Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Luring the Snake Out of Its Hole
"That’s not important." Wu Yingying waved her hand, signaling Wu Yuxuan not to worry about it for now.
Wu Yingying called over Wu Linlin. "Little Linlin, when Aunt Fang came last time, did she say anything to you?"
Wu Jianlin and Mrs. Wu turned to Wu Linlin, while Wu Yuxuan was taken aback. "She’s just a child; what could she remember..."
"I remember! Aunt Fang said... ’A child like you shouldn’t have been born.’ ’Why does everyone only care about you all when I should be the one receiving the most attention?’ ’Spawn of a wretch giving birth to wretched children, you’re all wretches.’" Wu Linlin’s words changed the expressions of everyone present.
Wu Yuxuan never imagined that the wonderful wife he swore to marry would say such venomous things to a three-year-old child.
"Did Aunt Fang really say that to you?" Wu Yuxuan asked seriously.
"Yes! Aunt Fang also said that Mom shouldn’t have given birth to me, that I always take what’s hers, and when her child is born, she’ll kick us out. Uncle, what does that mean?" Wu Linlin curiously looked at Wu Yuxuan.
"Bastard!" Wu Jianlin said with a gloomy face, not expecting Fang Zhenzhen to want to throw Wu Yingying and Wu Linlin out.
"Little Linlin, did she do anything else to you?" Wu Yingying asked, holding back her anger.
"Aunt Fang would hug me, sometimes pinch my face, sometimes hit my butt, and my butt would hurt." Wu Linlin pouted at Wu Yingying, holding her little bottom.
Furious, Wu Yuxuan clenched his fists and stormed out.
Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the Wu family’s ashen faces and sighed.
That Fang Zhenzhen, targeting a child who doesn’t understand anything.
"This can’t be let go just like that! We have to get to the bottom of this, and if she really did it, that woman can absolutely not be let in." Aunt Wu hugged Wu Linlin, feeling sorry for the child, wondering how anyone could hurt her.
"What if she doesn’t admit it?" Wu Yingying doubted that Fang Zhenzhen would confess so straightforwardly.
With her cunning, without evidence she’d surely claim innocence or demand we produce evidence.
"Linlin’s said it, how could it be fake?" Mrs. Wu said angrily.
"The child is still very young..." Wu Jianlin advised Mrs. Wu to calm down, regretting Wu Linlin being too young and children often changing stories.
It’s hard to use this as evidence.
"Then what do you propose?" Aunt Wu said angrily.
"This is easy, invite her over tomorrow and have a family meal." Fu Xiaoxiao suggested to Wu Yingying.
"You should personally call to invite her, say you’re feeling much better, and soon Uncle Wu will arrange work for you so you can start earning to support Little Linlin. Remember, don’t talk in a boastful tone, just say it like everyday conversation."
After Fu Xiaoxiao finished, Wu Yingying nodded. "Alright."
"Great tactic to lure her out." Wu Jianlin’s eyes lit up; that move was executed beautifully.
With Fang Zhenzhen’s nature, she surely can’t accept Wu Yingying’s words.
She’ll definitely find an opportunity to target Little Linlin.
"But what about Little Linlin? We can’t really let her be with her, right?" Mrs. Wu worriedly said, unwilling to let Little Linlin suffer.
"I’ll protect her." Lu Chen patted his chest to Mrs. Wu, indicating he would be Wu Linlin’s protector when the time comes.
"It’s all in your hands then." Wu Yingying tousled Lu Chen’s hair, turning to Fu Xiaoxiao. "Will you be available then? I’d like to invite you too."
"Will it be convenient? After all, it’s your family gathering, my presence might not be suitable." Fu Xiaoxiao pondered and asked.
"What family gathering! She might no longer be considered part of the Wu family." Mrs. Wu planned to cancel the engagement with Fang Zhenzhen directly.
Such a daughter-in-law was not something she dared to accept.
"Will Brother agree? His feelings for Fang Zhenzhen seem quite strong." Wu Yingying worried about Wu Yuxuan.
"I wanted to marry her because I believed in her kindness, but now that her kindness turns out to be a facade, why would I still want to marry her!" Wu Yuxuan said coldly as he walked back in, having pushed the door open.
"Hey! Brother Wu, your hand." Fu Xiaoxiao noticed Wu Yuxuan’s hand was stained with blood.
"Did you just go out and self-harm?" Wu Yingying looked at Wu Yuxuan, speechless. "With the strength you have to harm your hand, why not be a bit braver."
Fu Xiaoxiao opened her mouth to speak, but then closed it again.
This family is really...
Words are wielded like knives.
Clearly words of concern, yet spoken like blades.
"It’s your own stupidity!" Wu Yuxuan retorted unceremoniously.
"Who could be stupider than you!" Wu Yingying fired back.
Neither willing to yield, they began a full-on squabble.
Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to console them, though the arguments seemed fierce, there wasn’t a sense of gunpowder, but instead a strange intimacy??
"Don’t mind them, they’ve been arguing like this since childhood, this is the old Wu Yingying!" Mrs. Wu comforted Fu Xiaoxiao, who was dumbfounded, with a smile, patting her hand.
She was long used to it.
Though it appears they want to end each other, in reality, it’s just noise. When something truly happens to Wu Yingying, Wu Yuxuan would rush out to avenge her, then continue arguing on return.
It’s a peculiar sibling dynamic.
"Is that so? Their bond is indeed strong." Fu Xiaoxiao understood that their bond had been formed through years of such bickering.
That’s how they were before, and still are now.
This is their way of caring for each other.
Just that it’s a bit unconventional, not something most would emulate.
"Is Mommy fighting with Uncle?" Wu Linlin asked quietly while sitting in Mrs. Wu’s lap.
"Oh, no, they’re... um..." Fu Xiaoxiao was about to smooth things over but couldn’t figure out what to say.
"They’re just playfully arguing, Little Linlin, we’re good kids, we don’t emulate them." Lu Chen said seriously to Wu Linlin, stepping forward to cover her ears so she wouldn’t listen.
Wu Linlin obediently nodded.
Wu Yingying pulled Wu Yuxuan aside to tend to his wound, not missing a chance to taunt. "You’ve really developed some skills, learning to attack yourself now."
"Ow! Take it easy!" Wu Yuxuan protested with a pained face, glaring at her.
"Now you know it hurts, what were you doing earlier, choosing the dumbest way to hurt yourself." Wu Yingying didn’t ease her hard-handed approach, deliberately pressing on the wound.
"Wu Yingying, you’ll regret this!" Wu Yuxuan threatened.
"Ha, I’ll be waiting for you, loser." Wu Yingying mocked.
Fu Xiaoxiao saw them like this and felt at ease.
This was their old way of interacting. It was clear Wu Yuxuan was relaxing, thoroughly enjoying their banter.
She chose not to disturb them.
After arranging a time with them, Fu Xiaoxiao, along with Lu Lin and Lu Chen, took their leave, although the Wu family urged them to stay for a meal. Fu Xiaoxiao politely declined, citing Lu Feng as a reason.
"What’s your man’s name?" Wu Jianlin asked Fu Xiaoxiao earnestly.
If given the chance, he would do something in return for Fu Xiaoxiao’s kindness.
"Grandpa Wu, my dad’s name is Lu Feng." Before Fu Xiaoxiao could refuse, Lu Chen spoke up first.
"Lu Feng?" Wu Jianlin was startled; that name wasn’t unfamiliar to him.
