Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Home Is a Safe Harbor

Curiosity made them bolder and bolder, and they couldn’t help but stick close. Li Yanan rolled her eyes and gave her silly son two knocks on the head, making Chen Hao cry while clutching his head.

"Why don’t you hit her?" Chen Hao said discontentedly.

Obviously, Chen Xiu was right beside him, yet mom only knocked his head and not Chen Xiu’s.

"She’s already like that. If you knock her again and she gets dumber, will you take responsibility?" Li Yanan gave him a look, and though Chen Hao pursed his lips, he inwardly agreed with his mother.

His sister was indeed hopeless.

She’s already had two kids, gone through so much hardship, and only now does she know to tell the parents.

"It’s okay to tell you about this, but you better keep it tight. If you mess up your sister’s good thing, I’ll skin you." Li Yanan glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, and the two exchanged a knowing smile, motioning Chen Hao and Chen Xiu over.

"What’s it about?" Chen Hao and Chen Xiu were originally curious and quickly moved in front of their mother.

Li Yanan grabbed hold of their ears, and before they could cry out in pain, she began whispering.

Hearing their mother’s words, Chen Xiu froze for a moment and turned to look at Fu Xiaoxiao.

This was somewhat similar to what Fu Xiaoxiao had told her before, but it was different because it included the roles of mother and brother, showing that she was even more determined.

"Understood." Chen Hao’s eyes lit up; he had wanted to do this for a long time.

From the first time Li Si stepped into their house, he had remembered it.

"You keep it together too, got it?" Li Yanan repeatedly instructed Chen Xiu, needing to confirm with this daughter several times.

"Mom, I know." Chen Xiu carefully looked at her and responded.

Fu Xiaoxiao had mentioned this to her several times; she understood.

"Alright, I won’t be able to show up tomorrow, waiting for your good news." Fu Xiaoxiao accomplished her mission, smiled, and prepared to head home with her things.

"Little girl, whether this works out or not, you’ll always be our Chen family’s benefactor." Li Yanan looked at Fu Xiaoxiao; just for her unconditional help in advising her daughter, she was an enigma for the Chen family.

"Aunty, what are you saying! Sister Chen Xiu and I are like sisters, this little thing doesn’t warrant such formality." Fu Xiaoxiao blinked playfully and smiled.

"Since you say so, you won’t mind having an extra family, right?" Li Yanan hadn’t forgotten the envious yet forlorn look in Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes before; with an extra sister, she wouldn’t mind having another family, would she?

"Very willing." Fu Xiaoxiao was startled, and seeing the seriousness in Li Yanan’s eyes, she broke into a smile.

"Then from now on, you’re my little sister." Chen Xiu and Chen Hao said in unison.

"She’s my little sister!"

"She’s my sister!"

Chen Xiu and Chen Hao glared at each other, once again speaking in unison.

"I’m sorry for their silliness; maybe when I gave birth to them, I tried too hard and their brains got squeezed too much. Don’t mind them." Li Yanan personally sent Fu Xiaoxiao out, patting her hand.

"Your relationship is really nice." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled.

"We are one family. If we can’t form a tight bond and work together, what kind of family are we?" Li Yanan said seriously. If there was distrust among family, what kind of family was that?

She would absolutely not allow such things in her family.

"Yes." Fu Xiaoxiao nodded heavily. If the original host had grown up in such a family, with a mother like Li Yanan, she would surely be very happy.

When Fu Xiaoxiao got home, Lu Feng was helping Lu Lin with his homework. Upon seeing her return, Lu Feng immediately noticed her slightly reddened eyes, and his expression changed.

"What happened?" He approached and took Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand, worried she had been wronged. Lu Feng asked softly.

"It’s nothing, just got wind in my eyes." Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head but buried her head in Lu Feng’s chest.

Lu Feng gently embraced Fu Xiaoxiao, soothingly patting her back.

"...Sorry, I don’t know what came over me." Fu Xiaoxiao came to her senses and realized she was leaning against Lu Feng’s chest. Blushing, she pushed him away.

"Don’t apologize to me. I’m just glad you can show your true self in front of me, giving me a chance to comfort you." Lu Feng smiled as he tucked the stray hairs on her cheek behind her ear.

"Thank you." Fu Xiaoxiao’s face flushed red, she said thanks, and upon seeing Lu Lin and Lu Chen watching them, she fled back to her room.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen looked at Lu Feng.

"What are you looking at? Do your homework." Lu Feng, in a good mood, saw Lu Lin’s teasing expression and reached out to ruffle his hair vigorously.

"So old and still blushing." Lu Lin commented absentmindedly while doing homework.

Lu Feng’s earlobe turned red, and he glanced at Lu Lin.

That night, the thoughts in Fu Xiaoxiao’s mind were filled with the ease and comfort of the Chen family’s interactions. In contrast, the original host’s life in the Fu Family was filled with being the hardest worker and the most sensible daughter yet received no love. The original host wasn’t unaware of being marginalized; she thought it was because she hadn’t done well enough, so she tried her hardest to impress her mother.

She did most of the chores around the house: washing clothes, cooking, mopping, cleaning. Even when bullied by Fu Xiaocui, she endured the grievance.

Fu Xiaoxiao felt heartache, knowing that even attending school was because when neighbors asked why the second child was still at home while Xiao Jun and Xiao Cui went to school, Mr. and Mrs. Fu finally let the original host attend school.

They’d take Xiao Jun out to eat good food and Xiao Cui out to buy new hair accessories, yet never the original host.

The definition of family, for the original host living with the Fu Family, came with no affection. She was terrified of losing them even more.

She was humble to the dust.

In comparison, seeing the unconditional support and future considerations from Yan Nan had for Chen Xiu, Fu Xiaoxiao was deeply moved. Or rather, it was the original host’s emotions stirring.

Without comparison, there’s no harm, but with comparison, hurt is doubled.

"Xiaoxiao, are you asleep?" Fu Xiaoxiao lay in bed in a daze when suddenly a knock on the door brought her back to reality.

"Why are you here?" Fu Xiaoxiao got out of bed to open the door, curious as she saw Lu Feng standing at her door.

"Are you okay? Your mood seemed off this afternoon." Lu Feng looked at Fu Xiaoxiao and asked worriedly.

With the kids around in the afternoon, he hadn’t asked her.

Fu Xiaoxiao stepped aside to let Lu Feng in. Lu Feng followed her into the room, grabbed a chair, and sat across from her.

"Lu Feng, why do you like me?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng and asked directly.

Lu Feng was stunned, caught off guard by her direct question.

After thinking for a while, Lu Feng brushed aside all the thought-out ’answers’ and chose sincerity. "I don’t know either, maybe because of your initiative, or maybe your beauty, or maybe your kindness, or your unintentional gentleness towards Lu Lin and Lu Chen. I just know that your image in my mind is becoming clearer and clearer."
