty. If she looked like you, would she dare say those words?"

Li Si’s shouting carried over. Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes turned icy, and Lu Feng’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Li Si, I’m putting it out here today! Don’t try to bully me any longer. Regardless of what I look like, I don’t want to live with you anymore! I used to think about the kids, thinking I could just endure it and get by, but now I’ve realized I can’t endure it any longer!" Chen Xiu looked at the table full of food that Li Si had overturned, her face turning cold.

"Since you think my cooking is so bad, do it yourself! Since you think my laundry isn’t clean enough, wash it yourself! In short, I’m not serving you anymore." Chen Xiu looked indifferently at the man she found both familiar and foreign.

Before, she always thought it was better to avoid unnecessary troubles. If she could just put up with his temper, things would be peaceful eventually.

But what she endured only made him more aggressive, speaking more harshly and critically, nitpicking everything she did.

He belittled her to the lowest level, making her prepare meals for him feel like a privilege.

"Before I married you, my looks were not poor, and my family didn’t beg me to marry you. It was you, Li Si, who shamelessly begged my mother to let me marry you!" Chen Xiu didn’t spare his dignity, tearing apart his ridiculous pride.

"How dare you! If it weren’t for your looks, do you think I would have wanted to marry you? I’ve worked in your family’s fields for so many years, paid as much dowry as your family wanted, wasn’t that enough? Over the years, have I wronged you? What’s the harm in saying a few things to you? You can’t do anything right, is it really out of line for me to point it out? Your mindset is plainly problematic." Li Si glared at Chen Xiu, shifting all the blame onto her.

And he was only pointing out some ’minor issues.’

"So why can’t I point out what’s wrong with you? Is it just that you can criticize me, but I’m not allowed to say anything about you?" Chen Xiu sneered, finding his double standards ridiculous.

"I’m your husband; I’m your world." Li Si sneered, thinking a man should be a woman’s world, and she should follow his lead.

"The Qing Dynasty has long fallen, what world are you talking about!" Fu Xiaoxiao laughed out loud at that, laughing at his idea of being her world.

Fu Xiaoxiao’s voice angered Li Si. "This is our family business, so Mr. Lu had better control your woman."

"Did she name you? Why are you jumping in?" Lu Feng said blandly. If they didn’t name him, why was he getting so worked up and revealing himself?

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled; when it came to retorts, Lu Feng was unmatched.

"Li Si, there’s nothing more to say, I’m leaving this marriage for sure!" Chen Xiu couldn’t be bothered to argue further, taking her two kids and walking out.

Fu Xiaoxiao waved at Chen Xiu, who stormed into the yard with her children.

"Sister-in-law, don’t be mad. You probably haven’t eaten yet, right? I just made some bone broth, let me make you some noodles." Fu Xiaoxiao invited them to sit down, heading to the kitchen to prepare noodles for them.
